Mg-doped Fe_(2)O_(3)nanoparticles(M-FNPs)are successfully prepared first time by facile green-aided(almond gum)combustion *** structural analysis of synthesized nanoparticles was well analyzed by Powder X-ray Diffrac-tion(PXRD),Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM),Raman spec-troscopy and UV-Visible spectral *** showed a nanocrystalline nature and determined the average particle size to be 85 *** surface morphologies of the prepared nanocomposite was measured by SEM tech-nique reveals the porous and spongy like *** photodegradation activity on 20×10^(−6)of Fast Orange Red(FOR)organic model dye using M-FNPs(50 mg)under UV light irradiation was investigatedin ***-trochemical examination of the prepared material was conducted using graphite-M-FNP electrode paste in 0.1 M KCl solution,and its performance in redox reaction was determined to be very good via cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance ***,an extension to sensor studies revealed broad differences in redox positions for paracetamol sensors,at 0.64 V and 0.41 V,confirming highly chemical sensor activity in alkaline medium for 1∼5 mM concentrations.

Effect of Fuel to Oxidant Molar Ratio on Structural and DC Electrical Conductivity of ZnO Nanoparticles Prepared by Simple Solution Combustion Method

ZnO nanoparticles of different sizes were prepared by varying the molar ratio of glycine and zinc nitrate hexahydrate as fuel and oxidizer （0.1, 0.8, 1.11, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0） by simple solution combustion method. UV-Visible spectrophotometry studies show that, the band gap of the prepared ZnO nanoparticles increases with increasing fuel to oxidant （F/O） molar ratio up to 1.7 revealing the formation of ZnO nanoparticles. The decrease in band gap for the sample of F/O molar ratio 2.0 is due to an increase in particle size. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the prepared samples show the formation of single phase ZnO nanoparticles and the particle size decreases with increasing F/O molar ratio up to 1.7. Surface morphology of the prepared samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy and it was observed that, the porosity increases with increasing F/O molar ratio. DC electrical conductivity at room temperature and in the temperature range of 303-563 K was studied for all the samples and the results revealed that, the sample of F/O molar ratio 1.7 has low electrical conductivity at room temperature and high EAR （high temperature activation energy） compared to other samples.

Conducting polyaniline/ZnFe_(2)O_(4) nanocomposites are synthesized by using a simple and inexpensive one-step in-situ polymerization method in the presence of ZnFe2O4 *** structural,morphological and electrical properties of the samples are characterized by x-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectra and scanning electron *** results reveal the formation of polyaniline/ZnFe2O4 *** morphology of these samples is studied by scanning electron ***,the ac conductivity(σac)of these composites is investigated in the frequency range of 1 kHz–10 *** presence of polarons and bipolarons are responsible for the frequency dependence of ac conductivity in these *** ac conductivity is found to be constant up to 1MHz and thereafter it increases *** ac conductivity of 0.695 S・cm^(−1) at room temperature is observed as the maxima for the polyaniline with 40wt%of the ZnFe2O4 nanocomposite.

Study the Frequency Dependence of Dielectric Properties of Gamma Irradiated PVA<sub>(1-x)</sub>PS<sub>x</sub>Polymer Blends

PVA(1-x)PSx (x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.0) polymer blend films were prepared by simple solution cast method using mixer of dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and double distilled water (DDW) as a common solvent. Gamma irradiation studies have been carried out to investigate the potential for improvements in the electrical properties of pure and blend polymer film. The induced changes in the dielectric constant (εr), dielectric loss (tanδ) and AC conductivity (σac) properties for the unirradiated and irradiated films were studied, in the frequency range 50 Hz - 5 MHz at room temperature (27°C). Further, it was seen that the frequency dependent dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity were found to increase with increasing γ irradiation dose for all the PVA(1-x)PSx (x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.0) polymer blends. The maximum σac at 1 kHz frequency was observed to be 2.4421 × 10-6 s/m (at room temperature) for PVA film irradiated at 1.5 kGy.

The polyaniline(PANI)/CoFe_(2)O_(4)nanocomposites were prepared by an in situ polymerization of aniline in an aqueous *** composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectrum,thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and scanning electron micrograph(SEM).The AC conductivity and dielectric properties of these composites were investigated in the frequency range 1 kHz10 MHz at room *** AC conductivity was found to be constant up to 1 MHz and thereafter it increases steeply and it was observed maximum for the PANI with 60 wt%of CoFe_(2)O_(4)*** lower frequencies the values of dielectric constant is maximum for pure CoFe_(2)O_(4)nanoparticles.

