Single crystal MoO_3 nanowires were produced using the electrospinning *** resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) revealed that the 1-D nanostructures are 10nm in diameter,on the order of 1μm～2μm in length, and have an orthorhombic *** has been demonstrated that a nano-network of MoO_3 nanowires exhibits higher sensitivity and an n-type response to NH_3 as compared to the response of a traditional sol-gel *** structure,crystallinity, and sensoric nature of these single-step processed nanowires are discussed.

Considerable efforts have been made to develop a male contraceptive and the studies have provided very useful infor-mation in this field. At least five different strategies to develop a male contraceptive have been pursued, namely: inhi-bition of sperm production, interference with sperm function, interruption of sperm transport, prevention of sperm de-position, and prevention of sperm-egg interaction. Of all these approaches, inhibition of sperm production by using an-drogens either alone or in combination with progestins have given the most encouraging results. A nmnber of clinicaltrials substantiate that it is indeed possible to have a reversible, effective and safe hormonal method of contraception. Apostmeiotic and epididymal approach to interfere with sperm function or the secretory and metabolic processes of theepididymis is another attractive option of male contraceptive development. A number of chemical compounds have beenidentified which interfere with sperm function in the epididymis without affecting sperm production, however, the com-pounds evaluated so far were found to be toxic. Interruption of sperm transport through the vas either by vasectomy orpercutaneous intmvasal injection of liquids which form cure-in-place plugs is also an attractive option. However, re-versibility of the methods is of concern in their wide scale use. The major constraint in developing a long-acting male contraceptive seems to be the need for greater investment forproduct development. The clinical trials for evaluating the efficacy and safety of the new products and formulationsstretch over several years and require enormous financial commitment. Nevertheless, the long-term gain of having along-acting reversible contraceptive for men is far greater than the financial commitments over few years. An insight on occurrence of Fe-rich spherules from the Central Indian Ocean Basin(CIOB)provides an understanding of their distribution at a water depth of>5,000 *** the present study,Fe-rich spherules are identified to occur in two different sediment types(i.e.,siliceous and pelagic)and tectonic settings(*** seamounts and fracture zones).These are single spheres or aggregates,of different sizes(63 to 390μm)and show textural variability(smooth/quenched,brickwork,corkscrew,interlocking and dendritic).A comparative study based on physical morphology and chemical composition suggests a common mechanism of *** association of spherules with fracture zones(FZ)and seamounts signifies that morpho-tectonic features play an important role in fluid-driven *** on the evidence and geologic conditions existing in the basin,we conclude that molten fuel-coolant interaction(MFCI)coupled with submarine hydrothermal exhalations could be an ideal mechanism for the formation of spherules and *** accretion of the spherules on the surface sediments could be a result of recent volcanic phenomena,while those occurring at different depths(280-355,and 460-475 cm-bsf)within the sediment core indicate two different *** study provides a global implication in understanding fluid-driven magmatism in a deep-sea intraplate environment.

The Origin and Tectonic Setting of Precambrian Greywacke of Ribandar-Chimbel, Goa, India： Petrological and Geochemical Evidence

The Precambrian greywacke of Ribandar-Chimbel belonging to the Sanvordem Formation of the Goa Group, India, has been studied for petrography and analyzed for major trace elements. The greywacke is characterized by angular to sub-round grains of quartz, feldspar, biotite, chlorite and clay minerals. The abundance of clay in the matrix seems to have influenced the Al2O3 content and the k20/Al2O3 ratio. The variation diagrams indicate a decreasing trend of TiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and MgO; whereas Na2O and CaO exhibit a scatter which could be a result of the variable presence of feldspar within the sediments. The immobile elements, vanadium （25 to 144 ppm）, nickel （up to 107 ppm） and chromium （up to 184 ppm）, reflect abundance of clay minerals. The greywacke shows strongly fractionated REE patterns with LaN/YbN = 8 to 26 and with higher total REE abundances （up to 245 ppm）. The low REE enrichment and depletion in heavier REE with prominent negative Eu anomaly （Eu/Eu^＊= 0.54 to 0.79） suggest a derivation of the greywacke from an old upper continental crust composed chiefly of felsic components. Petrological evidence and geochemical data suggest that the deposition of the greywacke largely took place in a deep to shallow basin that progressively chang- ed from that of a continental island arc to an active continental setting.

N-doped mesoporous alumina has been synthesized using chitosan as the biopolymer template. The adsorbent has been thoroughly investigated for the adsorption of CO2 from a simulated flue gas stream （15% CO2 balanced with N2） and compared with commercially available mesoporous alumina procured from SASOL, Germany. CO2 adsorption was studied under different conditions of pre- treatment and adsorption temperature, inlet CO2 concentration and in the presence of oxygen and moisture. The adsorption capacity was determined to be 29.4 nag CO2/g of adsorbent at 55℃. This value was observed to be 4 times higher in comparison to that of commercial mesoporous alumina at a temperature of 55℃. Basicity of alumina surface coupled with the presence of nitrogen in template in synthesized sample is responsible for this enhanced CO2 adsorption. Adsorption capacity for CO2 was retained in the presence of oxygen; however moisture had a deteriorating effect on the adsorption capacity reducing it to nearly half the value.

Mid-Ocean Ridge Basalts （MORB） from the Northern Central Indian Ridge （NCIR） were recovered between latitudes 3° and 11° S and are olivine tholeiite with higher abundances of k and Rb. They are of typical transitional MORB （T-MORB） variety and appear to have been generated from an enriched-mantle peridotite source. The primitive NCIR MORBs having Mg^# 〉 0.68 are the product of partial melting at an estimated pressure of - 1 GPa. It is inferred that the magma was subsequently modified at a pressure 〉 1 GPa by crystal fractionation and spinel was the first mineral to crystallize followed by separation of relatively Fe-rich olivine with subsequent decrease in pressure. During progressive fractionation at lower pressure （between 1-0.5 GPa）, the bulk composition of the magma became systematically depleted in MgO, and enriched in ∑FeO, TiO2, P2Os and Na20. There was, however, limited gradual depletion in Al2O3 and CaO and concomitant enrichment in k20. With the progressive fractionation these basalts became gradually enriched in V, Co, Y, Zr and to some extent in Sr, and depleted in Ni and Cro In addition, the T_JtEE of the magma also increased with fractionation, without any change in （La/Yb）n value.
