Hotspot of Adult Cuban Treefrog and Cane Toad Multi-organ Abnormality in Suburban South-west Florida

This study represents a continuation of the Florida hotspot of tadpole abnormality found in the Southwest Florida suburban roadside drainage ditches in 2012 to determine if the adult frogs and toads frequenting the study sites were anatomically abnormal.The gross examination of all organs included 397 adult anurans and 40 metamorphs representing five anuran species:Osteopilus septentrionalis(N=364),Rhinella marina(N=60),Lithobates sphenocephala(N=7),Anaxyrus terrestris(N=5)and Anaxyrus americanus(N=1).The gonads,liver,kidney and intestines were abnormal at a frequency of 87.4%.The few normal anurans(12.6%)were females and young male adults.We found a significant difference in organ abnormality type and f requency between sexes.Almost all f rog and toad males had testicular abnormality(92%)with only 6%with normal testes,whereas the female gonad abnormality was lower,at 41.6%.Hermaphroditism was found in both sexes at a frequency of 26.2%.The toads had a significantly higher frequency of hermaphroditism than the frogs.The toad hermaphroditism frequency was found to be 40%,whereas the frog hermaphroditism 23.3%.A hermaphrodite Cane toad male with a female phenotype coexisted with the normal male phenotype hermaphrodite.The fertility of 27 in situ pairs was assessed.The fertile testicular abnormal male and hermaphrodite pairs produced offspring with abnormal larval morphology.This information adds new evidence of the effect of chemicals on wild populations and the effect on non-target species which has always been underestimated.

大型民用飞机的机翼设计用于承受从大气阵风到湍流到着陆冲击的各种载荷,机翼是需要进一步研究的重要结构.改进机翼设计的主要方法之一是分析晃动对承载液体的柔性机翼状结构动力学的阻尼效应.这将通过开发实验装置来实现,该装置将有助于建立和再现涉及物理领域的数值模型.因此,本工作的目的是使用数值方法光滑粒子流体动力学(SPH)作为主要数值工具,分析晃动在降低飞机结构设计载荷方面的影响.本研究中的一个关键因素是对比例实验的需求,这是评估计算工具是否能够准确近似不同比例的注册测量值的必要步骤.为此,建立了一个垂直振动水槽的数值模型,该模型是一个完全耦合的流固耦合问题.该结构通过质量-弹簧-阻尼器系统建模,对于内部流体,使用δ-SPH方法.特别是,研究了两个开放性问题:第一个问题是,当储罐的初始加速度是标准重力值的十倍时,重力对阻尼和能量耗散现象的影响程度;第二种问题旨在确认,当根据量纲分析对问题参数进行缩放时,SPH方程正确地再现了缩放定律.

AIM: To analyze and compare five different variables over one year follow-up(1 wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo): anterior capsule(AC), and posterior capsule(PC) area densitometry values, AC and PC linear densitometry values, and AC opening area reduction ratio after femtosecond laserassisted cataract surgery. METHODS: This was a prospective comparative study. Seventy-one patients underwent femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery on single eye between June 2014 and December 2015. A 5.0 mm diameter laser assisted anterior capsulotomy was performed on all eyes. In every postsurgery evaluation, AC opacificaction(ACO) and PC opacification(PCO) density levels were provided by Oculus Pentacam~?HR using area and linear densitometry methods. Digital images were captured with a slit-lamp Topcon photographic camera and IMAGEnet~? 5 software. The AC opening area on the digital images was measured using the Sketchandcalc area calculator and converted to reduction ratio levels.RESULTS: Using Pearson correlation coefficient(PCC), we found no correlation(r=-0.091, P=0.46) in the twelfth month assessment between the evolution of ACO area densitometry values and PCO area densitometry values considered as independent variables. We found no correlation, using PCC(r=-0.096, P=0.43) between the evolution of ACO linear densitometry values and PCO linear densitometry values, in the twelfth month visit, working both as independent variables. AC linear densitometry levels and AC area densitometry levels continued to grow strongly from sixth to twelfth months. Analysis of the values of AC opening area reduction ratio(1 wk, 1, 3, 6, 12 mo) revealed statistically significant differences between the values of successive examinations but the magnitude of the change decreased. In the final period of monitoring between six and twelve months the magnitude of change was low.CONCLUSION: Our results show strong increases of Scheimpflug ACO densitometry values from the sixth to the twelfth month while capsulorhexis area reduction ratio levels displayed a c

Background:Trastuzumab emtansine is the current standard treatment for patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer whose disease progresses after treatment with a combination of anti-HER2 antibodies and a taxane.Methods:We conducted a phase 3,multicenter,open-label,randomized trial to compare the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab deruxtecan(a HER2 antibody-drug conjugate)with those of trastuzumab emtansine in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer previously treated with trastuzumab and a taxane.The primary end point was progression-free survival(as determined by blinded independent central review);secondary end points included overall survival,objective response,and safety.

The U.S. Farm Bill includes conservation practices that benefit both the environment and the farmer. The USDA Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP) is a multi-agency effort to assess the efficiency of conservation practices to minimize non-point source pollution. This is follow-up study of a 28-year experiment design to assess the influence of the conservation practices of no-till and crop rotation systems (corn [Zea mays]-soybean [Glycine max]), compared to chisel tillage and monocropping systems (continuous corn) on soil health and water quality. In this study, changes on soil C and N, soil water content, runoff, and losses of ammonium-N, nitrate-N, soluble reactive P (SRP), atrazine, metolachlor, and glyphosate were compared to determine the influence of no-till and corn-soybean rotation systems, relative to chisel tillage and continuous corn, on plots planted with corn using variable intensity rainfall simulations. The long-term no-till systems had a positive impact on soil C and N, soil water, runoff, and losses of ammonium-N and nitrate-N;however, no effect was observed on losses of SRP, atrazine, metolachlor, and glyphosate. The corn-soybean rotation negatively influenced, compared to the continuous corn, soil C and N, soil water content, and increased runoff and the losses of all nutrients and herbicides measured in this study. These results suggest that additional conservation practices, in conjunction with no-till and corn-soybean rotations are needed to reduce surface losses of nutrients and pesticides while improving soil health.

Quantum physics rules the dynamics of small objects as they interact over microscopic length scales.Nevertheless,quantum correlations involving macroscopic distances can be observed between entangled photons as well as in atomic gases and matter waves at low temperatures.The long-range nature of the electromagnetic coupling between charged particles and extended objects could also trigger quantum phenomena over large distances.Here,we reveal a manifestation of quantum mechanics that involves macroscopic distances and results in a nearly complete depletion of coherence associated with which-way free-electron interference produced by electron-radiation coupling in the presence of distant extended objects.This is a ubiquitous effect that we illustrate through a rigorous theoretical analysis of a two-path electron beam interacting with a semi-infinite metallic plate and find the inter-path coherence to vanish proportionally to the path separation at zero temperature and exponentially at finite temperature.The investigated regime of large distances originates in the coupling of the electron to radiative modes assisted by diffraction at material structures but without any involvement of material excitations.Besides the fundamental interest of this macroscopic quantum phenomenon,our results suggest an approach to measuring the vacuum temperature and nondestructively sensing the presence of distant objects.
