Splanchnic-aortic inflammatory axis in experimental portal hypertension

Splanchnic and systemic low-grade inflammation has been proposed to be a consequence of long-term prehepatic portal *** experimental model causes minimal alternations in the liver,thus making a more selective study possible for the pathological changes characteristic of prehepatic portal ***-grade splanchnic inflammation after longterm triple partial portal vein ligation could be associated with liver steatosis and portal hypertensive intestinal *** fact,we have previously shown that prehepatic portal hypertension in the rat induces liver steatosis and changes in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism similar to those produced in chronic inflammatory conditions described in metabolic syndrome in *** and bacterial translocation in this experimental model suggest the existence of a portal hypertensive intestinal microbiome implicated in both the splanchnic and systemic alterations related to prehepatic portal *** the systemic impairments,aortopathy characterized by oxidative stress,increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines and profibrogenic mediators stand *** this experimental model of long-term triple portal vein ligated-rats,the abdominal aortic proinflammatory response could be attributed to oxidative ***,the increased aortic reduced-nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate[NAD(P)H]oxidase activity could be associated with reactive oxygen species production and promote aortic ***,oxidative stress mediated by NAD(P)H oxidase has been associated with risk factors for inflammation and *** splanchnic and systemic pathology that is produced in the long term after triple partial portal vein ligation in the rat reinforces the validity of this experimental model to study the chronic low-grade inflammatory response induced by prehepatic portal hypertension.

Wireless capsule endoscopy(CE) is a technology developed for the endoscopic exploration of the small bowel. The first capsule model was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001, and its first and essential indication was occult gastrointestinal(GI) bleeding. Over subsequent years, this technology has been refined to provide superior resolution, increased battery life, and capabilities to view different parts of the GI tract. Indeed, cases for which CE proved useful have increased significantly over the last few years, with new indications for the small bowel and technical improvements that have expanded its use to other parts of the GI tract, including the esophagus and colon. The main challenges in the development of CE are new devices with the ability to provide therapy, air inflation for a better vision of the small bowel, biopsy sampling systems attached to the capsule and the possibility to guide and move the capsule with an external motion control. In this article we review the current and new indications of CE, and the evolving technological changes shaping this technology, which has a promising potential in the coming future of gastroenterology.

Tautomeric forms of Thiosemicarbazones have been investigated by spectrometric methods, their chemical reactivity and theoretical calculations of the relative tautomers stabilities. The mass spectral fragmentation of thiosemicarbazones synthesized from acetophenones has been studied by CG/MS. The analysis of the corresponding spectra shows not only the regular fragmentation mechanisms but homolytic ruptures from even-electron species. 1H NMR spectra exhibit signals for the most intense open thioketo tautomeric structure, although when using TFA a ring structure is observed in the corresponding tautomeric equilibrium. density Functional Theory calculations (DFT) also provide evidence to support the experimental observations by GC-MS and 1H NMR. Methylation reactions give support to the occurrence of the thioenol tautomeric form which would be the second most abundant according to the density Functional Theoretical calculations.

The mass spectral fragmentation of thiosemicarbazones synthesized from acetophenones has been studied by CG/MS. These carbonyl compounds exhibit chromatographic peaks which are not observed in aliphatic analogues or those synthesized from aldehydes. The analysis of the corresponding spectra has allowed structural assignment to the dimerization of gas phase neutral fragments. Theoretical calculations (DFT level) also provide evidence to support the experimental observations.

