the cuticle is the outer physical barrier of aerial plant surfaces and an important interaction point between plants and the environment. Many environmental stresses affect cuticle formation, yet the regulatory p.t.ways involved remain undefined. We used a genetics and gene expression analysis in Arabidopsis thaliana to define an abscisic acid （ABA） signaling loop.t.at positively regulates cuticle formation via the core ABA signaling p.t.way, including the pYR/pYL receptors, pp2C phosphatase, and SNF1-Related protein Kinase （SnRK） 2.21SnRK2.3/SnRK2.6. Downstream of the SnRK2 kinases, cuticle formation was not regulated by the ABA-responsive element-binding transcription factors but rather by DEWAX, MYB16, MYB94, and MYB96. Additionally, low air humidity increased cuticle formation independent of the core ABA p.t.way and cell death/reactive oxygen species signaling attenuated expression of cuticle-biosynthesis genes. In physcornitrella p.t.ns, exogenous ABA suppressed expression of cuticle- related genes, whose Arabidopsis orthologs were ABA-induced. Hence, the mechanisms regulating cuticle formation are conserved but sophisticated in land plants. Signaling specifically related to cuticle deficiency was identified to play a major role in the adaptation of ABA signaling p.t.way mutants to increased humidity and in modulating their immunity to Botrytis cinerea in Arabidopsis. these results define a cuticle-specific downstream branch in the ABA signaling p.t.way that regulates responses to the external environment.

Hydrothermal treatment of pearl millet grains:Effects on nutritional composition,antinutrients and flour properties

pearl millet(pennisetum glaucum)is one of the major millets with high nutritional properties.this crop exhibits exceptional resilience to drought and high temperatures.However,the processing of pearl millet poses a significant challenge due to its high lipid content,enzyme activity,and presence of antinutrients.Consequently,it becomes imperative to enhance the quality and prolong the shelf life of pearl millet flour by employing suitable technologies.Hydrothermal treatment in the food industry has long been seen as promising due to its p.t.ntial to reduce microbial load,inactivate enzymes,and improve nutrient retention.this study aims to investigate the effects of hydrothermal treatment on the quality characteristics of pearl millet.the independent variables of the study were soaking temperature(35,45,55℃),soaking time(2,3,4 h),and steaming time(5,10,15 min).treatment conditions had a statistically significant effect on nutrient retention.Major antinutrients like tannins and phytates were reduced by 0.99% to 5.94% and 0.36% to 6.00%,respectively,after the treatment.Lipase activity decreased significantly up.t. 10% with the treatment conditions.the findings of this study could p.t.ntially encourage the use of pearl millet flour in the production of various food items and promote the application of hydrothermal treatment in the field of food processing.

Development of endemicity and conservation importance indices for tropical forests and the floral diversity assessment of Mt.Natoo in Benguet,philippines

the scientific community faces the challenge of measuring progress toward biodiversity targets and indices have been traditionally used.However,recent inventories in secondary tropical mountain forests using traditional biodiversity indices have yielded results that are indistinct with primary ones.this shows the need to develop complementary indices that goes beyond species count but integrates the distribution and conservation status of the species.this study developed endemicity and conservation importance index for tropical forest that incorporated the distribution and conservation status of the species.these indices were applied to Mt.Natoo,a remnant primary mossy forest in Buguias,Benguet,philippines,that resulted to endemicity index of 81.07 and conservation importance index of 42.90.Comparing these with secondary forest sites with comparable Shannon-Wiener,Simpson,Evenness and Margalef’s indices,our endemicity and conservation indices clearly differentiates primary forest(our study site)with higher values from secondary forests with much lower values.thus,we are proposing these indices for a direct but scientifically-informed identification of specific sites for conservation and protection in tropical forests.Additionally,our study documented a total of 168 vascular plant species(79 endemic and 12 locally threatened species)in Mt.Nato-o.Majority are of tropical elements for both generic and species levels with some temperate elements that could be attributed to the site's high elevation and semi-temperate climate.these are important baseline information for conservation plans and monitoring of tropical mossy forests.

HI in High Gas-phase Metallicity Dwarf Galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9

We present resolved Giant Metrewave Radio telescope H I observations of the high gas-phase metallicity dwarf galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9(z = 0.005)(hereafter J2306) and investigate whether it could be a tidal Dwarf Galaxy(tDG) candidate. tDGs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. the quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved tDG. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the high-metallicity.Further detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.

Detailed seismic zoning of the East Kazakhstan region in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is currently drafting new construction regulations that comply with the major provisions of the Eurocodes.Such regulations are created on the basis of seismic zoning maps of various degrees of detail,developed by our Institute of Seismology using a new methodological approach for Kazakhstan.the article is about creating the first normative map of the Detailed Seismic Zoning on a probabilistic foundation for the Republic of Kazakhstan’s East Kazakhstan region.We carried out the probabilistic assessment of seismic hazard using a methodology consistent with the main provisions of Eurocode 8and updated compared with that used in developing maps of Kazakhstan’s General Seismic Zoning and seismic microzoning of Almaty.the most thorough and current data accessible for the area under consideration were combined with contemporary analytical techniques.Updates have been done to not only the databases being used but also the way seismic sources were shown,including active faults now.On a scale of 1:1000000,precise seismic zoning maps of the East Kazakhstan region were created for two probabilities of exceedance:10%and 2%in 50 years in terms of peak ground accelerations and macroseismic intensities.the obtained seismic hazard distribution is generally consistent with the General Seismic Zoning of Kazakhstan’s previous findings.However,because active faults were included and a thoroughly revised catalog was used,there are more pronounced zones of increased danger along the fault in the western part of the region.In the west of the territory,acceleration values also increased due to a more accurate consideration of seismotectonic conditions.Zoning maps are the basis for developing new state building regulations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Late Ordovician Mass Extinction: Earth, fire and ice

