Effect of the Inclusion of Chestnut in the Finishing Diet on Volatile Compounds of Dry-Cured Ham from Celta Pig Breed

The effect of the inclusion of chestnut in pigs ifnishing diet on volatile compounds of dry-cured Celta ham was studied. Twelve hams of each type （from three different pigs ifnishing diets：concentrate （CO）, mixed （MI） and chestnut （CH）） were used. Volatiles were extracted using a purge-and-trap method and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry （GC/MS）. Thirty-nine volatile compounds were identified in dry-cured Celta ham samples. Most abundant volatiles in ham samples were aldehydes, which represented respectively, 53% （CO）, 51% （MI） and 46% （CH） of the total volatile composition. With the exception of 2-butenal, 2-methyl, all aldehydes were affected by feeding system. On the other hand, hydrocarbons n-alkanes were the second major group in the volatile proifle of dry-cured Celta hams and represented 28.9, 35.7 and 32.4%of the total volatile composition for CO, MI and CH groups, respectively. Ham samples from chestnut group showed a higher content of alcohols and this result could be related with the inclusion of chestnut in the ifnishing diet of pigs. Principal component analysis showed a good separation among groups. The discriminant analysis selected eight variables （butanoic acid, hexanal, octanal, nonenal （E）, decenal （E）, tetradecane, decane trimethyl and pyridine 2-methyl） and calculated two discriminating functions to predict if chestnut has been included in the ifnishing diet. Thus, it was possible to discriminate between groups fed with ifnishing diets containing chestnuts in their composition （mixed and chestnut group）.

Tracking persons in dangerous situations as well as monitoring their physical condition, is often crucial for their safety. The systems commonly used for this purpose do not include individual monitoring or are too expensive and intrusive to be deployed in common situations. In this project, a mobile system based on energy-efficient wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and active radio frequency identification (RFID) has been developed to achieve ubiquitous positioning and monitoring of people in hazardous situations. The system designed can identify each individual, locate him/her, send data regarding their physical situation, and ascertain whether they are located in a confined space. A new algorithm called time division double beacon scheduling (TDDBS) has been implemented to increase operation time and data transmission rate of the nodes in the system. The results show that the use of this system allows us to find the location and state of a person, as well as to provide an analysis of the potential risks at each moment, in real time and in an energy-efficient way. In an emergency, the system also allows for quicker intervention, as it not only provides the location and causes of the event, but also informs about the physical condition of the individual at that moment.

AIM: To investigate the prevalence and penetrance of hMSH6 mutations in Spanish HNPCC families that was negative for mutation in hMLH1 or ***: We used PCR-based DGGE assay and direct Sequencing to screen for hMSH6 gene in 91 HNPCC ***: we have identified 10 families with germ-line mutations in the DNA sequence. These mutations included two intronic variation, three missense mutation, one nonsense mutation, and four silent mutations. Among the 10 germ-line mutations identified in the Spanish cohort,8 were novel, perhaps, suggesting different mutational spectra in the Spanish population. detailed pedigrees were constructed for the three families with a possible pathogenic hMSH6 mutation. The two silent mutations H388H and L758L, detected in a person affected of colorectal cancer at age 29, produce loss of the wild-type allele in the tumor sample. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that expression of MSH6 protein was lost only in the tumors from the carriers of V878A and Q263X ***: Altogether, our results indicate that disease-causing germ-line mutations of hMSH6 are very less frequent in Spanish HNPCC families.

It has recently been reported that coal tar pitch(CTP)can be utilised as raw material for the production of graphene nanocapsules(GNCs)because it is formed by a great quantity of aromatic organic compounds(which promote the rearrangement of double bonds by a process of polymerisation).Due to the importance of graphene and the search for a non-expensive methodology to produce it,this work used CTP to synthesise GNCs using an in situ activation technique at low temperatures and evaluating the effect of the working temperature on the formation of such *** other words,analysing the form of the particle as the temperature rises from 600 to 900℃.As result of the experimentation,powders were obtained and analysed by the techniques of X-Ray Diffraction,Raman Spectroscopy and Microscopy,employing Field Fmission Scanning Electron Microscopy by normal mode as well as by Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy and a High-Resolution Scanning Electron *** results show that working with temperatures between 800 and 850℃promotes the production of GNCs,considering that their size reduces as the working temperature rises.

Background： The radical hysterectomy （RH） surgical technique has improved along the years. It is used for the treatment of cervical cancer, endometrial cancer when affecting the cervix, and upper vaginal carcinomas. Our aim was to describe the historical evolution of the technique after the introduction of laparoseopy at our institution. Methods： We performed a retrospective review of medical records of patients who underwent RH, grouped in three periods according to the year of surgery： 1990-1999, 2000-2009 and 2010-2013. Patients＇ characteristics, pathologic details, intraoperative and postoperative complications were analyzed and comoared throughout the time periods. Results： A total of 102 cases of RH were performed at our center during the study period. Among all data collected, the presence of necrosis, age, number of lymph nodes, surgery route, operating time, hospital stay, blood loss and transfusion requirement were statistically significant different among groups. Conversion to laparotomy rate was 19% for the second period compared to the absence of cases in the last one. No significant differences （P=0.124） were observed in the adjuvant treatment received among the three different groups. At the time of the last contact the patients free of disease were 12 （85.7%）, 53 （91.3%） and 26 （86.6%） respectively （P=0.406）. Regarding the disease-free interval, we found significant better outcomes in the group of laparotomy compared to laparoscopy （P=0.015）.Conclusions： laparoscopic RH is an acceptable surgery with advantages like magnified vision of the operation＇s field, lower surgical complications, shorter hospital stay and earlier resumption to daily activities.