AIM:To investigate the incidence of neoplasms in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)patients and the potential causative role of ***:We performed an observational descriptive study comparing the incidence of malignancies in IBD patients treated with thiopurines and patients not treated with these *** included 812 patients which were divided in two groups depending on whether they have received thiopurines or *** have studied basal characteristics of both groups(age when the disease was diagnosed,sex,type of IBD,etc.)and treatments received(Azathioprine,mercaptopurine,infliximab,adalimumab or other immunomodulators),as well as neoplasms *** analysis was performed with the student t test,χ 2 test or Wilcoxon exact test as appropriate.A logistic regression analysis was performed as multivariate *** significance was establish at P values of less than 0.05,and 95%CI were used for the odds ***:Among 812 patients included,429(52.83%)have received thiopurines:79.5% azathioprine,14% mercaptopurine and 6.5% both drugs.44.76% of patients treated with thiopurines and 46,48% of patients who did not receive this treatment were women(P > 0.05).The proportion of ulcerative colitis patients treated with thiopurines was 30.3% compare to 66.67% of patients not treated(P < 0.001).Mean azathioprine dose was 123.79 ± 36.5 mg/d(range:50-250 mg/d),mean usage time was 72.16 ± 55.7 mo(range:1-300 mo)and the accumulated dose along this time was 274.32 ± 233.5 g(1.5-1350 g).With respect to mercaptopurine,mean dose was 74.7 ± 23.9 mg/d(range:25-150 mg/d),mean usage time of 23.37 ± 27.6 mo(range:1-118 mo),and the accumulated dose along this time was 52.2 ± 63.5 g(range:1.5-243 g).Thiopurine S-methyltransferase activity was tested in 66% of patients treated with thiopurines,among which 98.2% had an intermediate or high *** the patients treated with thiopurines,27.27%(112 patients)and 11.66%(50 patients)received treatment

Chromitite bodies hosted in peridotites typical of suboceanic mantle(***)are found in the northern and central part of the Loma Caribe peridotite,in the Cordillera Central of the Dominican *** chromitites are massive pods of small size(less than a few meters across)and veins that intrude both dunite and ***,they are high-Cr chromitites[Cr#=Cr/(Cr+Al)atomic ratio=0.71-0.83]singularly enriched in TiO2(up to 1.25 wt.%),Fe2 O3(2.77-9.16 wt.%)as well as some trace elements(Ga,V,Co,Mn,and Zn)and PGE(up to 4548 ppb in whole-rock).This geochemical signature is unknown for chromitites hosted in oceanic upper mantle but akin to those chromites crystallized from mantle plume derived ***,the melt estimated to be in equilibrium with such chromite from the Loma Caribe chromitites is similar to basalts derived from different source regions of a heterogeneous Caribbean mantle *** mantle plume is responsible for the formation of the Caribbean Large Igneous Province(CLIP).Dolerite dykes with back-arc basin basalt(BABB)and enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt(E-MORB)affinities commonly intrude the Loma Caribe peridotite,and are interpreted as evidence of the impact that the Caribbean plume had in the off-axis magmatism of the back-arc basin,developed after the Caribbean island-arc extension in the Late *** propose a model in which chromitites were formed in the shallow portion of the back-arc mantle as a result of the metasomatic reaction between the supra-subduction zone(SSZ)peridotites and upwelling plume-related melts.

Hybrid Manufacturing combines the advantages of Additive Manufacturing (AM)and Subtractive Manufacturing on a single *** previous research has provided a good background of the manufacturing parameters,the analysis is often carried out separately and there is a lack of combined *** purpose of this research is to examine the influence of the main manufacturing parameters involved in AM and subtracfive processes using different ***,the study is focused on the Material Extrusion process concerning the layer height,fill angle and fill density;as well as two factors related to machining,including stepover and pass *** parameters that were examined include the dimension,hardness, flatness,weight and roughness.A mulfifactofial design of Experiments was proposed with a total of 64 ***,a statistical analysis was carried out to assess the influence of the different groups on the response ***,a decision table presented and facilitated the selection of parameters depending on the desired objectives,leading to a framework that was applied to a case study for *** decision guide could enable designers and engineers to select the best strategy for a specific application,leading to a more efficient approach for manufacturing.

The widespread availability of portable computing power and inexpensive digital cameras are opening up new possibilities for retailers in some markets. One example is in optical shops,where a number of systems exist that facilitate eyeglassess election. These systems are now more necessary as the market is saturated with an increasingly complex array of lenses,frames,coatings,tints,photochromic and polarizing treatments,etc. Research challenges encompass Computer Vision,Multimedia andHuman-Computer Interaction. Cost factors are also of importance for widespread product acceptance. This paper describes alow-cost system that allows the user to visualize different glasses models in live video. The user can also move the glasses toadjust its position on the face. The system,which runs at 9.5 frames/s on general-purpose hardware,has a homeostatic modulethat keeps image parameters controlled. This is achieved by using a camera with motorized zoom,iris,white balance,etc. Thisfeature can be specially useful in environments with changing illumination and shadows,like in an optical shop. The system alsoincludes a face and eye detection module and a glasses management module.