Efficacy of Hypertonic Saline and Normal Saline in the Treatment of Chronic Sinusitis

Introduction: Chronic sinusitis affects all age groups and is a cause for significant morbidity. Recent realization that noninfectious inflammatory causes can predispose to infectious sinusitis has evoked renewed interest in developing and documenting efficacious ancillary therapies that could supplement antibiotic use. Hypertonic saline solution has been shown to increase mucociliary clearance and ciliary beat frequency. Objectives: A double blinded randomized comparative study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of hypertonic saline (3.5%) nasal drops and normal saline (0.9%) nasal drops, to assess the tolerance of hypertonic saline nasal drops and to know if hypertonic nasal drops improve the “quality of life” in patients with chronic sinusitis. Methods: Fifty patients diagnosed as chronic sinusitis in the age group of 18-45 years were randomized into two groups;Group A was treated with normal saline and Group B with 3.5% hypertonic saline for a period of 4 weeks. Pre and Post treatment x-rays of the paranasal sinuses (Water’s view) were graded and radiological scores were given accordingly. The symptoms were evaluated before and after treatment using visual analogue score. Patients were queried about tolerance to the nasal solution and scores were given. Conclusion: Hypertonic saline nasal solution is more efficacious than normal saline solution in the treatment of patients with chronic sinusitis. Hypertonic saline nasal solution was well tolerated and it improved quality of life in these patients.

Boundary Layer Flow and Heat Transfer of a Dusty Fluid over a Stretching Vertical Surface

This paper presents the study of convective heat transfer characteristics of an incompressible dusty fluid past a vertical stretching sheet. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformation. The transformed equations are solved numerically by applying Runge Kutta Fehlberg fourth-fifth order method (RKF45 Method). Here obtained non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles has been carried out to study the effect of different physical parameters such as fluid-particle interaction parameter, Grashof number, Prandtl number, Eckert number. Comparison of the obtained numerical results is made with previously published results.

Effect of NaCl Doping on Growth, Characterization, Optical and Dielectric Properties of Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate (KHP) Crystals

Single crystals of sodium chloride doped Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate (KHP) were grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation method at room temperature. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out and lattice cell parameters estimated. FTIR studies confirm the presence of functional groups and slight distortion of groups due to doping of sodium metal. UV-visible and photoluminescence spectral studies revealed to understand the optical properties. The NLO property of grown crystals has been confirmed by Kurtz powder technique. Dielectric studies of samples showed that dielectric constant decreased slowly with increasing frequency and attains saturation at higher frequencies.

Nurse Mentor Training Program to Improve Quality of Maternal and Newborn Care at Primary Health Centres: Process Evaluation

Quality of maternal and newborn care could be improved if health care providers’ knowledge and competencies as well as system level constraints are addressed. However, due to several barriers staff nurses who form the frontline of health care workforce have limited access to enhancing their clinical knowledge and competencies. To address this gap, a new cadre of nurse mentors (NMs) for the public health system were trained by specialists from a teaching hospital in a special 5-week training course. This included 54 hours of theory and 110 hours of practical in clinical obstetric and newborn care, apart from mentoring, quality improvement and health systems issues. The nurse mentors were assigned to support staff nurses in the primary health care centres (PHCs) in eight northern Karnataka districts. Each NM covered 6-8 PHCs monthly for 2 - 3 days and thus a total of 385 PHCs were reached. They received support in the field through supportive supervision visits done by the specialists who had trained them, as well as by refresher training and clinical postings to the district hospitals. This paper presents impact of the training program on change in immediate and long term knowledge and competency scores of nurse mentors. Their baseline knowledge scores changed from 44.3 ± 12.7 to 72.1 ± 13.8 immediately after the training in obstetric and from 18.2 ± 19.1 to 66.4 ± 14.9 in newborn (p p p > 0.05). Skills score soon after training increased from 62.2 ± 13.2 to 69.6 ± 12.5 in obstetric after a 1 year period and from 52.6 ± 9.3;63.5 ± 14.4 in newborn (p < 0.001) content areas respectively. These findings have implications for those interested in improving quality of maternal and child care through nurse-dependent health delivery systems.
