A retrospective cohort analysis of the relationship between thyroid hormone level and herpes simplex virus-1 activation

A number of physiological factors have been suggested to participate in the Herpes simplex Virus Type-1 (HsV-1) reactivation. Of particular interest is the effect of hormonal aberration on gene expression and activation. Thyroid hormone (TH) was shown to play a role in HsV-1 gene expression and replication in cell culture and animal models. We hypothesize that TH participates in the control of HsV latency and reactivation in humans by regulating viral gene expression and replication. Prior to implementing a full-scale population-based inquiry into this hypothesis, a pilot study using a pharmacy claims data base and a case-controlled, retrospective cohort preliminary investigation was conducted to develop further the hypothetical link between TH and HsV-1 reactivation. Using prescriptions for treating thyroid disorders and HsV-1 infections as proxies for biologic functions, we queried a prescription data base to construct two patient cohorts: Cohort 1 was comprised of patients receiving prescription drugs for thyroid disorders over a three-month period, and Cohort 2 was composed of patients not receiving thyroid medications during this period. HsV-1 medications were recorded for each cohort and the difference in the frequency of HsV-1 prescription drug utilization was examined for statistical significance. Using a 2 × 2 contingency table, a chi-square of 10.12 was calculated that was significant at p = 0.0015, confirming that a significant difference was found in HsV-1 utilization between these two cohorts, suggesting that patients who receive thyroid drugs have a greater chance of receiving antiviral drugs for HsV-1 infection/reactivation. since this pilot study has inherent limitations in the data set, this finding is descriptive, not explanatory, and further research involving more detailed patient records in a larger patient population will be implemented to explore the relationship more robustly.

The stability of the drug actarit was studied under different stress conditions like hydrolysis（acid,alkaline and neutral）,oxidation,photolysis and thermal degradation as recommended hy International Conference on Harmonization（ICH） *** was found to be unstable in acidic,basic and photolytic conditions and produced a common degradation product while oxidative stress condition produced three additional degradation *** was impassive to neutral hydrolysis,dry thermal and accelerated stability *** products were identified,isolated and characterized by different spectroscopic *** and the degradation products were synthesized by a new route using green *** chromatographic separation of the drug and its impurities was achieved in a phenomenex luna C18 column employing a step gradient elution by high performance liquid chromatography coupled to photodiode array and mass spectrometry detectors（HPLC-PDAMs）.A specilic and sensitive stability-indicating assay method for the simultaneous determination of the drug *** process related impurities and degradation products was developed and validated.

Radio Frequency Modelling for Future Wireless sensor Network on surface of the Moon

In order to study lunar regolith properties, wireless sensor network is planned to be deployed on surface of the Moon. This network can be deployed having few wireless sensor nodes capable of measuring soil properties and communicating results, as and when ready. Communication scenario on lunar surface is quite different as compared to that on the Earth, as there is no atmosphere and also there are lots of craters as well as various terrain topologies. since the deployment of sensors on the Moon is a challenging and difficult task, it is advisable to predict the behaviour of communication channel on lunar surface. However, communication models like Irregular Terrain Model used for terrestrial communication networks are not directly applicable for Unattended Ground sensor type sensor networks and need modifications according to lunar surface conditions and lunar environment. Efforts have been put to devise a model of radio frequency environment on the Moon using basic equations governing various physical phenomena occurring during radio propagation. The model uses Digital Elevation Model of four sites of the Moon, measured by Terrain Mapping Camera on board Chandrayan-1, a recent Indian mission to the Moon. Results presented in this paper can provide understanding of percentage area coverage for given minimum received signal strength, potential sites for sensor deployment assuring wireless communication, decision whether a given sensor node can work and can provide suggestion for possible path of rover with cluster head to remain in contact with the nodes. Digital Elevation Model based results presented here can provide more insight in to the communication scenario on the Moon and can be very useful to mission planners.

Chordomas and Their Consideration in the Radiographic Differential of Extra-Axial Lesions of the Central Nervous

Due to the rare occurrence of chordomas extra-axially, these lesions have not earned a great deal of consideration in the clinical and radiographic differential diagnoses of extra-axial paraspinal lesions. We describe a case of a patient with a surgically resected extra-axial chordoma and review the radiologic characteristics of chordomas as an entity in the spectrum of extra-axial lesions. A 47-year-old man presented to our institution with four months of intermittent parethesias, pain, and subjective weakness in the left leg. MR imaging of the lumbar spine demonstrated a large heterogeneously- enhancing paraspinal lesion extending from the left L3-4 neural foramen into the psoas muscle. The patient underwent a CT-guided needle biopsy demonstrating features consistent with a chordoma. He then underwent a left retroperitoneal approach and en bloc resection of the lesion from the vertebral column. Pathology confirmed chordoma as the diagnosis. EACs are a rare but important consideration in the diagnosis of extra-axial lesions of the central nervous system.

Allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation with busulfan, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide conditioning therapy for relapsed/refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma

The optimal stem cell transplantation (sCT) conditioning therapy for relapsed/refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is not clearly defined. In a retrospective analysis, we examined 25 patients with “high risk” relapsed/refractory NHL who received busulfan, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide (Bu/Cy/VP16) conditioning with autologous or allogeneic sCT. The majority of patients had aggressive histology and 52% had primary refractory NHL. Furthermore, 48% of patients had chemotherapy-resistant disease at the time of sCT. Fifty-six percent of patients underwent allogeneic sCT, while 44% had autologous sCT. The median engraftment time for neutrophils and platelets was 13.5 and 14 days, respectively. The 100-day treatment-related mortality (TRM) was 16%, while the 2-year non-relapse mortality (NRM) rate was also 16%. At a median follow-up of 15 months, the estimated 2-year disease-free survival (DFs) rate was 64% (95% confidence interval (CI): 36%-82%) and the estimated 2-year overall survival (Os) was 69% (95% CI: 40%-86%). Furthermore, the 2-year disease-specific survival (Dss) rate was 73% (95% CI: 40%-90%). Using Cox proportional hazard modeling, the International Prognostic Index at time of relapse predicted DFs and Os. Altogether, Bu/Cy/VP16 was associated with early TRM;however, late toxicities (including NRM) were uncommon resulting in relatively good survival rates in a high-risk relapsed/refractory NHL population.

Here we report first ever study on acoustical evaluation of Kanheri Caves located in sanjay Gandhi National Park,Mumbai(Maharashtra,India).These caves are dated to a period between 2nd century BCE to 7th century *** this study we used an ambisonic recorder to capture Impulse Response,which carries acoustic signature of the *** of total 109 caves 41 were surveyed in available *** of those reverberant environment was noted in 12 *** were made only in 3 caves(Cave Nos.1,3,11)which are *** the beginning we carried out an FFT *** then studied room acoustic parameters like Reverberation Time,Early Decay Time,Clarity,Definition,etc.,based on the measurement of Impulse *** No.3 have high value of reverberation time,compared to *** it also have lower clarity compared to *** is properties needs to be compared with similar structures(chaityas)in Maharashtra(at Ajanta,Ellora,Nashik,Junnar,etc.)and elsewhere in *** is worthwhile to carry out further research in Cave No.3 with more sophisticated instruments as well as 3D *** the experiment was performed with receiver at only one position,we also suggest to carry out experiment with receiver at multiple positions and then comparing them.
