In this work,we dem.nstrate the power of a sim.le top-down electrochem.cal erosion approach to obtain Pt nanoparticle with controlled shapes and sizes(in the range from.2 to-10 nm..Carbon supported nanoparticles with narrow size distributions have been synthesized by applying an alternating voltage to m.croscopic bulk platinum.structures,such as disks or *** using any surfactants,the size and shape of the particles can be changed by adjusting sim.le param.ters such as the applied potential,frequency and electrolyte *** instance,application of a sinusoidal AC voltage with lower frequencies results in cubic nanoparticles;whereas higher frequencies lead to predom.nantly spherical *** the other hand,the am.litude of the,sinusoidal signal was found to affect the particle size;the lower the am.litude of the applied AC signal,the sm.ller the resulting particle ***/C catalysts prepared by this approach showed 0.76 A/m. m.ss activity towards the oxygen reduction reaction which is-2 tim.s higher than the state-of-the-art com.ercial Pt/C catalyst(0.42 A/m.)from.*** addition to this,we discussed the m.chanistic insights about the nanoparticle form.tion pathways.

According to changed views on driver training and driverintroduced in the Netherlands. The exam.consists of two parts：（l）instructor preparation, a com.etence-based instructor exam.wasm.ltim.dia theory tests; （2） a perform.nce lesson for drivinginstruction and coaching. An im.licit idea behind the innovated exam.is that it can have a positive backwash effect on the quality ofdriver instructor preparation program.. This study aim. to evaluate the reliability, validity and fairness of the theoretical tests, whichappear in different versions for successive groups of PDIs （prospective driving instructors）. Data of 4,741 PDIs, enrolled during theperiod between january 2010 and October 2012, were used for analysis. The results of psychom.tric analyses show that the theory testsyielded reliable and fair decisions about instructor certification. The predictive validity of the theory tests for the final perform.nceassessm.nt was low. Im.lications for the design and on-the-fly m.intenance of exam.item.banks are discussed. Follow-up studies willfocus on the question, whether the im.roved instructor exam.produces safer drivers in the end.

Sensitive Spectrofluorim.tric m.thod for Determ.nation of Fluoroquinolones through Charge-Transfer Com.lex Form.tion

A sensitive spectrofluorim.tric m.thod was developed for determ.nation of ciprofloxacin (CPFX), levofloxacin (LEV), gatifloxacin (GAT) and m.xifloxacin (m.X) in pure, com.ercial form.lations, hum.n urine and plasm.. The m.thod is based on charge-transfer (CT) com.lex with chloranilic acid. Fluorescence intensity of the com.lexes was m.asured at em.ssion wavelength ranging from.445-492 nm.with excitation wavelengths from.285-330 nm. At optim.m.experim.ntal conditions, a linear calibration plot was obtained in the concentration range of 20-1000 ng·m.-1, 60-320 ng·m.-1, 20-800 ng·m.-1 and 20 -00 ng·m.-1 for CPFX, LEV, m.X and GAT, respectively with good correlation coefficient in the range of 0.9929-1.0 in m.thanolic m.dium. The lim.t of detection and lim.t of quantification were found to be 5 ng·m.-1 and 18 ng·m.-1 for CPFX, 12 ng·m.-1 and 40 ng·m.-1 for LEV, 8 ng·m.-1 and 19 ng·m.-1 for m.X, 6 ng·m.-1 and 19 ng·m.-1 for GAT, respectively. The m.thod was found free of interferences from.excipients used as additive in pharm.ceutical preparations, som. com.on cations and com.ounds present in urine and plasm. as well as co-adm.nistered analgesic, vitam.ns and other drugs. The m.thod was successfully applied for quantification of selected fluoroquinolones in com.ercial form.lations and also in spiked hum.n urine and plasm. sam.les with percent recoveries of 100.0 ± 1.56 and 100.2 ± 1.29 respectively.

Clear cell colitis: A form.of m.croscopic colitis in children

AIm. To describe a new clinical and pathological subtype of m.croscopic colitis in children. m.THODS: A selected group of children with abdom.nal pain, constipation and/or diarrhoea showing discrete or no m.croscopic abnorm.lities on endoscopy was described. RESULTS: m.ltiple biopsies of colon showed large m.nonuclear clear cells in lam.na propria of m.cous m.m.rane provided that good quality histological sections were perform.d and observed under a higher m.gnification. Otherwise, they could be m.sinterpreted as artefacts. Their presence in routine histology m.ght suggest a system.c storage disease (Whipple’s disease), and neuronal intestine dysplasia. Using im.unohistochem.cal staining and electron m.croscopy we confirm.d their origin from.CD68 positive m.nonuclear m.crophages. CONCLUSION: The presence of large clear cells is a constant m.croscopic feature. Failure of transient large bowel stationary m.crophages plays a role in the pathogenesis of this benign m.croscopic clear cell colitis, som.tim.s coexisting with allergy.

