The development of highly efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction is imperative for promoting the large-scale application of electrochemical water ***,nitrogen/phosphorus co-doped carbon nanorods encapsulated Mo_(2)C nanoparticles(Mo_(2)C@PNc)have been prepared by pre-phosphating treatment in combination of the coordination with polydopamine and the subsequent *** phosphating temperature has a significant effect on the content of phosphorus within the resultant Mo_(2)C@PNC,and the optimal catalyst delivers superior HER activity with the low overpotential of 104 mV at a current density of 10 mAcm^(-2) and good stability for 8 h,which has been theoretically demonstrated to originate from the synergistic effect between P doping and Mo_(2)C induced electron redistribution of nitrogen-doped carbon layer.

The present study focuses on the isolation of bacterial pathogens from waste disposal sites,and examination of their efficiencies for degrading various *** bacterial isolates such as ***,Corynebacterium spp.,Micrococcus spp.,Azotobacter spp.,Pseudomonas spp.,Staphylococcus spp.,and Bacillus *** *** *** the highest percentage reduction in black plastic weight(47.46%),while Corynebacterium spp.,and *** achieved a maximum reduction of 45.76 and 46.42%for pink plastic *** *** Micrococcus *** notable reductions of 46.43%and 56.60%in white and Canteen Stores Department(CSD)biodegradable plastics,*** density(OD)measurements revealed that bacterial isolates achieved maximum OD values with CSD plastics,emphasizing their proficiency in plastic *** Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)confirmed the degradation process,with a decrease in the peak value from 2916 to 2914 cm^(-1) for pink plastic,signifying alkane,and alkene *** new peaks at 1398,1371,and 1361 cm^(-1) in the FTIR spectrum of CSD plastic indicated presence of *** Electron Microscopic(SEM)micrographs illustrated bacterial colonization,cracks,and spots on plastic surfaces,while Xray Diffraction(XRD)spectra showed peaks at 4.083,3.705,3.020,and 1.909,suggesting plastic *** conclusion,soil of waste disposal site harbored diverse microbial species,and have highlighted their effectiveness in mitigating environmental pollution by degrading hazardous plastic waste.

The Combination Effect of Daphne Extract and Imatinib on the Antiproliferative Activity of the K562 Cell Line

Background: Herbal medicine is well-known among the ancient medical sciences. Healing properties have been observed in some species of Daphne plant. The effect of Daphne plant extract on the K562 cell line has been previously studied, and Gleevec is a well-known and effective medicine for the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia. Material and Methods: In this study, the simultaneous effects of using herbal medicine and a target therapy medicine on the K562 cell line were investigated. The presence of some species of Daphne in Iran motivated us to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of Daphne mucronata on human leukemia cancer cells. The antiproliferative activity of the dichloromethane extract of Daphne mucronate (Thymelaeaceae), a new anticancer medicinal plant, was evaluated. Cell viability was quantitated by MTT assay. Apoptotic and necrotic changes in the cell membrane were examined using flow cytometry. Changes in Bax and Bcl2 gene expression were investigated using real-time PCR. The MIC and the IC50 of the crude extract were calculated, and the MIC and IC50 of the Daphne extract in combination of imatinib were tested in the K-562 cell line. Results: K-562 cells responded to the extract treatments in a dose-dependent manner, and the increase in the expression of Bcl2 and decrease in the expression of the Bax gene intensified with increasing extract concentration. Flow cytometry revealed that most of the cells underwent necrosis. Conclusion: Daphne extract effectively decreased the viability of the K562 cell line. The necrotic effect of the Daphne extract was evaluated, and an increase in the gene expression of Bcl2 was observed in cells exposed to the Daphne extract. The combination of Daphne extracts with imatinib enhances the cytotoxic effect of imatinib.

Downstaging of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma followed by liver transplantation using immune checkpoint inhibitors:Where do we stand?

