Li2SnO3 branched nano- and microstructures with intense and broadband white-light emission

Exploiting the synergy between microstructure, morphology and dimensions by suitable nanomaterial engineeri ng, can effectively upgrade the physical properties and material performances. Li2SnO3 elongated nano- and microstructures in form of belts, wires, rods and branched structures have been fabricated by a vapor-solid method at temperatures ranging from 700 to 900℃ using metallic Sn and Li2CO3 as precursors. The achievement of these new morphologies can face challenging applications for Li2SnO3, not only in the field of energy storage, but also as building blocks in optoelectronic devices. The micro? and nanostructures grown at 700 and 800℃ correspond to monoclinic Li2SnO3, while at 900℃ complex Li2S nO/SnO2 core-shell microstructures are grow n, as con firmed by X-ray diffractio n and Rama n spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscopy reveals structural disorder related to stacking faults in some of the branched structures, which is associated with the prese nee of the low-temperature phase of L12S nO3. The luminescent resp onse of these structures is domi nated by in tense emissi ons at 2, 2.5 and 3 eV, almost completely covering the whole range of the visible light spectrum. As a result, white-light emission is obtained without the need of phosphors or complex quantum well heterostructures. Enhanced functionality in applications such as in light-emitting devices could be exploited based on the high luminescenee intensity observed in some of the analysed Li2SnO3 structures.

DNA methylation plays important roles in many biological processes,such as silencing of transposable elements,imprinting and regulating gene expression. Many studies of DNA methylation have shown its essential roles in angiosperms(flowering plants). However,few studies have examined the roles and patterns of DNA methylation in gymnosperms. Here,we present the first genome-wide singlebase resolution methylation maps of Norway spruce(Picea abies) from both needles and culture tissues through whole genome bisulfite sequencing. Dense methylation was observed globally across the whole genome,which differed from other plants that only had increased methylation present in their pericentromeric regions. On average,DNA methylation levels of CG and CHG were much higher than most other model plants. Consistent with other plants,CHH methylation was relatively low and at least one copy of Rd DM pathway genes was found in Norway spruce. In comparison to needles,culture tissue showed lower CG and CHG methylation levels but higher CHH methylation,which is inconsistent with other regenerated tissue studies. Similar to other genic DNA methylation studies,global DNA methylation levels were also positively correlated with genome size in plants. Two rounds of GYPSY-type LTR expansions were identified in the history of Norway spruce. This could partly explain the large genome size of the gymnosperms,like Norway spruce,which differ from most of angiosperms in that they have not undergone recent whole genome duplication(WGD). Altogether,the secret of the large genome of Norway spruce could not be explained by reduced DNA methylation levels and reactivation of transposons or whole genome duplication,but it can be partly explained by ancient GYPSY expansions.

Color polymorphisms are widely studied to identify the mechanisms responsible for the origin and maintenance of phenotypic variability in *** of the mechanisms of balancing selection currently thought to explain the long-term persistence of polymorphisms are the evolution of alternative phenotypic optima through correlational selection on suites of traits including color and *** of these mechanisms can generate differences in offspring viability and fitness arising from different morph ***,we examined the effect of parental morph combination on fertilization success,embryonic viability,newborn quality,antipredator,and foraging behavior,as well as inter-annual survival by conducting controlled matings in a polymorphic lacertid Podarcis muralis,where color morphs are frequently assumed to reflect alternative phenotypic optima(e.g.,alternative reproductive strategies).Juveniles were kept in outdoor tubs for a year in order to study inter-annual growth,survival,and morph *** agreement with a previous genome-wide association analysis,morph frequencies in the year-old juveniles matched the frequencies expected if orange and yellow expressions depended on recessive homozygosity at 2 separate *** findings also agree with previous literature reporting higher reproductive output of heavy females and the higher overall viability of heavy newborn lizards,but we found no evidence for the existence of alternative breeding investment strategies in female morphs,or morphcombination effects on offspring viability and *** conclude that inter-morph breeding remains entirely viable and genetic incompatibilities are of little significance for the maintenance of discrete color morphs in *** from the Pyrenees.
