Extrusion bioprinting is a popular method for fabricating tissue engineering scaffolds because of its potential to rapidly produce complex,bioactive or cell-laden ***,due to the relatively high viscosity required to maintain shape fidelity during printing,many extrusion-based inks lack the ability to achieve precise structures at scales lower than hundreds of *** this work,we present a novel poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAAm)-based ink and poloxamer support bath system that produces precise,multi-layered structures on the tens of micrometers *** support bath maintains the structure of the ink in a hydrated,heated environment ideal for cell culture,while the ink undergoes rapid thermogelation followed by a spontaneous covalent crosslinking *** the combination of the PNIPAAm-based ink and poloxamer bath,this system was able to produce hydrogel scaffolds with uniform fibers possessing diameters tunable from 80 to 200μm.A framework of relationships between several important printing factors involved in maintaining support and thermogelation was also *** a whole,this work demonstrates the ability to produce precise,acellular and cell-laden PNIPAAm-based scaffolds at high-resolution and contributes to the growing body of research surrounding the printability of extrusion-based bioinks with support baths.

Major depressive disorder is a debilitating disorder affecting millions of people each ***-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and inflammation are two prominent biologic risk factors in the pathogenesis of depression that have received considerable *** clinical and animal studies have highlighted associations between low levels of BDNF or high levels of inflammatory markers and the development of behavioral symptoms of ***,less is known about potential interaction between BDNF and inflammation,particularly within the central nervous *** evidence suggests that there is bidirectional regulation between these factors with important implications for the development of depressive symptoms and antidepressant *** levels of inflammatory mediators have been shown to reduce expression of BDNF,and BDNF may play an important negative regulatory role on inflammation within the *** this interaction more fully within the context of neuropsychiatric disease is important for both developing a fuller understanding of biological pathogenesis of depression and for identifying novel therapeutic *** we review these two prominent risk factors for depression with a particular focus on pathogenic implications of their interaction.

Highly active antiretroviral treatment(HAART) has had a significant impact on survival of individuals with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS);however,with the longer life-span of patients with AIDS,there is increasing prevalence of AIDS dementia complex(ADC) and other non-AIDS-defining illness,and cardiovascular diseases(CVD) are also *** influence of these varied disease processes on HIV-1 DNA concentration in brain tissues has not been thoroughly assessed in the post-HAART *** purpose of the current study is to clarify the impacts of ADC and other complications of HIV disease on the viral load in the brains in AIDS patients with *** examined autopsy specimens from the brains of thirteen patients who died from complications of AIDS with quantitative polymerase chain reaction(QPCR).All but one patient had received HAART prior to death since *** patients died with severe CVD,multiple cerebrovascular atherosclerosis(CVA) throughout the brain and five patients died with *** patients had no ADC/CVA.A QPCR was used to measure the presence of HIV-1 DNA in six brain tissues(meninges,frontal grey matter,frontal white matter,temporal subcortex,cerebellum and basal ganglia).In the post-HARRT era,for non-ADC/CVA patients,HIV-1 DNA concentration in brain tissues was statistically higher than that in patients with *** a new finding,two patients who suffered from severe CVD,especially CVA,also had high concentrations of HIV-1 in brain compartments not showing ADC related *** our knowledge,this is the first report of a relationship between the CVA and HIV-1 viral burden in *** current observations suggest that HAART-resistant HIV reservoirs may survive within ADC lesions of the brain as well as the macrophage rich atherosclerosis,which needs to be confirmed by more AIDS cases with CVA.

Androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） is widely used as standard therapy in the treatment of locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer. While efficacious, ADT is associated with multiple side effects, including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, diabetes, loss of muscle tone and altered body composition, osteoporosis, lipid changes, memory loss, gynecomastia and hot flashes. The breadth of literature for the treatment of hot flashes is much smaller in men than that in women. While hormonal therapy of hot flashes has been shown to be effective, multiple non-hormonal medications and treatment methods have also been developed. This article reviews current options for the treatment of hot flashes in patients taking ADT.

Correlation analysis and the complementary relationship model are used to indirectly measure and characterize the dynamic and thermodynamic properties at the land-atmosphere interface in *** show that thermodynamic forces driving the exchange fluxes of energy,water and carbon between the land surface and the overlying atmosphere are significantly enhanced along the mid-upper reaches of the Yangtze River basin around Sichuan Basin and the northern region of *** thermodynamic forces exhibit a decreasing trend in southern Xinjiang and some regions of *** cloud cover was shown to be a significant factor leading to changes in thermodynamic properties at the land-atmosphere *** Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH) and storm data provide strong evidence that a changing synoptic system is likely a principle factor causing the abnormal spatiotemporal distribution of thermodynamic forces over the land surface in *** data also suggests that cyclical and quasi-cyclical fluctuations of low cloud cover in most regions of China are responsible for annual rainfall *** the same time,NOAA-AVHRR satellite remote sensing data illustrates that changes to land surface characteristics may cause atypical spatiotemporal distributions of thermodynamic forces over the land *** show that thermodynamic forces are weakening in regions with increasing ***,where urbanization has decreased the quantity of vegetation,thermodynamic forces are ***,an increase in large-scale thermodynamic forces is associated with a reduction in low cloud cover due to changes in the synoptic system.

BACKGROUND Multi-phase computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)has been the standard of care for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)diagnosis for *** SUMMARY We report a case series of four patients in whom positron emission tomographycomputed tomography(PET-CT)scan complemented the conventional CT/MRI scans in evaluating treatment *** these four cases the conventional multi-phase CT and MRI failed to identify residual HCC disease post-treatment,while PET-CT complemented and aided in treatment response *** each case,the addition of PET-CT identified and located residual HCC disease,allowed retreatment,and altered medical *** This case series suggests that PET-CT should perhaps play a role in the HCC management algorithm,in addition to the conventional contrast-enhanced multiphase scans.

The purpose of this review and commentary was to provide an historical and evidence-based account of organic acids and the biochemical and organic chemistry evidence for why cells do not produce metabolites that are *** scientific study of acids has a long history dating to the 16th and 17th centuries,and the definition of an acid was proposed in 1884 as a molecule that when in an aqueous solution releases a hydrogen ion(H^(+)).There are three common ionizable functional groups for molecules classified as acids:1)the carboxyl group,2)the phos-phoryl group and 3)the amine *** propensity by which a cation will associate or dissociate with a negatively charged atom is quantified by the equilibrium constant(K_(eq))of the dissociation constant(K_(d))of the ionization(K_(eq)=K_(d)),which for lactic acid(Hla)***(la^(-))is expressed as:K_(eq)=K_(d)=[H^(+)][la^(-)]/[Hla]=4677.3514(ionic strength=0.01 Mol⋅l^(-1),T=25℃).The negative log10 of the dissociation pKd reveals the pH at which half of the molecules are ionized,which for Hla=***,knowing the pKd and the pH of the solution at question will reveal the extent of the ionization *** of molecules that are classified as acids.
