Low DHEAS levels are associated with depressive symptoms in elderly chinese men： results from a large study

This study investigated the association between depressive symptoms in elderly chinese men and the total testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone （DHEA）, DHEA sulphate （DHEAS）, oestradiol and sex hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） levels, and the free androgen index. cross-sectional data from 1147 community-dwelling elderly men, aged 65 and older, were used. Depressive symptoms were measured using the chinese Geriatric Depression Scale （GDS）. Total testosterone, free testosterone, DHEA, DHEAS, total oestradiol, the free androgen index and SHBG levels were assessed. DHEA was significantly associated with GDS score, and there was a trend towards DHEAS association, but this was not significant （p=-0. 110, P=0.015; p=-0.074, P=0.055）. However, no association was seen between depressive symptoms and total testosterone levels, free testosterone levels, oestradiol levels or SHBG levels. In terms of the presence of clinically relevant depressive symptoms, there were no statistically significant differences between patients in the lowest quartile of sex steroid hormone levels and those in other quartiles of sex steroid hormone levels. Similarly to Western studies, our study shows that DHEA and DHEAS levels are associated with depressive symptoms.

以原子力显微镜和朗格缪尔(LB)膜技术为主要手段,研究了带有氨基酸取代基的聚集诱导发光分子噻咯(silole,SI)在液/固界面和气/液界面的超分子组装行为。SI分子在甲苯/云母的液/固的界面、表面进行超分子组装成超螺旋纤维结构,在低表面压下分子在气/液界面则形成取向条带结构,在高表面压下,条带结构表面吸附的纳米纤维具有类似的取向,纤维彼此交错形成60°角,与云母基底的晶格结构一致。分子的氨基酸取代基诱导SI分子骨架产生螺旋构象,并在超分子组装结构中被进一步放大,分子间通过非共价键聚合成超分子螺旋纤维,而在气/液界面上分子间氢键被破坏,分子难以组装成超螺旋结构,表明多级超分子组装结构不仅与分子的化学结构相关,还受到表/界面因素的影响。

cytokines from the pig conceptus:roles in conceptus development in pigs

Establishment of pregnancy in pigs involves maintaining progesterone secretion from the corpora lutea in addition to regulating a sensitive interplay between the maternal immune system and attachment of the rapidly expanding trophoblast for nutrient absorption. The peri-implantation period of rapid trophoblastic elongation followed by attachment to the maternal uterine endometrium is critical for establishing a sufficient placental-uterine interface for subsequent nutrient transport for fetal survival to term, but is also marked by the required conceptus release of factors involved with stimulating uterine secretion of histotroph and modulation of the maternal immune system. Many endometrial genes activated by the conceptus secretory factors stimulate a tightly controlled proinflammatory response within the uterus. A number of the cytokines released by the elongating conceptuses stimulate inducible transcription factors such as nuclear factor kappa B （NFKB） potentially regulating the maternal uterine proinflammatory and immune response. This review will establish the current knowledge for the role of conceptus cytokine production and release in early development and establishment of pregnancy in the pig.

BAcKGROUND The incidence of carcinoma found within an internal hemorrhoid specimen is exceptionally ***,the presence of primary anal canal adenocarcinoma within internal hemorrhoids is even more *** describe a case in which anal canal adenocarcinoma was found within an internal hemorrhoidectomy specimen and perform a review of the current *** SUMMARy The patient was a 79-year-old male who presented with rectal bleeding and was found to have large thrombosed internal hemorrhoids during screening *** patient subsequently underwent a three-column *** analysis revealed one of three specimens containing a 1.5 cm moderate-to-poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of anal origin with superficial submucosal *** three-month follow up,he was taken to the operating theatre for biopsy and re-excision of his non-healing wound,which showed no *** wound has since healed and he was cancer free at ten-month follow *** When faced with primary anal canal adenocarcinoma an interdisciplinary approach to treatment should be *** pathological analysis of hemorrhoidectomy specimens may be beneficial due to the severity of anal canal carcinomas if left undiagnosed and untreated in a timely manner.

Adjuvant chemotherapy for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: approaching clinical practice consensus?

Finite Element Analysis of Femoral Strains in Older Adults During Stair Ascent and Descent

Purpose Understanding the femur load environment during daily activity is necessary for the understanding of risk of femoral pain,pain related falls,and femoral fractures,which could help the design of osteogenic exercises or the preventa-tive methods for older *** Using the finite element femur analysis,this study was to estimate the femoral strains at 9 cross-sections along the long axis of femur for stair ascent and descent(n=17;age:50-65 years).Motion analysis and inverse dynamics were com-bined with musculoskeletal modelling and optimization,then were used as input to a 3-D femur model to estimate femoral *** at the hip contact force peaks were *** The compressive and tensile strains during stair descent were greater than ascent for all or most cross-sections,especially for the proximal cross-sections of the femur:stair ascent produced−324.0±103.8 to−483.7±191.0μεcompressive strains and descent produced−608.8±288.4 to 1016.0±444.1με;stair ascent produced 336.2±105.4 to 391.8±136.9μεtensile strains and descent produced 546.9±252.8 to 741.7±333.6με.conclusion Strains represent the material deformation effect on the bone due to the sum of all the bone external *** bone strains could help future studies analyze load conditions in a more comprehensive way for other physical activities,which predicts the risk of stress fractures and tests if alternative methods(gait type change)could reduce stress and strain effectively.

Novel cinobufagin Oxime Ether Derivatives as Potential Na＋/K＋-ATPase Inhibitors： Synthesis, Biological Screening and Molecular Docking

Some cinobufagin oxime ether derivatives as potential Na＋/K＋-ATPase inkibitors were synthesized by following the side chain of istaroxime. These compounds inhibit Na＋/K＋-ATPase in a dose-dependent manner. compound 3c with an oxyethylamine side chain that is the same as that of istaroxime showed the most potent inhibi- tion, which was stronger than compound 3a with only hydroxyoxime moiety at c3 and compound 3b with a methy-lated hydroxyoxime moiety. Molecular docking was used to explore the binding modes of the target compounds with Na＋/K＋-ATPase, which suggested that the longer ethyl amine group at c3 oxime moiety of compound 3c could make stronger interaction with Na＋/K＋-ATPase via intermolecular charge-charge and H-bond interaction as compared with other derivatives.
