Pore-scale study of the effects of DTPA chelating agent flooding on oil recovery utilizing a clay-coated micromodel

The use of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA)chelating agent has shown promising results for enhanced oil recovery(EOR)in prior *** mechanisms,mainly resulting from rock-fluid interaction,have been proposed for chelating agent flooding;however,little attention has been paid to fluid-fluid interaction thus *** assessment of these mechanisms has primarily relied on macroscopic techniques such as core *** paper aims to investigate the injection of DTPA brine and its dominant mechanisms at the pore scale using a clay-coated *** micromodel tests were performed under oil-wet and water-wet *** a more precise examination of fluid/fluid interactions,the dynamic interfacial tension(IFT)and Zeta potential were *** was observed that the injection of DTPA brine in water-wet state changed the saturation distribution and increased oil *** on visual inspections,this change in saturation distribution could potentially be linked to the formation of micro-dispersions and viscoelastic interfacial ***-dispersions facilitate flow to unswept areas,and viscoelastic interface formation reshapes the interface between oil and brine,causing disconnected oil droplets to coalesce and thus increase *** the oil-wet state,the micro-dispersion formation and wettability alteration can be the dominant mechanisms,and the amount of recovered oil was higher than that observed in the water-wet ***,Zeta potential measurements at the interface between brine and oil showed a more negative value for DTPA brine,which is effective in wettability alteration and micro-dispersions *** results indicate that IFT reduction was not significant enough to be considered the dominant mechanism,although it assists in DTPA brine penetration into the crude oil and subsequent micro-dispersion formation.

A novel correlation approach for prediction of natural gas compressibility factor

Gas compressibility factor （z-Factor） is one of the most important parameters in upstream and downstream calculations of petroleum *** importance of z-Factor cannot be overemphasized in oil and gas engineering *** experimental measurements,Equations of State （EoS） and empirical correlations are the most common sources of z-Factor *** are more than twenty correlations available with two variables for calculating the z-Factor from fitting in an EoS or just through fitting ***,these correlations are too complex,which require initial value and more complicated and longer computations or have magnitude *** purpose of this study is to develop a new accurate correlation to rapidly estimate *** of this correlation is compared with large scale of database and experimental data *** correlation has 1.660 of Absolute Percent Relative Error （EABS） versus Standing and Katz chart and has also 3.221 of EABS versus experimental *** output of this correlation can be directly assumed or be used as an initial value of other implicit *** correlation is valid for gas coefficient of isothermal compressibility （cg） calculations also.

A new and reliable model for predicting methane viscosity at high pressures and high temperatures

In recent years, there has been an increase of interest in the flow of gases at relatively high pressures and high temperatures. Hydrodynamic calculation of the energy losses in the flow of gases in conduits, as well as through the porous media constituting natural petroleum reservoirs, requires knowledge of the viscosity of the fluid at the pressure and temperature involved. Although there are numerous publications concerning the viscosity of methane at atmospheric pressure, there appears to be little information available relating to the effect of pressure and temperature upon the viscosity. A survey of the literature reveals that the disagreements between published data on the viscosity of methane are common and that most investigations have been conducted over restricted temperature and pressure ranges. Experimental viscosity data for methane are presented for temperatures from 320 to 400 K and pressures from 3000 to 140000 kPa by using falling body viscometer. A summary is given to evaluate the available data for methane, and a comparison is presented for that data common to the experimental range reported in this paper. A new and reliable correlation for methane gas viscosity is presented. Predicted values are given for temperatures up to 400 K and pressures up to 140000 kPa with Average Absolute Percent Relative Error （EABS） of 0.794.

A simulation approach: Miscible carbon dioxide injection in a carbonate reservoir

The purpose of this study is to optimize the existing carbon dioxide （CO2） flood in deep dolomite formations by improving oil sweep efficiency of miscible CO2 floods and enhancing the conformance control. A full compositional simulation model using a detailed geologic characterization was built to optimize the injection pattern. The model is a quarter of an inverted nine-spot and covers 20 acres of field formation. Geologic description was used to construct the simulation grids. The simulation layers represent actual flow units and resemble the large variation of reservoir properties. History match was performed to validate the model. Several sensitivity runs were made to improve the CO2 sweep efficiency and increase the oil recovery. Finally, the optimum CO2 injection rate for dolomite formations was determined approximately. Simulation results also indicate that a water-alternating-gas （WAG） ratio of 1：1 along with an ultimate CO2 slug of 100% hydrocarbon pore volume （HCPV） will allow an incremental oil recovery of 18%. The additional recovery increases to 34% if a polymer is injected as a conformance control agent during the course of the WAG process at a ratio of 1：1. According to the results, a pattern reconfiguration change from the nine spot to staggered line drive would represent an incremental oil recovery of 26%.

