Long-term outcomes of pediatric liver transplantation in acute liver failure vs end-stage chronic liver disease:A retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND Children with acute liver failure(ALF)who meet the criteria are eligible for super-urgent transplantation,whereas children with end-stage chronic liver disease(ESCLD)are usually transplanted *** liver transplantation(PLT)in ALF and ESCLD settings has been well described in the literature,but there are no studies comparing the outcomes in these two *** To determine if there is a difference in post-operative complications and survival outcomes between ALF and ESCLD in *** This was a retrospective observational study of all primary PLTs performed at a single center between 2000 and *** and ESCLD groups were compared for pretransplant recipient,donor and operative parameters,and post-operative outcomes including graft and patient *** Over a 20-year study period,232 primary PLTs were performed at our center;195 were transplanted for ESCLD and 37 were transplanted for *** ALF recipients were significantly older(median 8 years vs 5.4 years;P=0.031)and heavier(31 kg vs 21 kg;P=0.011).Living donor grafts were used more in the ESCLD group(34 vs 0;P=0.006).There was no difference between the two groups concerning vascular complications and rejection,but there were more bile leaks in the ESCLD ***-transplant patient survival was significantly higher in the ESCLD group:1-,5-,and 10-year survival rates were 97.9%,93.9%,and 89.4%,respectively,compared to 78.3%,78.3%,and 78.3%in the ALF group(P=0.007).However,there was no difference in 1-,5-,and 10-year graft survival between the ESCLD and ALF groups(90.7%,82.9%,77.3%vs 75.6%,72.4%,and 66.9%;P=0.119).CONCLUSION Patient survival is inferior in ALF compared to ESCLD recipients;the main reason is death in the 1st year post-PLT in ALF *** the ALF children overcome the 1st year after transplant,their survival stabilizes,and they have good long-term outcomes.

Phytochemical screening, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of daphne mucronata

OBJECTIVE:To aim at preliminary phytochemical screening of Daphne mucronata and evaluate its antioxidant and antibacterial ***:Preliminary phytochemical screening was conducted for the crude extracts using standard *** properties of crude methanolic extracts,n-hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate and aqueous fractions of leaves,roots and bark were evaluated following standard *** antibacterial activities were checked against Acinetobacter baumannii(***),Escherichia coli(***),Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***),Staphylococcus aureus(***),Morganella morganii(***)and vancomycin resistant ***(VRSA).RESULTS:Carbohydrates,saponins,steroids,phenols/tannins,flavonoids and glycosides were present in different parts of Daphne *** extracts showed good antioxidant activity with EC50 values of 157.82-361.61μg/m *** extracts of roots showed good activity against ***(86.95%),***(85.18%)and ***(84.61%).Methanolic extracts of bark were active against ***(65.21%),***(65.21%)and ***(62.96%).Methanolic extracts of leaves showed good activity against ***(78.26%),***(77.78%),***(74.07%),***(73.07%),***(69.56%),VRSA(68%)and Proteus vulgaris(60%).The n-hexane fraction of roots was effective against ***(78.26%).Chlorofom fraction of roots showed moderate activity against ***(60.86%)and ***(61.53%).Ethyl acetate fraction of roots showed moderate activity against ***(69.56%),***(62.96%)and ***(69.23%).CONCLUSION:This study illustrates that Daphne mucronata possesses good antioxidant and antibacterial *** plant could be further exploited as potential natural antioxidant and as a new source of antimicrobials for treatment of various infections.

Strategies to Build Trust and COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence and Engagement among Minority Groups in Scotland

