Novel single-ion conducting polymer electrolytes with high toughness and high resistance against lithium dendrites

Solid-state polymer electrolytes are considered as an alternative to classic liquid electrolytes,particularly for application in highenergy lithium metal *** respect to common dual-ion conductors,single-ion conducting polymer electrolytes(SICPEs)are less affected by lithium dendrites growth and thus are particularly interesting for application in lithium metal *** this work,novel SIC-PEs are developed,based on an ionomer having poly(ethylene-alt-maleimide)backbone and lithium phenylsulfonyl(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide pendant moieties,further blended with poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)and poly(ethylene glycol)dimethyl ether(PEGDME).These SIC-PEs exhibit ionic conductivity around~7×10^(−6)S·cm^(−1) at 70℃,lithium transference number close to unity,and excellent mechanical properties,with fracture toughness over 30 J·cm^(−3).Additionally,the electrolytes show very high resistance against lithium dendrites growth,by cycling for more than 1200 h in Li°symmetric cells at a current density of 0.1 mA·cm^(−2).LiFePO4||Li°cells with these SIC-PEs were cycled at 70℃ and C/10,showing initial capacity of almost 160 mAh·g^(−1)and residual capacity of 45%after 100 *** work shows that single-ion conducting polymer electrolytes based on poly(ethylene-alt-maleimide)backbone are promising materials for application as electrolytes or catholytes in lithium metal polymer batteries.

Choosing the most appropriate rootstock(s)is a key decision for the profitability of vineyards;therefore,there must be a sufficient range of rootstocks in the market adapted to different environmental conditions and production ***,rootstock-breeding programs have been scarce in recent decades,and most of the rootstocks used today were bred a century ago,when the needs of the sector were very different from *** this work,we aimed to evaluate new rootstock candidates before their introduction in the *** agronomic evaluation was conducted on eight novel rootstock genotypes obtained from the first generation of the cross-pollination of 41 B Millardet et de Grasset(41 B)and 110 Richter(110 R)grafted with‘Syrah’and‘Tempranillo’and planted in a typical vineyard of the Ebro Valley in *** the four consecutive growing seasons(2016–2019),growth,yield and berry composition parameters at harvest were collected.A linear mixed-effects model was constructed,considering year and block as random *** factor analysis and hierarchical clustering on principal components were performed to establish clusters of genotypes with similar *** rootstock candidates showed a very wide performance range compared to their *** trial allowed us to identify two very promising candidates(RG8 and RG10),whose registration as commercial rootstocks is already in progress.

AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness of infliximab as a second-line therapy in Crohn's disease patients after adalimumab failure. METHODS:A historical cohort study in a community-based gastroenterology practice evaluated Crohn's disease patients treated with infliximab (induction plus maintenance) after adalimumab failure. Patients were identified using a large Spanish database (ENEIDA). RESULTS:We included 15 Crohn's disease patients who received infliximab after adalimumab failure. Five patients discontinued adalimumab due to loss of response, 3 due to adverse events and 7 due to partial response. After infliximab therapy was started, all patients who had interrupted adalimumab due to loss of efficacy regained response. All patients who discontinued adalimumab due to adverse events responded to infliximab and maintained this response; one of these patients had an uneventful course on infliximab, but 2 developed adverse events. None of the 7 patients who interrupted adalimumab due to partial response reached remission with infliximab. CONCLUSION:Switching from adalimumab to infliximab may be useful in patients who develop adverse effects or loss of response, however, the benefit of infliximab in primary nonresponders was not established.

Fast-track protocols in laparoscopic liver surgery:Applicability and correlation with difficulty scoring systems

BACKGROUND Few series have reported the utility of fast-track protocols(FTP)in minimally invasive liver *** To report the applicability of FTP in minimally invasive liver surgery and to correlate with difficulty *** The series of patients undergoing minimally invasive liver surgery from 2014 was ***,Southampton and Gayet’s scores were compared as predictors of FTP *** of FTP was considered within 24-h,48-h and *** models were performed to define discharge<24 h,<72 h,complications and *** From 160 cases,78 were candidates for FTP,of which 22(28.2%),19(24.4%)and 14(17.9%)were discharged in<24-h,48-h and 72-h,respectively(total=71.5%).Iwate,Southampton and Gayet’s scores achieved area under the receiver operating characteristic values for<24-h stay of 0.780,0.687 and 0.698,*** and specificity values for the best score(Iwate)were 87.7%and 66.7%,respectively(cutoff=5.5).In multivariate models,<72 h stay and complications revealed body mass index as a risk factor independent from difficulty *** The development of aggressive FTP is feasible and<24-h stay can be achieved even in moderate and advanced complexity *** scores,including body mass index value,may be useful to predict which cases may adhere to these protocols.