Liver transplantation(LT)in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and chronic liver disease(CLD)is limited by factors such as tumor size,number,portal venous or hepatic venous invasion and extrahepatic *** previously established criteria,such as Milan or UCSF,have been relaxed globally to accommodate more potential recipients with comparable 5-year outcomes,there is still a subset of the population that has advanced HCC with or without portal vein tumor thrombosis without detectable extrahepatic spread who do not qualify or are unable to be downstaged by conventional methods and do not qualify for liver *** checkpoint inhibitors(ICI)such as atezolizumab,pembrolizumab,or nivolumab have given hope to this group of *** completed a comprehensive literature review using PubMed,Google Scholar,reference citation analysis,and *** search utilized keywords such as'liver transplant','HCC','hepatocellular carcinoma','immune checkpoint inhibitors','ICI','atezolizumab',and'nivolumab'.Several case reports have documented successful downstaging of HCC using the atezolizumab/bevacizumab combination prior to LT,with acceptable early outcomes comparable to other *** effects of ICI have also been reported during the perioperative *** such cases,a 1.5-month interval between ICI therapy and LT has been ***,the results of downstaging using combination immunotherapy were encouraging and *** reports suggested a potential ray of hope for patients with CLD and advanced HCC,especially those with multifocal HCC or branch portal venous tumor ***,prospective studies and further experience will reveal the optimal dosage,duration,and timing prior to LT and evaluate both short-and long-term outcomes in terms of rejection,infection,recurrence rates,and survival.

Cirrhosis and its complications:Evidence based treatment

Cirrhosis results from progressive fibrosis and is the final outcome of all chronic liver disease. It is among the ten leading causes of death in United States. Cirrhosis can result in portal hypertension and/or hepatic dysfunction. Both of these either alone or in combination can lead to many complications, including ascites, varices, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatopulmonary syndrome, and coagulation disorders. Cirrhosis and its complications not only impair quality of life but also decrease survival. Managing patients with cirrhosis can be a challenge and requires an organized and systematic approach. Increasing physicians’ knowledge about prevention and treatment of these potential complications is important to improve patient outcomes. A literature search of the published data was performed to provide a comprehensive review regarding the management of cirrhosis and its complications.

An Efficient Class of Estimators for the Finite Population Mean in Ranked Set Sampling

In this paper, we propose a class of estimators for estimating the finite population mean of the study variable under Ranked Set Sampling (RSS) when population mean of the auxiliary variable is known. The bias and Mean Squared Error (MSE) of the proposed class of estimators are obtained to first degree of approximation. It is identified that the proposed class of estimators is more efficient as compared to [1] estimator and several other estimators. A simulation study is carried out to judge the performances of the estimators.

Zika virus infections:an overview of current scenario

Zika virus(ZIKV) was discovered more than half a century ago,recently it has gained unprecedented attention by the global health *** 2007,only 14 cases of human ZIKV infections were reported around the globe,while during the current outbreak,estimated cases mounted to approximately 1.5 million in Brazil alone,the virus was disseminated to wider South-American territories and travel-associated ZIKV infections were reported in USA,Europe and recently in *** infections remain asymptomatic in approximately 80% of the individuals,and no anti-viral treatments were ***,neurological complications associated with the infections,such as infant microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome are major cause of the ***,based on small numbers of cases,existing evidence strongly supports an exclusive link of viral infection and observed neurological ***,much work remains to assign exact numbers of complications caused by *** its structural attributes ZIKV shows remarkable resemblance with dengue virus and West-Nile ***,genomes of different ZIKV strains have already been decoded;role of the viral components in infection process and particularly pathogenesis of the disease remain widely *** vulnerable areas,most viable strategy to ensure public health safety is vector control and enhanced public awareness about the transmission of the disease.

Tuna,known for high endurance cruising,have already inspired several underwater robots and swimming *** study uses a biomimetic robotic tuna to investigate how different caudal fin planform geometries affect the thrust production and flow structures during Body and/or Caudal Fin(BCF)*** robot was tethered to a circulating water tunnel,and swimming was simulated by moving water at a constant speed relative to the stationary *** differently shaped caudal fins were tested,one rectangular,one elliptical,and one ***,aspect ratio,and rigidity were kept constant between the three fins to ensure that the effect of caudal fin shape could be *** fins were tested at three freestream velocities and four Strouhal numbers(St)so that comparisons between the fins could be made for a variety of swimming *** swept fin,which is the tested caudal fin most similar to one found on a fusiform swimmer,had the greatest thrust potential at high St,followed by the elliptical *** rectangular fin generally produced the least *** was shown that in addition to producing the most thrust,the swept fin also best stabilized the leading edge vortex that developed during the second half of the stroke.
