Pareto optimization of WEdM process parameters for machining a NiTi shape memory alloy using a combined approach of RSM and heat transfer search algorithm

Machining of shape memory alloys(SMAs)without losing the shape memory effect could immensely extend their ***,the wire electric discharge machining process was used to machine NiTi—a shape memory *** experimental methodology was designed using a Box-Behnken design approach of the response surface *** effects of input variables including pulse on time,pulse off time,and current were investigated on the material removal rate,surface roughness,and *** tests were performed to check the robustness of the generated empirical *** of the process parameters was performed using a newly formulated,highly efficient heat transfer search *** tests were conducted and extended for analyzing the retention of the shape memory effect of the machined surface by differential scanning *** addition,2d and 3d Pareto curves were generated that indicated the trade-offs between the selected output variables during the simultaneous output variables using the multi-objective heat transfer search *** optimization route yielded encouraging *** objective optimization yielded a maximum material removal rate of 1.49 mm^(3)/s,maximum microhardness 462.52 HVN,and minimum surface roughness 0.11μ*** Pareto curves showed conflicting effects during the wire electric discharge machining of the shape memory alloy and presented a set of optimal non-dominant *** shape memory alloy machined using the optimized process parameters even indicated a shape memory effect similar to that of the starting base material.

In the present work, we propose to numerically study a combined turbulent wall and offset jet flow(this combination will be denoted WOJ). Several turbulence models were tested in this study: the standard k-w, SST k-w, standard k-ε, RNG, and realizable k-ε model. A parametric study was performed to determine the effect of offset ratio H and the velocity ratio r on the longitudinal and transverse positions of the merge point(MP), the combined point(CP), the upper vortex center(UVC) and the lower vortex center(LVC). Correlations that predict the position of these characteristic points of the WOJ flow as a function of H and r have been provided. Results show that any increase in the velocity ratio causes a displacement of the MP, CP, UVC and LVC further upstream along the longitudinal direction. Concerning the transverse positions, the increase of velocity ratio results in a deviation of the merge point(MP) and the lower vortex center(LVC) toward the strong jet(LWJ) whereas the transverse position of combined point(CP) and the upper vortex center(UVC) is almost independent of the velocity ratio.

SARS-CoV-2 is an emerging viral pathogen and a major global public health challenge since december of 2019, with limited effective treatments throughout the *** part of the innate immune response to viral infection, type Ⅰ interferons(IFN-Ⅰ) trigger a signaling cascade that culminates in the activation of hundreds of genes, known as interferon stimulated genes(ISGs), that collectively foster an antiviral *** report here the identification of a group of type Ⅰ interferon suppressed genes,including fatty acid synthase(FASN), which are involved in lipid *** of FASN or the addition of its downstream product, palmitate, increased viral infection while knockout or knockdown of FASN reduced *** importantly, pharmacological inhibitors of FASN effectively blocked infections with a broad range of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and its variants of ***, our studies not only suggest that downregulation of metabolic genes may present an antiviral strategy by type Ⅰ interferon, but they also introduce the potential for FASN inhibitors to have a therapeutic application in combating emerging infectious diseases such as COVId-19.

Although antivirals are important tools to control severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection,effective vaccines are essential to control the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVId-19)***-derived virus-like particle(VLP)vaccine candidates have previously demonstrated immunogenicity and efficacy against ***,we report the immunogenicity and protection induced in rhesus macaques by intramuscular injections of a VLP bearing a SARS-CoV-2 spike protein(CoVLP)vaccine candidate formulated with or without Adjuvant System 03(AS03)or cytidine-phospho-guanosine(CpG)*** a single dose of the unadjuvanted CoVLP vaccine candidate stimulated humoral and cell-mediated immune responses,booster immunization(at 28 days after priming)and adjuvant administration significantly improved both responses,with higher immunogenicity and protection provided by the AS03-adjuvanted *** micrograms of CoVLP adjuvanted with AS03 induced a polyfunctional interleukin-2(IL-2)-driven response and IL-4 expression in Cd4 T *** were challenged by multiple routes(i.e.,intratracheal,intranasal,and ocular)with a total viral dose of 106 plaque-forming units of *** viral replication in nasal swabs and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)as well as fewer SARS-CoV-2-infected cells and immune cell infiltrates in the lungs concomitant with reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines and chemotactic factors in the BALF were observed in animals immunized with the CoVLP adjuvanted with *** clinical,pathologic,or virologic evidence of vaccineassociated enhanced disease was observed in vaccinated *** CoVLP adjuvanted with AS03 was therefore selected for vaccine development and clinical trials.

Two-dimensional(2-d)and three-dimensional(3-d)hybrid simulations are carried out for mode conversion from fast mode compressional wave to kinetic Alfvn waves(KAWs)at the inhomogeneous magnetopause *** cases in which the incident fast wave propagates in the xz plane,with the magnetopause normal along x and the background magnetic field pointing along z,the 2-d (xz)simulation shows that KAWs with large wave number kxρi～1 are generated near the Alfve′n resonance surface,whereρi is the ion Larmor *** nonlinear wave properties are manifest in the mode conversion *** of the driver frequency are *** a result of nonlinear wave interaction,the mode conversion region and its spectral width are *** the 3-d simulation,after this first stage of the mode conversion to KAWs with large kx,a subsequent generation of KAW modes of finite ky is observed in the later stage,through a nonlinear parametric decay *** the nonlinear cascade to ky can lead to massive transport at the magnetopause,the simulation results provide an effective transport mechanism at the plasma boundaries in space as well as laboratory plasmas.

The evolution of powder particle size,crystal structure,and surface chemistry was evaluated for micron scale NiO powders subjected to impact milling with commonly employed milling additives:methanol,Vertrel XF,and amorphous *** effect of the different comminution protocols on sintered body microstructure was evaluated for high temperature sintering in inert atmosphere(N_(2)).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that NiO powder surface chemistry is surprisingly sensitive to milling additive *** particular,the proportion of powder surface defect sites varied with additive,and methanol left an alcohol or alkoxy residue even after *** sintering to intermediate temperatures(1100℃),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)showed that slurry milled NiO powders exhibit hindered sintering *** effect was amplified for NiO milled with methanol,in which sub-500 nm grain sizes dominated even after sintering to 1100℃.Upon heating to high temperatures(1500℃),simultaneous differential scanning calorimetry/thermogravimetric analysis(dSC/TGA)showed that the powders containing carbon residues undergo carbothermal reduction,resulting in a melting transition between 1425 and 1454℃.Taken together,the results demonstrated that when processing metal oxide powders for advanced ceramics,the choice of milling additive is crucial as it exerts significant control over sintered body microstructure.
