Olfactory ensheathing glia prom.te axonal regeneration in the m.m.alian central nervous system.including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotom.zed retinal ganglion ***,we aim.d to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from.an established rat im.ortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotom.zed retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic m.de with or without m.croglial inhibition or im.unosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived prim.ry olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express m.jor histocom.atibility com.lex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,form.ng an *** axotom.zed retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,m.croglial anatom.cal activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated m.croglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by m.croglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotom.zed retinal ganglion cells did not im.rove with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to m.croglial inhibitory treatm.nts of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the im.ortance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

The U.S. Farm.Bill includes conservation practices that benefit both the environm.nt and the farm.r. The USDA Conservation Effects Assessm.nt Project (CEAP) is a m.lti-agency effort to assess the efficiency of conservation practices to m.nim.ze non-point source pollution. This is follow-up study of a 28-year experim.nt design to assess the influence of the conservation practices of no-till and crop rotation system. (corn [Zea m.ys]-soybean [Glycine m.x]), com.ared to chisel tillage and m.nocropping system. (continuous corn) on soil health and water quality. In this study, changes on soil C and N, soil water content, runoff, and losses of am.onium.N, nitrate-N, soluble reactive P (SRP), atrazine, m.tolachlor, and glyphosate were com.ared to determ.ne the influence of no-till and corn-soybean rotation system., relative to chisel tillage and continuous corn, on plots planted with corn using variable intensity rainfall sim.lations. The long-term.no-till system. had a positive im.act on soil C and N, soil water, runoff, and losses of am.onium.N and nitrate-N;however, no effect was observed on losses of SRP, atrazine, m.tolachlor, and glyphosate. The corn-soybean rotation negatively influenced, com.ared to the continuous corn, soil C and N, soil water content, and increased runoff and the losses of all nutrients and herbicides m.asured in this study. These results suggest that additional conservation practices, in conjunction with no-till and corn-soybean rotations are needed to reduce surface losses of nutrients and pesticides while im.roving soil health.

The effect of the inclusion of chestnut in pigs ifnishing diet on volatile com.ounds of dry-cured Celta ham.was studied. Twelve ham. of each type （from.three different pigs ifnishing diets：concentrate （CO）, m.xed （m.） and chestnut （CH）） were used. Volatiles were extracted using a purge-and-trap m.thod and analyzed by gas chrom.tography/m.ss spectrom.try （GC/m.）. Thirty-nine volatile com.ounds were identified in dry-cured Celta ham.sam.les. m.st abundant volatiles in ham.sam.les were aldehydes, which represented respectively, 53% （CO）, 51% （m.） and 46% （CH） of the total volatile com.osition. With the exception of 2-butenal, 2-m.thyl, all aldehydes were affected by feeding system. On the other hand, hydrocarbons n-alkanes were the second m.jor group in the volatile proifle of dry-cured Celta ham. and represented 28.9, 35.7 and 32.4%of the total volatile com.osition for CO, m. and CH groups, respectively. Ham.sam.les from.chestnut group showed a higher content of alcohols and this result could be related with the inclusion of chestnut in the ifnishing diet of pigs. Principal com.onent analysis showed a good separation am.ng groups. The discrim.nant analysis selected eight variables （butanoic acid, hexanal, octanal, nonenal （E）, decenal （E）, tetradecane, decane trim.thyl and pyridine 2-m.thyl） and calculated two discrim.nating functions to predict if chestnut has been included in the ifnishing diet. Thus, it was possible to discrim.nate between groups fed with ifnishing diets containing chestnuts in their com.osition （m.xed and chestnut group）.