As countries continue to deal with the global COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, policymakers recognize that science, technology, and innovation(STI) practices offer a means of addressing many of the health problems that arise from the ongoing pandemic. Such recognition has given rise to many STI policy initiatives across various areas of science and policy, leading to a better understanding of coronavirus and the development of COVID-19 vaccines,treatments, and diagnostics. However, the practical implementation of vaccine and treatment strategies within local communities extends well beyond the laboratory. This study explored how misinformation and trust amplify or attenuate coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccine perceptions of those from ethnic minority groups deemed more susceptible to the impacts of the virus. Primary data in this study were collected in Scotland through semistructured interviews with 26 expert and nonexpert members from Scotland’s minority ethnic communities. The study findings show that risk perception is fluid and dependent on the information and evidential environment in which people find themselves. Misinformation, fake news, conspiracies, and trust or distrust(from prior experiences and historic practices) influence the perception of coronavirus and how risk messages are received, including the acceptance of coronavirus *** article reflects on Scotland’s approach to building trust and COVID-19 vaccine confidence and engagement based on the findings of this study, identifying areas of strength and areas for further improvement or research. The authors believe, as shown by our research, that vaccine engagement will be more impactful if developed by and with the public,and reflects public values, concerns, and priorities.

许多研究从宏观层面探讨农业发展。最近,许多年轻人决定从事农业项目,不仅仅是像老一辈人那样为了粮食保障,而且是以战略和技术的方式进行实践。目前,坦桑尼亚正在实施工业化政策,目标是使人民经济从低收入向中等收入转变。坦桑尼亚农业在国民经济中占有重要地位,也面临着许多挑战。几十年来,当地一直在进行农业生产,许多家庭这样做只是为了粮食保障。如果要将农业从地方一级转变为高度和潜在的可持续发展水平必须鼓励农业项目。本研究旨在找出影响农业项目可持续性的因素,并对其进行评估,以确定哪些因素比其他因素更重要,最后提出改善坦桑尼亚农业项目可持续性的策略。被学问的人开展的农业项目,可以给那些刚从学校和大学毕业的上未有工作的年轻一代带来更多的关注和启发。不同的文献讨论了影响农业项目可持续性的各种因素,本研究借助这些文献识别出可持续性因素,并将其分为经济、环境和社会三个可持续性维度。资本、营销、创新与技术、教育与知识、基础设施、利益相关者管理、自然资源管理和政府政策法规是本研究确定的因素,其中一些因素在多个维度上相互作用,以政府政策法规为例。本研究同时使用一手和二手数据,二手数据来自于深入的文献回顾、网站等,一手数据来自于向农业利益相关者（包括农业专家、项目经理、农民和雇员）分发问卷。本次调查共发放问卷28份,填写问卷20份。最终采用层次分析法对最终结果进行评估。层次分析法是采用Goepel（2013）开发的AHP模板软件,这是一种可以计算权重、归一化主特征向量、几何一致性指数、一致性和一致性比的软件,它是在Microsoft Excel下工作,根据群体决策者输入不同的意见,运用几何平均法进行计算,对数据进行综合,最终得到结果。在经济、环境和社会三个可持续性维度中,经济可持续性是最重要的因素,其次是环境可持续性和社会可持续性,得分分别为44%、41%和1 5%。根据研究结果,坦桑尼亚农业项目的经济可持续性最重要的因素是资金,其次是市场营销、政府政策法规、教育培训、基础设施和技术创新。然而,本研究发现,对于环境可持续性而言,自然资源管理是最重要的因素,其次是政府政策法规和技术创新。此外,对社会可持续发展中的利益相关者管理与政府政策法规进行了比较,结果表明利益相关者管理是最重要的因素。最后,改善坦桑尼亚农业项目可持续性的战略向所有可持续性方面提出了建议,包括加强坦桑尼亚的金融农业机构、准确的营销和增值信息、吸引外国投资者,支持性的政府政策法规和统一的计划,增加国家级的农业展览、会议和研讨会,农业利益相关者和政府之间的合作,以及对毕业生的农业产业化。

Effect of drying technologies on the biochemical properties of Stolephorus commersonnii

Objectives:Two different methods,namely traditional sundrying and solar dryer drying were employed to investigate the effect of drying method on the quality of Indian anchovies,Stolephorus *** and Methods:Fifty fish samples of Stolephorus commersonnii were purchased for the drying *** dried fishes were bought from the local *** solar drying the samples were kept in on the solar cabinet dryer KSD 25 designed and fabricated by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology(CIFT).International standard AOAC methods were used for quality analysis of dried fish ***:The method of drying by the solar dryer is more hygienic and faster than the traditional sun-drying *** biochemical compositions and sensory evaluation of the products obtained showed significant variation between the two drying *** dryer-dried fish has got good organoleptic score than the traditional sundried *** overall quality of fish dried in the solar dryer was better than the traditionally sundried ***:The study clearly indicates that solar drying can be used as an environment-friendly method for fish processing which enhances food security.

