Reconcile the contradictory wettability requirements for the reduction and oxidation half-reactions in overall CO_(2) photoreduction via alternately hydrophobic surfaces

The overall photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction reaction(OPCRR)that can directly convert CO_(2) and h_(2)O into fuels represents a promising renewable energy conversion *** a typical redox reaction,the OPCRR involves two half-reactions:the CO_(2) reduction half-reaction(CRhR)and the water oxidation half-reaction(WOhR).Generally,both half-reactions can be promoted by adjusting the wettability of ***,there is a contradiction in wettability requirements for the two ***,CRhR prefers a hydrophobic surface that can accumulate more CO_(2) molecules on the active sites,ensuring the appropriate ratio of gas-phase(CO_(2))to liquid-phase(h_(2)O)***,the WOhR prefers a hydrophilic surface that can promote the departure of the gaseous product(O_(2))from the catalyst surface,preventing isolation between active sites and the reactant(h_(2)O).here,we successfully reconciled the contradictory wettability requirements for the CRhR and WOhR by creating an alternately hydrophobic *** was achieved through a selectively hydrophobic modification method and a charge-transfer-control ***,the collaboratively promoted CRhR and WOhR led to a significantly enhanced OPCRR with a solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency of 0.186%.Notably,in ethanol production,the catalyst exhibited a 10.64-fold increase in generation rate(271.44μmol g^(-1)h~(-1))and a 4-fold increase in selectivity(55.77%)compared to the benchmark *** innovative approach holds great potential for application in universal overall reactions involving gas participation.

Inspired by the success of Ch-series acceptors, a small-molecular acceptor, Ch-Tz was reported by adopting a new conjugationextended electron-deficient unit([1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-b]pyrazine) on the central core. Owing to the enhanced inter-/intramolecular interactions, Ch-Tz exhibited near-infrared absorption and an effective three-dimensional molecular packing network in its single crystal. When blended with polymer donor PM6, the binary device achieved a high power conversion efficiency(PCe) of 18.54%, with a notable short-circuit current density(J_(sc)) of 27.54 m A cm-2and an excellent fill factor(FF) over 80%,which can be partly ascribed to the balanced charge transport properties in the blend film. After employing D18-Cl as the third component, an enhanced PCe of 18.85% was achieved due to a more obvious fiber network. Impressively, the Ch-Tz-based OSC devices show excellent thermal stability and thickness insensitivity. Record-breaking Jscof 28.92 m A cm-2was reached for PM6:D18-Cl:Ch-Tz ternary device with a thickness of 560 nm. Besides, Ch-Tz shows potential in fabricating multicomponent high-performance organic solar cells, where over 19% efficiency could be realized in the quaternary device. Our work advances the strong influence of electron-deficient central units on molecular photovoltaic properties and guides the design of acceptors for stable and large-thickness organic solar cells.

Recently, a class of innovative notions on quantum network nonlocality(QNN), called full quantum network nonlocality(FQNN), have been proposed in Phys. Rev. lett. 128 010403(2022). As the generalization of full network nonlocality(FNN), l-level quantum network nonlocality(l-QNN) was defined in arxiv. 2306.15717 quant-ph(2024). FQNN is a NN that can be generated only from a network with all sources being non-classical. This is beyond the existing standard network nonlocality, which may be generated from a network with only a non-classical source. One of the challenging tasks is to establish corresponding Bell-like inequalities to demonstrate the FQNN or l-QNN. Up to now, the inequality criteria for FQNN and l-QNN have only been established for star and chain networks. In this paper, we devote ourselves to establishing Bell-like inequalities for networks with more complex structures. Note that star and chain networks are special kinds of tree-shaped networks. We first establish the Bell-like inequalities for verifying l-QNN in k-forked tree-shaped networks. Such results generalize the existing inequalities for star and chain networks. Furthermore, we find the Bell-like inequality criteria for l-QNN for general acyclic and cyclic networks. Finally, we discuss the demonstration of l-QNN in the well-known butterfly networks.

The efficiency of photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction reaction(PCRR)is restricted by the low solubility and mobility of CO_(2) in water,poor CO_(2) adsorption capacity of catalyst,and competition with hydrogen evolution reaction(heR).Recently,hydrophobic modification of the catalyst surface has been proposed as a potential solution to induce the formation of triple-phase contact points(TPCPs)of CO_(2)(gas phase),h_(2) O(liquid phase),and catalysts(solid phase)near the surface of the catalyst,enabling direct delivery of highly concentrated CO_(2) molecules to the active reaction sites,resulting in higher CO_(2) and lower h+surface *** TPCPs thus act as the ideal reaction points with enhanced PCRR and suppressed ***,the initial synthesis of triple-phase photocatalysts tends to possess a lower bulk density of TPCPs due to the simple structure leading to limited active points and CO_(2) adsorption ***,based on constructing a hydrophobic hierarchical porous TiO_(2)(o-hPT)with interconnected macropores and mesopores structure,we have significantly increased the density of TPCPs in a unit volume of the *** with hydrophobic macroporous TiO_(2)(o-MacPT)or mesoporous TiO_(2)(o-MesPT),the o-hPT with increased TPCP density leads to enhanced photoactivity,enabling a high methanol production rate with 1111.5μmol g^(−1) h^(−1) from *** results emphasize the significance of high-density TPCPs design and propose a potential path for developing efficient PCRR systems.