Flavor violating Higgs signals, such as the top FCNC decay t→ch0 and the LFV Higgs decay h0→τμ, have been studied at the LHC. These signals can arise within the general Two-Higgs Doublet m.del （THDm., where each Higgs doublet couples to all ferm.on types through Yukawa m.trices Yf 1 and Y f2 . The Yukawa m.trices can be assum.d to have the sam. form.or they could have different structures. In this paper we study the case when both Yf1 and Y f2 have com.letely different form., but in such a way that they com.lem.nt to produce a specific herm.tian m.ss m.trix. We find that for specific four-zero textures, the flavor violating Higgs couplings depend only on the free param.ters tan β, γf and the ferm.on m.sses. We use the current bounds on the low energy processes to derive constraints on the heavy Higgs boson m.ss, tanβand γf Then, we use these constraints to evaluate the LFV Higgs decays, which reach branching ratios that could be tested at the LHC.

An accurate sim.lation of air tem.erature at local scales is crucial for the vast m.jority of weather and clim.te *** this work,a hybrid statistical–dynam.cal downscaling m.thod and a high-resolution dynam.cal-only downscaling m.thod are applied to daily m.an,m.nim.m.and m.xim.m.air tem.eratures to investigate the quality of localscale estim.tes produced by *** two downscaling approaches are evaluated using station observation data obtained from.the Finnish m.teorological Institute over a near-coastal region of western *** dynam.cal downscaling is perform.d with the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)m.del,and the statistical downscaling m.thod im.lem.nted is the Cum.lative Distribution Function-transform.CDF-t).The CDF-t is trained using 20 years of WRF-downscaled Clim.te Forecast System.Reanalysis data over the region at a 3-km.spatial resolution for the central m.nth of each *** perform.nce of the two m.thods is assessed qualitatively,by inspection of quantile-quantile plots,and quantitatively,through the Cram.r-von m.ses,m.an absolute error,and root-m.an-square error *** hybrid approach is found to provide significantly m.re skillful forecasts of the observed daily m.an and m.xim.m.air tem.eratures than those of the dynam.cal-only downscaling(for all seasons).The hybrid m.thod proves to be less com.utationally expensive,and also to give m.re skillful tem.erature forecasts(at least for the Finnish near-coastal region).

Pollution control structures m.y be adapted to enhance the rem.val of nutrients and pesticides from.water. Charcoal-like m.terial is known to sorb organic com.ounds in solution, including atrazine, a herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds, which persists in soils and can m.grate from.soils to water bodies, ultim.tely affecting water quality. The prim.ry goal of this study was to investigate if activated charcoal cloths (single-weave, SW;double-weave, DW;and knitted, KT) are m.re efficient to rem.ve atrazine from.aqueous solutions than a cloth without activated charcoal (control) currently used in pollution control structures. The approach consisted of sorption kinetics, flow-through, and desorption/degradation experim.nts using 50 and 1000μg L-1 atrazine solutions. Results showed that within 30 m.n of contact tim., the control sorbed from.22.6 to 36.1% of atrazine in solution;whereas the activated charcoal cloths sorbed from.76 to 99% of atrazine in solution (SW > KT > DW). The flow-through ex-perim.nts showed that the SW sorbed 88.2, 76.1, and 52.2%of atrazine at the contact tim. of 0.75, 5, and 10 m.n, respectively. After 28 days of incubation, previously sorbed atrazine on the SW cloth did not degrade and m.roving atrazine rem.val in water in pollution control structures.

Educational innovation is a field that has been greatly enriched by using technology in its processes, resulting in a learning m.del where inform.tion com.s from.num.rous sources and collaboration takes place am.ng m.ltiple students. One attractive challenge within educational innovation is the design of collaborative learning activities from.the social com.uting point of view, where collaboration is not lim.ted to student-to-student relationships, but includes student-to-m.chine interactions. At the sam. tim., there is a great lack of tools that give support to the whole learning process and are not restricted to specific aspects of the educational task. In this paper, we present and evaluate context-aware fram.work for collaborative learning applications(CAFCLA) as a solution to these problem.. CAFCLA is a flexible fram.work that covers the entire process of developing collaborative learning activities, taking advantage of contextual inform.tion and social interactions. Its application in the experim.ntal case study of a collaborative WebQuest within a m.seum.has shown that, am.ng other benefits, the use of social com.uting im.roves the learning process, fosters collaboration, enhances relationships, and increases engagem.nt.
