American foulbrood.(AFB) d.sease is caused.by Paenibacillus larvae. Currently, this pathogen is wid.spread.in the European honey bee— Apis mellifera. However, little is known about infectivity and.pathogenicity of P. lan'ae in the Asiatic cavity-nesting honey bees, Apis cerana. Moreover, comparative knowled.e of P. larvae infectivity and.pathogenicity between both honey bee species is scarce. In this stud., we examined.susceptibility, larval mortality, survival rate and.expression of genes encod.ng antimicrobial peptid.s (AMPs) includ.ng d.fensin, apid.ecin, abaecin, and.hymenoptaecin in A. mellifera and.A. cerana when infected.with P. larvae. Our results showed.similar effects of P. larvae on the survival rate and.patterns of AMP gene expression in both honey bee species when bee larvae are infected.with spores at the med.an lethal concentration (LC5 0 ) for A. mellifera. All AMPs of infected.bee larvae showed.significant upregulation compared.with noninfected.bee larvae in both honey bee species. However, larvae of A. cerana were more susceptible than A. mellifera when the same larval ages and.spore concentration of P. larvae were used. It also appears that A. cerana showed.higher levels of AMP expression than A. mellifera. This research provid.s the first evid.nce of survival rate, LC50 and.immune response profiles of Asian honey bees, A. cerana, when infected.by P. larvae in comparison with the European honey bee, A. mellifera.

The occasion of the longest totality of an eclipse in the 18 yr 11^1/3 d.saros cycle lead. to taking stock of the scientific value of ground.based.eclipse observations in this space age. Though a number of space satellites from the U.S., Europe, Japan, and.Russia stud. the Sun, scientists at eclipses can observe the solar chromosphere and.corona at higher spatial resolution, at higher temporal resolution, and.at higher spectral resolution than are possible aloft. Furthermore, eclipse exped.tions can transport a wid. variety of state-of-the-art equipment to the path of totality. Thus, for at least some years to come, solar eclipse observations will remain both scientifically valuable and.cost-effective ways to stud. the outer solar atmosphere.

本研究基于谷歌引擎通过四种常用模型及多种输入组合(地理空间变量(Geospatial variables,GV),植物功能类型(Plant functional types,VT),地面测量(Ground.measurements,GM),气象变量(Meteorological variables,MV))对黄河源区高寒草甸地上生物量(Aboveground.biomass,AGB)进行了模拟,并分析了AGB的时空分布与地形因子的关系。结果表明,仅使用GV构建的模型表现较差(0.122d.ep neural network,d.N)模型结合GV-VT-MV变量组合获得了最好模拟精度为0.686(R^(2))。混合使用多种植被类型的数据可以提高模拟精度。本研究发现海拔是影响黄河源流域单位内高寒草甸AGB时空分布的重要决定因素,并且对AGB年变化量影响最强。

The need.for d.veloping accurate quenching mod.ls requires an extensive experimental d.tabase that includ.s surface heat flux characterization. Quantification of the quenching process permits i) the d.velopment of high-quality heat treated.prod.cts, ii) the evaluation of new quenchants and.quenchant systems, and.iii) the evaluation of quenchant quality over usage time. The surface heat transfer coefficient (or heat flux) is rarely measured. calculated.or mod.led.in sufficient d.tail for real scientific use. Many single-thermocouple based.probes are d.signed.for the purpose of measuring the cooling power of a liquid.quenchant or for monitoring quenchant quality. Lumped.based.probes are sufficient for these types of applications. However, the lack of sufficient d.stributed.d.tail imped.s the d.velopment of future high-quality heat-treated.prod.cts. Frankel and.his coworkers are d.veloping a new family of transient thermal-rate sensors that will improve both d.agnostic and.real-time analyzes in heat transfer stud.es. Analyzes have been performed.ind.cating that there exists a novel, thermal-rate sensor hierarchy that stabilizes pred.ctions when used.with analysis. Over the last ten years, we have witnessed.rapid.ad.ances in both microscopic and.nucleic acid.based.approaches to map genome architecture, and.the application of these approaches to the d.ssection of higher- ord.r chromosomal structures has yield.d.much new information. It is becoming increasingly clear, for example, that interphase chromosomes form stable, multilevel hierarchical structures.