Oil and gas reservoirs are of the main assets of countries possessing *** from these reservoirs is one of the main concerns of engineers,which can be achieved by drilling oil and gas *** of hydrocarbon wells is one of the most expensive operations in the oil *** of the most important parameters affecting drilling cost is the rate of penetration(ROP).This paper predicts the rate of penetration using artificial intelligence and hybrid models on Kaboud oil field well#7 in the directional *** this study,different models were constructed through various approaches based on 1878 dataset obtained from drilling operation in the well#***,the accuracy of the constructed models was compared with each *** was found that the MLP-ABC algorithm predicts the rate of penetration more accurately,by far,as compared with other *** MLP-ABC algorithm achieves impressive ROP prediction accuracy(RMSE=0.007211 m/h;AAPD=0.1871%;R^(2)=1.000 for the testing subset).Consequently,it can be concluded that this method is applicable to predict the drilling rate in that oilfield.

采用机械涂层技术在Ti-6Al-4V基体表面沉积HA/Ti复合涂层与功能梯度涂层(FGC),对涂层进行表征,对比其磨损行为和生物相容性。制备复合涂层所用初始粉末为50%Ti(质量分数)和50%HA(质量分数)的混合粉末,而FGC分为两层,分别为75%Ti+25%HA和25%Ti+75%HA(质量分数)。XRD结果表明在沉积过程中没有发生相变。此外,由于原始混合粉末中存在Ti颗粒,在涂层和基体之间形成了结合良好的连续界面,特别是在功能梯度涂层样品中。磨损实验结果显示,非梯度复合涂层的摩擦因数约为0.37,在界面处发生突变,而功能梯度涂层的摩擦因数从0.32增加到0.5,在界面处发生平缓变化。磨损表面的SEM像表明涂层的主要磨损机制为磨粒磨损。生物相容性评价结果显示,FGC样品具有更好的细胞黏附和增殖能力。

Bark content variations and the production of Populus deltoides as a source of bioenergy under temperate climate conditions

Bark biomass as an energy source has a high economic *** content variations and production helps recognize the potential of this bioenergy source spatially before *** percentage of fresh and dry bark in Populus deltoides grown under a monoculture system was examined in the temperate region of northern *** at breast height(DBH)and total height data were analyzed based on an initial *** sample trees were felled,separated into 2 m-segments,and weighted in the field.A 5-cm-thick disc from each segment was extracted for determining fresh and dry bark *** were statistically significantly different in disc diameter classes and decreased with increasing disc *** percentage of the disc classes ranged from 21.8 to 24.4%in small-sized diameters to 8.1-9.3%in large-sized *** differences between fresh and dry bark percentages depended on water content *** power equations were fitted to data of fresh and dry bark percentages and disc diameters as well as *** values of R~2 ranged from 0.89 to *** addition,allometric power equations provided the best fits for relationships between total stem dry biomass,dry bark biomass,and DBH,R~2=0.986 and 0.979 for the total stem dry biomass and stem dry bark biomass,*** allometric models can be used to estimate bark percentage and bark production of *** in segments and for the whole stem for a wide range of segment diameters(8-44 cm)and DBH(15-45 cm).

The bonded repair techniques seem to be the most frequent procedures in the aviation *** achieved composite repaired perforated thin-walled plate is a complex geometry with high numerical analysis *** NURBS-based Isogeometric Analysis(IGA)proposes a sensible and affordable tool to carry out such geometry *** this context,a well-known technique is to divide the original geometry assembly into number of simple neighbors connected *** the present study the free vibration analysis of the perforated plates repaired on one side with an external bonded composite laminated patch is investigated.A multi-patch geometry modeling approach is implemented in line with the first order shear deformation theory of *** order to hold the geometry integrity and uniformity,all the degrees of freedom between adjacent geometry patches are completely tied through implementing a Nitsche *** show the effectiveness and accuracy of the developed formulation,some representative results are extracted and compared with those from *** effects of geometrical as well as material parameters including boundary condition,cutout shape,and repair layup on the dynamic response of the repaired perforated plates are then investigated.

Carbon storage in biomass,litter,and soil of different native and introduced fast-growing tree plantations in the South Caspian Sea

Replantation of degraded forest using rapidgrowth trees can play a significant role in global carbon budget by storing large quantities of carbon in live biomass,forest floor,and soil organic *** assessed the potential of 20-year old stands of three rapid-growth tree species,including Alnus subcordata,Populus deltoides and Taxodium distichum,for carbon(C) storage at ecosystem *** September 2013,48 replicate plots(16 m × 16 m) in 8 stands of three plantations were established.36 trees were felled down and fresh biomass of different components was weighed in the *** equations were fitted using data based on the 36 felled *** biomass of understory vegetation and litter were measured by harvesting all the *** C fraction of understory,litter,and soil were *** ecosystem C storage was as follows: ***(626.5 Mg ha) [ ***(542.9Mg ha) [ ***(486.8 Mg ha)(P \ 0.001),of which78.1–87.4% was in the *** plantation reached the highest tree biomass(206.6 Mg ha),followed by ***(134.5 Mg ha) and ***(123.3 Mg ha).The highest soil C was stored in theplantation of ***(555.5 Mg ha).The C storage and sequestration of the plantations after 20 years were considerable(25–30 Mg hayear) and broadleaves species had higher *** species had a higher soil C storage while the potential of introduced species for live biomass production was higher.