the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction was the earliest of the ‘big’ five extinction events and the earliest to affect the trajectory of metazoan life. two phases have been identified near the start of the Hirnantian period and in the middle. It was a massive taxonomic extinction, a weak phylogenetic extinction and a relatively benign ecological extinction. A rapid cooling, triggering a major ice age that reduced the temperature of surface waters, prompted a drop in sea level of some 100 m and introduced toxic bottom waters onto the shelves. these symptoms of more fundamental planetary processes have been associated with a range of factors with an underlying driver identified as volcanicity. Volcanic eruptions, and other products, may have extended back in time to at least the Sandbian and early Katian, suggesting the extinctions were more protracted and influential than hitherto documented.

the insensitivity of semiconductors to visible and infrared light is a key constraint on the utilization of light energy in photocatalytic reactions.Constructing photocatalysts with full-spectrum absorption through surface engineering is an effective approach to fully harnessing light energy in semiconductor materials.Herein,a novel stable ti_(3)C_(2)t_(x)MXene/CdS heterojunction catalyst is obtained by in-situ ep.t.xial growth of two-dimensional(2D)CdS nanosheets on 2D MXene interface via a solvothermal method.the exceptional light absorption properties of MXene confer outstanding full-spectrum driven photocat-alytic hydrogen evolution capability upon the heterogeneous catalyst.the unique 2D/2D structure effectively mitigated the recombination of photogenerated carriers,enhancing the photocatalytic performance of the catalyst.Moreover,the composite catalyst exhibits a significantly higher surface temperature of 80.4℃under visible light irradiation at an intensity of 0.1 W/cm^(2),which is 1.84 times higher than that of CdS.Under irradiation of visible and near infrared light,the composite catalyst with photothermal ef-fect demonstrates a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 65.4 mmol g^(-1)h^(-1),which is 7.2 times higher than that of CdS catalyst.this study introduces a novel approach for constructing full-spectrum absorption catalysts and expands the application of the photothermal effect in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution research.

Radiative decays D((s))*→D((s))γare revisited in light of new experimental data from the BaBar and BESⅢCollaborations.the radiative couplings gD*Dγencoding nonperturbative QCD effects are calculated in the framework of the covariant confined quark model developed by us.We compare our results with other theoretical studies and experimental data.the couplings(in GeV-1)|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.45(9)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.72(34)calculated in our model agree with the corresponding experimental data|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.47(7)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.77(16).the most interesting case is the decay Ds*→Dsγ,for which a recent prediction based on light-cone sum rules at next-to-leading order|gDs*Dsγ|=0.60(19)deviates from the first(and only to date)lattice QCD result|gDs*Dsγ|=0.11(2)at nearly3σ.Our calculation yields|gDs*Dsγ|=0.29(6),which falls somehow between the two mentioned results,although it is larger than those predicted in other studies using quark models or QCD sum rules.

the Kortewegde Vries(KdV)equation represents the propagation of long waves in dispersive media,whereas the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger(CNLS)equation depicts the dynamics of narrow-bandwidth wave packets consisting of short dispersive waves.A model that couples these two equations seems in-triguing for simulating the interaction of long and short waves,which is important in many domains of applied sciences and engineering,and such a system has been investigated in recent decades.this work uses a modified Sardar sub-equation procedure to secure the soliton-type solutions of the generalized cubic nonlinear Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system of equations.For various selections of arbitrary parameters in these solutions,the dynamic properties of some acquired solutions are represented graph-ically and analyzed.In particular,the dynamics of the bright solitons,dark solitons,mixed bright-dark solitons,W-shaped solitons,M-shaped solitons,periodic waves,and other soliton-type solutions.Our re-sults demonstrated that the proposed technique is highly efficient and effective for the aforementioned problems,as well as other nonlinear problems that may arise in the fields of mathematical physics and engineering.

In vitro bench testing using p.t.ent-specific 3D models for percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation with Venus p-valve

Background: Due to the wide variety of morphology, size, and dynamics, selecting an optimal valve size and location poses great difficulty in percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (ppVI). this study aimed to report our experience within vitro bench testing using p.t.ent-specific three-dimensional (3D)-printed models for planning ppVI with the Venus p-valve.Methods: p.t.ent-specific 3D soft models were generated using polyJet printing with a compliant synthetic material in 15 p.t.ents scheduled to undergo ppVI between July 2018 and July 2020 in Central China Fuwai Hosp.t.l of Zhengzhou University.Results: 3D model bench testing altered treatment strategy in all p.t.ents (100%). One p.t.ent was referred for surgery because testing revealed that even the largest Venus p-valve would not anchor properly. In the remaining 14 p.t.ents, valve size and/or implantation location was altered to avoid valve migration and/or compression coronary artery. In four p.t.ents, it was decided to change the point anchoring because of inverted cone-shaped right ventricular outflow tract (RVOt) (n = 2) or risk of compression coronary artery (n = 2). Concerning sizing, we found that an oversize of 2-5 mm suffices. Anchoring of the valve was dictated by the flaring of the in- and outflow portion in the pulmonary artery. ppVI was successful in all 14 p.t.ents (absence of valve migration, no coronary compression, and none-to-mild residual pulmonary regurgitation [pR]). the diameter of the Venus p-valve in the 3D simulation group was significantly smaller than that of the conventional planning group (36 [2]vs. 32 [4],Z = -3.77,p tro testing indicated no need to oversize the Venus p-valve to the degree recommended by the balloon-sizing technique, as 2-5 mm sufficed.