Saffron(Crocus sativus L.) stigmas as a potential natural additive to improve oxidative stability attributes of sunflower(Helianthus annuus L.) oil stored under different conditions

The aim of our study was to explore the antioxidant potential of Moroccan saffron stigmas(SS) and examine their performance as a natural antioxidant in enhancing the stability and quality properties of edible sunflower oil(SO), with a focus on understanding the critical importance of edible oil stability for predicting quality deterioration during storage. Bearing this in mind, our research was designed to compare the efficacy of three concentrations of dried SS(at 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.6%) against tocobiol(a synthetic antioxidant) as a positive control(at 0.3% concentration). This comparison was conducted under three distinct storage conditions namely accelerated ageing(60 ℃), exposure to light at ambient temperature, and darkness, to evaluate their impact on preventing severe oxidation and extending oil shelf-life. Oxidation state evolution was evaluated through peroxide value(PV), free fatty acid(FFA), anisidine value(p-AV), K_(270)value(conjugated trienes), total oxidation index(TOTOX), iodine value(IV), and fatty acid composition(FA). Our results revealed notable differences in stability tracking parameters. Specifically, these parameters were higher in samples stored under accelerated conditions, followed by the samples stored in ambient light, while those stored in darkness showed the highest stability among the three storage conditions. Supplementation of sunflower oil with SS and tocobiol significantly enhanced its oxidation stability. Notably, SS exhibited exceptional effectiveness in stabilizing sunflower oil regardless of SS dose, with the highest efficacy observed at 0.6%. This was evidenced by the slower rate of oxidation parameters under various storage conditions, highlighting a superior antioxidant activity compared to both the non-enriched oil and tocobiol-enriched oil. Assessment of spatial and seasonal water quality variation of Oum Er Rbia River(Morocco)using multivariate statistical techniques

The aim of this study is to assess the spatial and temporal water quality variation and to determine the main contamination sources in the Oum Er Rbia River and its main tributary,El Abid *** water quality data were collected during 2000-2012 from fourteen sampling stations distributed along the *** water quality indicators used were TEMP,pH,EC,turbidity,TSS,DO,NH_(4)^(+),NH_(3)^(-),TP,BOD5,COD and *** water quality data was analyzed using multivariate statistical methods including Pearson's correlation,PCA,and *** results showed that in some stations the water quality parameters were over Moroccan water *** applied to compare the compositional patterns among the analyzed water samples,identified and four factors accounting for almost 63% of the total variation in the *** suggests that the variations in water compounds’concentration are mainly related to point source contamination(domestic and industrial wastewater),non-point source contamination(agriculture activities),as well as natural processes(weathering of soil and rock).CA showed relatively spatial and seasonal changes in surface water quality,which are usually indicators of contamination with rainfalls or other ***,this study showed that the water was potentially hazardous to health of the consumers and highlighted the need to treat industrial and municipal wastewater and to encourage sustainable agricultural practices to prevent adverse health *** therefore suggest wise management of anthropogenic activities in the catchment of Oum Er Bia River and their tributaries.

Physical Network Approach Applied to Wind Turbine Modeling with Simscape Language

Model-Based Design is an efficient and cost-effective way to develop controls, signal processing, image processing, communications, mechatronics, and other embedded systems. Rather than re-lying on physical prototypes and textual specifications, Model-Based Design uses a system model as an executable specification throughout development. It supports system- and component-level design and simulation, automatic code generation, and continuous test and verification. This paper is focused firstly on the so-called model-based design and aims at presenting an up-to-date state of the art in this important field. Secondly, it develops a model based design for wind energy systems. Mathematical formulations and numerical implementations for different components of wind energy systems are highlighted with Simscape language. Finally, results are derived from simulations.