Background: Over the last decades, m.ny forest sim.lators have been developed for the forests of individual European countries. The underlying growth m.dels are usually based on national datasets of varying size, obtained from.National Forest Inventories or from.long-term.research plots. m.ny of these m.dels include country-and location-specific predictors, such as site quality indices that m.y aggregate clim.te, soil properties and topography effects. Consequently, it is not sensible to com.are such m.dels am.ng countries, and it is often im.ossible to apply m.dels outside the region or country they were developed for. However, there is a clear need for m.re generically applicable but still locally accurate and clim.te sensitive sim.lators at the European scale, which requires the developm.nt of m.dels that are applicable across the European continent. The purpose of this study is to develop tree diam.ter increm.nt m.dels that are applicable at the European scale, but still locally accurate. We com.iled and used a dataset of diam.ter increm.nt observations of over 2.3 m.llion trees from.10 National Forest Inventories in Europe and a set of 99 potential explanatory variables covering forest structure, weather, clim.te, soil and nutrient ***: Diam.ter increm.nt m.dels are presented for 20 species/species groups. Selection of explanatory variables was done using a com.ination of forward and backward selection m.thods. The explained variance ranged from.0% to 53% depending on the species. Variables related to forest structure(basal area of the stand and relative size of the tree) contributed m.st to the explained variance, but environm.ntal variables were im.ortant to account for spatial patterns. The Influence of m.thod of Carburizing and Nitrocarburizing on the m.crostructure and Properties of Tool Steels.

The paper presents the results of wear and m.tallography tests of tool steel grades: ASTm.A681, Chl2m.and CH12FS per COST, Am. 6437E i BS X46Crl3, all surface hardened by the Carbo process (carburizing) and by the NiCar process (nitrocarburizing). The therm.-chem.cal treatm.nt was conducted in powder pack for a duration of 6 h (carburizing) and for 4 h in the case of nitrocarburizing. Factors investigated were: m.rphology, depth and m.crohardness of the cases obtained, their m.crostructure, as well as phase com.osition. Wear tests were conducted by the three cylinder-cone m.thod. Wear velocity was 0.58 m.s, unit load was 50 m.a and 400m.a, wear path was 3470 m. Oil SAE30 was applied at the rate of 30 drops per m.nute.

AIm. To determ.ne whether IFN-α is the agent that turns a slightly effective treatm.nt (radiochem.therapy) into a potent therapy, we tested IFN-α for its synergistic ***: Eight pancreatic carcinom. cell lines were treated with the single agents and com.inations of *** role of IFN-α regarding a) direct inhibitory effects; b)radio and chem.sensitizing effects; c) anti-angiogenic properties and d) enhancem.nt of im.unogenicity was ***: Our results show that IFN-α has direct inhibitory properties and som. synergistic influence as determ.ned by AnnexinV/PI stain and cell count. IFN-α is also able to prevent the increase in proliferation rate and VEGF secretion of CDDP resistant cells. Having taken the results from.im.unogenicity experim.nts together, we found cells that can be influenced by IFN-α but were less susceptible against T cells. Furtherm.re, high expression of m.C m.lecules, CD118, EGF-R and Fas was predictive for a good ***: In conclusion, IFN-α has direct cytotoxic effects, acts as a radiosensitizer and circum.ents tum.r cell-regrowth after CDDP treatm.nt. These m.chanism. m.y be responsible for the good clinical outcom. of CapRI.

Background： The stom.ch is an underestim.ted key interface between the ingesta and the digestive system. affecting the digestion and playing an im.ortant role in several endocrine functions. The quality of starter m.crobiota and the early life feeding of m.dium.chain triglycerides m.y affect porcine gastric m.turation. Two trials（T1, T2） were carried out on 12 and 24 cesarean-delivered piglets（birth, d0）, divided over two m.crobiota treatm.nts, but slaughtered and sam.led at two or three weeks of age, respectively. All piglets were fed orally： sow serum.T1） or pasteurized sow colostrum.T2） on d0; sim.le starter m.crobiota（Lactobacillus am.lovorus, Clostridium.glycolicum.and Parabacteroides spp.）（d1-d3）; com.lex m.crobiota inoculum.sow diluted feces, CA） or a placebo（sim.le association, SA）（d3-d4） and m.lk replacer ad libitum.d0-d4）. The The T1 piglets and half of the T2 piglets were then fed a m.ist diet（CTRL）; the rem.ining half of the T2 piglets were fed the CTRL diet fortified with m.dium.chain triglycerides and 7% coconut oil（m.T）. Total m.RNA from.the oxyntic m.cosa was analyzed using Affym.trix？Porcine Gene array strips. Exploratory functional analysis of the resulting values was carried out using Gene Set Enrichm.nt ***： Com.lex m.crobiota upregulated 11 gene sets in piglets of each age group vs. SA. Of these sets, 6 were upregulated at both ages, including the set of gene m.rkers of oxyntic m.cosa. In com.arison with the piglets receiving SA, the CA enriched the genes in the sets related to interferon response when the CTRL diet was given while the sam. sets were im.overished by CA with the m.T ***： Early colonization with a com.lex starter m.crobiota prom.ted the functional m.turation of the oxyntic m.cosa in an age-dependent m.nner. The dietary fatty acid source m.y have affected the recruitm.nt and the m.turation of the im.une cells, particularly when the piglets were early associated with a sim.lified starter m.crobiota.
