Air quality is a critical factor in maintaining health and well-being, influencing both current conditions and future outcomes. Hospitals are one of the sensitive areas of our society, for they are built as sanctuaries for treatment and recovery, making the quality of paramount importance. This study investigates the impact of traffic-related emissions on indoor air quality within a Level 5 Hospital outpatient ward. Measurements were taken over five consecutive days, revealing that while CO2 levels generally remained within safe limits, there were instances where concentrations exceeded 3000 ppm, categorizing them as “Hazardous.” Notably, particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) levels fluctuated significantly, with peak concentrations observed during working hours correlating with increased vehicle activity. The data indicated that PM2.5 levels reached as high as 75 µg/m3, with 91.68% of recorded values exceeding the World Health Organization’s (WHO) and Environmental Protection Agency 24-hour mean threshold of 25 µg/m3. similarly, PM10 concentrations peaked at 120 µg/m3, with 61.19% of values surpassing the WHO threshold of 50 µg/m3, both of which pose serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, infants, and the elderly. Additionally, the study highlighted the critical role of wind direction in pollutant dispersion, with specific patterns contributing to elevated indoor concentrations. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions and proactive air quality management strategies in healthcare facilities, including the strategic design of hospital wards away from primary emission sources and the promotion of electric vehicle use to mitigate traffic-related emissions.

This paper summarises efforts to control sleeping sickness [Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT)] by Tsetse flies and Trypanosomiaisis (T & T) control for the 7 consecutive years although started a decade ago in Tanzania National parks (TANAPA). These efforts are critical for curbing HAT incidences and HAT epidemics. HAT cases have had profound negative impacts on human health, affecting local residents and international travel as well as tourism industry resulting into human and animal health burden and reduction in tourism income. Understanding the current efforts is essential in the proper planning and decision making on developing effective control strategy against T & T control. In this paper, we summarize the recent efforts in the control of T & T in National parks and discuss the constraints faced. The information will enable TANAPA and other concerned authorities to make informed decision on optimal ways of controlling HAT in National parks. The results show that much control efforts have so far concentrated in serengeti, Ruaha, Tarangire and Katavi National parks where tsetse fly challenges are high. A total 21,143 (average 3020) Insecticide Treated Targets (ITT) were deployed in different areas in the parks and 82,899 (average 20,725) cars entering these parks were sprayed from 2007/2008 to 2014/2015 and 2007/2008 to 2010/2011 respectively. Deployed ITTs lead to a drastic reduction of FTDs of the two dominant tsetse species to 1.3 and 1.4 of G. swynnertoni and G. pallidipes respectively, and the decline was significant at P = 0.011. The major challenges faced include tsetse re-invasion in controlled areas;resurgence of HAT cases when control efforts are relaxed, ITT maintenance and inadequate health education programs. The control strategy should be continuous and scaled up as failure to implement an effective and sustainable system for HAT control will increase the risk of new epidemic that would impede tourism development.

Changes in permanent sample plots in the lowland,submontane and montane forests on Mount Cameroon(4,095 m above sea level),an active volcano,are described for 15 years from 1989 to *** the study period,the stocking level of trees with a diameter at breast height(DBH) ≥ 10 cm in the three forests were lower than in pan-tropical stands suggesting a significant impact of volcanic and human-related activities on the vegetation communities on the *** mortality rates in the submontane and montane forests were consistent with those reported for comparable altitudinal ranges in the Blue Mountains of *** annual mortality rate was higher in the lowland forest than other lowland sites *** between recruitment and mortality rates was large suggesting that the three vegetation communities have not reached their *** seven-year difference in half-life of large trees(with a DBH ≥ 50 cm) in the submontane and montane forests suggests an altitudinal effect on turnover of larger trees that in turn contributes to the frequent small stature of high altitude *** was little evidence of an altitudinal effect on species turnover and growth *** finding supports generalizations about the zero effect of growth on the stature of high altitude *** forest dynamics is crucially important in the management of tropical montane environmentsand in this instance particularly so given the recent creation of the Mount Cameroon National park.

Environmental pollution is escalating due to rapid global development that often prioritizes human needs over planetary *** global efforts to mitigate legacy pollutants,the continuous introduction of new substances remains a major threat to both people and the *** response,global initiatives are focusing on risk assessment and regulation of emerging contaminants,as demonstrated by the ongoing efforts to establish the UN’s Intergovernmental science-Policy panel on Chemicals,Waste,and Pollution *** review identifies the sources and impacts of emerging contaminants on planetary health,emphasizing the importance of adopting a One Health *** for monitoring and addressing these pollutants are discussed,underscoring the need for robust and socially equitable environmental policies at both regional and international *** actions are needed to transition toward sustainable pollution management practices to safeguard our planet for future generations.
