The probabilistic real-time automaton （PRTA） is a representation of dynamic processes arising in the sciences and industry. Currently, the induction of automata is divided into two steps： the creation of the prefix tree acceptor （PTA） and the merge procedure based on clustering of the states. These two steps can be very time intensive when a PRTA is to be induced for massive or even unbounded datasets. The latter one can be efficiently processed, as there exist scalable online clustering algorithms. However, the creation of the PTA still can be very time consuming. To overcome this problem, we propose a genuine online PRTA induction approach that incorporates new instances by first collapsing them and then using a maximum frequent pattern based clustering. The approach is tested against a predefined synthetic automaton and real world datasets, for which the approach is scalable and stable. Moreover, we present a broad evaluation on a real world disease group dataset that shows the applicability of such a model to the analysis of medical processes.

Clean Steel Technologies Based on Interactions of Refractory Filtering Materials with Steel Melt

New carbon bonded filters with “active and reactive coatings ” for higher filtration efficiency of alumina based inclusions as well as nano-engineered filters with nano-scaled additives are explored with the aid of impingement tests and are evaluated according to their cold crushing strengths at room temperature. The combination of carbon nanotubes and alumina nanosheets additives leads to in situ formation of Al3 CON. Both the nanoscaled additives as well as the extra alumina “active”coating lead to improved mechanical performance of the carbon bonded filters and open the horizon for filter macrostructures with higher filtration capacities in means of bigger dimensions. In a further step MWCNT（ multi walled carbon nanotubes） in combination with a synthetic pitch have been used as a functional coating on the surface of alumina carbon bonded filters. These filters have then been evaluated also with uncoated filters in a special casting simulator and the interactions between steel and filtering material have been investigated.

Does combined therapy of curcumin and epigallocatechin gallate have a synergistic neuroprotective effect against spinal cord injury？

Systematic inflammatory response after spinal cord injury （SCI） is one of the factors leading to lesion development and a profound degree of functional loss. Anti-inflammatory compounds, such as curcumin and epigallocatechin gallate （EGCG） are known for their neuroprotective effects. In this study, we investigated the effect of combined therapy of curcumin and EGCG in a rat model of acute SCI induced by balloon compression. Immediately after SCI, rats received curcumin, EGCG, curcumin ＋ EGCG or saline [daily intraperitoneal doses （curcumin, 6 mg/kg; EGCG 17 mg/kg）] and weekly intramuscular doses （curcumin,60 mg/kg; EGCG 17 mg/kg）] for 28 days. Rats were evaluated using behavioral tests （the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan （BBB） open-field locomotor test, flat beam test）. Spinal cord tissue was analyzed using histological methods （Luxol Blue-cresyl violet staining） and mmunohistochemistry （anti-glial fibrillary acidic protein, anti-growth associated protein 43）. Cytokine levels （interleukin-1β, interleukin-4, interleukin-2,interleukin-6, macrophage inflammatory protein 1-alpha, and RANTES） were measured using Luminex assay. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to determine the relative expression of genes （Sort1, Fgf2, Irf5, Mrc1, Olig2, Casp3, Gap43, Gfap, Vegf, NfκB, Cntf） related to regenerative processes in injured spinal cord. We found that all treatments displayed significant behavioral recovery, with no obvious synergistic effect after combined therapy of curcumin and ECGC. Curcumin and EGCG alone or in combination increased axonal sprouting, decreased glial scar formation, and altered the levels of macrophage inflammatory protein 1-alpha, interleukin-1β, interleukin-4 and interleukin-6 cytokines. These results imply that although the expected synergistic response of this combined therapy was less obvious, aspects of tissue regeneration and immune responses in severe SCI were evident.

Improvement of Survival in Patient with Primary Metastatic Breast Cancer over a 10-Year Periode: Prospective Analyses Based on Individual Patient Date from a Multicenter Data Bank

Approximately 6% of patients with breast cancer have distant metastases at the time of the initial diagnosis. The aim of this analysis was to examine the overall survival rate over time and to investigate the effect of new therapy options. Methods: This retrospective analysis was performed based on the data bank of the Clinic for Gynaecological Oncology/Dr. Horst schmidt Klinik, Wiesbaden and the Clinic for Gynaecological Oncology and Senology/Kliniken Essen Mitte, Essen. The patients with primary metastatic breast cancer (pmBC) who were diagnosed and treated at the accredited breast cancer centres of these clinics were enrolled between 1998 and 2007. The date of diagnosis was used to define 2 specifically chosen 5-year periods: 1998-2002 and 2003-2007. The follow-up time was on average 76 months. The Breslow Test was used to evaluate changes in the median survival time and to detect factors associated with the increase in survival rates. Results: Two hundred sixteen patients with complete baselines were analysed. Ninety patients were diagnosed between 1998 and 2002, and 126 patients received their diagnosis of pmBC between 2003 and 2007. The tumour-biological factors were the same in both groups, whereas the therapeutic concepts were different—the later group (2003-2007) received more aromatase inhibitors, taxane-based chemotherapy and trastuzumab. This finding resulted in an increased median survival time from 31 months in the years 1998-2002 to 44 months in the group with the first diagnosis between 2003 and 2007. Conclusions: Primary metastatic breast cancer occurred at constant rates over last 10 years. The tumour findings did not change in the time between the two examined groups;however, the treatment options in the 2003-2007 group included newly approved therapies. The time period of the first diagnosis was detected as a risk factor for overall survival. Those patients diagnosed in the more recent time frame had a significantly improved survival rate. The es