Driving factors of tree biomass and soil carbon pool in xerophytic forests of northeastern Argentina

Background The conversion of forests into agricultural lands can be a threat because the forests carbon stored could be a source of emissions. The capacity to improve the predictions on the consequences of land use change depends on the identification of factors that influence carbon pools. We investigated the key driving factors of tree biomass and soil carbon pools in xerophytic forests in northeastern Argentina. Based on analyses of forest structure variables and abiotic factors (topography and soil properties) from 18 mature forests, we evaluated carbon pools using uniand multivariate (redundancy analysis) methods. Results The total carbon pool was estimated at 102.4 ± 24.0 Mg ha−1. Soil organic carbon storage is the single largest carbon pool relative to tree biomass, representing 73.1% of total carbon. Tree canopy cover and basal area were positively correlated with biomass carbon pool (r = 0.77 and r = 0.73, p < 0.001, respectively), proving to be significant drivers of carbon storage in this compartment. Slope, soil clay content and cation-exchange capacity had a better explanation for the variability in soil carbon pools, and all showed significant positive correlations with soil carbon pools (r = 0.64, 0.60 and 0.50;p < 0.05, respectively). The vertisols showed a 27.8% higher soil carbon stock than alfisols. Conclusions The relevance of our study stems from a dearth of information on carbon pools and their drivers in xerophytic forests, and in particular, the importance of this ecosystems’ type for Argentina, because they cover 81.9% of native forest area. Basal area and tree canopy cover exert a strong effect on the carbon pool in tree biomass but not in the soil. The results suggests that there is a potentially major SOC accumulation in forests located in slightly sloping areas and soils with higher topsoil clay content, such as vertisols. This could provide an important reference for implementing forestry carbon sink projects.

Multicenter application of a nursing workload measurement scale in adult hospitalization units

Objectives:The study aimed to the multicenter application of a nursing workload measurement scale in the internal medicine and surgery adults hospitalization ***:The study design was a multicenter,observational,and descriptive study.A multicenter application of the MIDENF®nursing workload measurement scale was carried out,which consists of 21 items,and covers the four nursing functions(patient care items,teaching,manager,and researcher),in units of hospitalization of adults of internal medicine and surgery of four different *** item contains one or more of the nursing interventions of Nursing Interventions Classification(NIC)and has an assigned time,after comparing the real time it takes to perform each intervention with the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association(NANDA)standardized *** study was carried out during nine months of the year 2020,measuring two days each month in the three work shifts(morning,evening,and night)to all patients admitted on the days of measurement in the indicated ***:The descriptive and inferential analysis of 11,756 completed scales,5,695 in general surgery and 6,061 in internal medicine,showed a greater care load for the two units during the morning shift(227,034 min in general surgery,261,835 min in internal medicine),especially in the items of“self-care”,“medication”,“common invasive procedures”,“fluid therapy”,and“patient and family support”,while the managerial function was similar during the three work shifts in the two units studied,getting values between 57,348 and 62,*** the analysis by shift and unit,statistical significance was obtained both for the total workload and the four nursing functions(P<0.001).Conclusions:It is shown that the use of validated scales with the standardized language of nursing functions,adapted to the units,provides objective information to adjust the nursing staff to the real situation of care in any hospital and unit where it is applied,improving quality

The wild Solanum pimpinellifolium(SP)and the weedy *** ***(SLC)are largely unexploited genetic reservoirs easily accessible to breeders,as they are fully cross-compatible with cultivated tomato(*** ***).We performed a comprehensive morphological and genomic characterization of four wild SP and four weedy SLC accessions,selected to maximize the range of variation of both *** eight accessions are the founders of the first tomato interspecific multi-parent advanced generation inter-cross(MAGIC)*** morphoagronomic characterization was carried out with 39 descriptors to assess plant,inflorescence,fruit and agronomic traits,revealing the broad range of diversity *** of the morphological variation observed in SP was likely associated to the adaptation of the accessions to different environments,while in the case of SLC to both human activity and adaptation to the ***-genome resequencing of the eight accessions revealed over 12 million variants,ranging from 1.2 to 1.9 million variants in SLC and from 3.1 to 4.8 million in SP,being 46.3%of them(4,897,803)private *** genetic principal component analysis also confirmed the high diversity of SP and the complex evolutionary history of *** was also reflected in the analysis of the potential footprint of common ancestors or old introgressions identified within and between the two *** functional characterization of the variants revealed a significative enrichment of GO terms related to changes in cell walls that would have been negatively selected during domestication and *** comprehensive morphoagronomic and genetic characterization of these accessions will be of great relevance for the genetic analysis of the first interspecific MAGIC population of tomato and provides valuable knowledge and tools to the tomato community for genetic and genomic studies and for breeding purposes.
