In stressful or anxiety-provoking situations,most people with Parkinson’s disease(PD)experience a general worsening of motor symptoms,including their gait ***,a proportion of patients actually report benefits from experiencing-or even purposely inducing-stressful or high-arousal *** data from a large-scale international survey study among 4324 people with PD and gait impairments within the online Fox Insight(USA)and ParkinsonNEXT(NL)cohorts,we demonstrate that individuals with PD deploy an array of mental state alteration strategies to cope with their gait ***,these strategies differ along an axis of arousal-some act to heighten,whereas others diminish,overall sympathetic ***,our observations suggest that arousal may act as a double-edged sword for gait control in *** propose a theoretical,neurobiological framework to explain why heightened arousal can have detrimental effects on the occurrence and severity of gait impairments in some individuals,while alleviating them in ***,we postulate that this seemingly contradictory phenomenon is explained by the inherent features of the ascending arousal system:namely,that arousal is related to task performance by an inverted u-shaped curve(the so-called Yerkes and Dodson relationship).We propose that the noradrenergic locus coeruleus plays an important role in modulating PD symptom severity and expression,by regulating arousal and by mediating network-level functional integration across the *** ability of the locus coeruleus to facilitate dynamic‘cross-talk’between distinct,otherwise largely segregated brain regions may facilitate the necessary cerebral compensation for gait impairments in *** the presence of suboptimal arousal,compensatory networks may be too segregated to allow for adequate ***,with supraoptimal arousal,increased cross-talk between competing inputs of these complementary networks may emerge and become dysf

Paleomapping:Creating testable visual hypotheses of ancient worlds

The story of the Earth's changing landscapes is often told through paleogeographic maps. These images are some of the most accessible and widely used illustrations in the Earth sciences. However, no formal procedure for the creation of photorealistic paleomaps(i.e., paleosatellite images) exists. Using an example from the Late Jurassic of the Rocky mountain region, we present a method for making paleoenvironmental and paleosatellite maps that is scalable, reproducible, testable, and incorporates peer review. The process includes a literature review followed by data-visualization, paleoenvironmental interpretation, peer-review,iterative revisions, and the creation of a false contour map and color gradient used to render a paleosatellite image. Paleosatellite images are photorealistic versions of paleoenvironmental maps that incorporate global climatic and tectonic information as well as principles of actualism; they can be made through comparison to analogous modern landscapes. An important component of this process is that the data maps that ground this paleomapping process allow evaluation of where paleoenvironmental interpretations are wellsupported by outcrop and subsurface data, and where such visualization is highly interpretive-often because of lack of available rocks or studies in a given area. As such, our paleoenvironmental maps and paleosatellite images are testable pictorial hypotheses. By outlining a procedure that produces referenced,data-rich, and visually realistic maps, we hope to demystify the paleoenvironmental map-making process and improve accessibility of paleomaps for the broader geoscience community. Where resources and complementary data are available, such maps also have potential for georeferencing and integration with larger continent-scale paleogeographic maps.

Changes in source contributions to the oxidative potential of Pm_(2.5)in urban Xiamen,China

The toxicity of Pm_(2.5)does not necessarily change synchronously with its mass *** this study,the chemical composition(carbonaceous species,water-soluble ions,and metals)and oxidative potential(dithiothreitol assay,DTT)of Pm_(2.5)were investigated in 2017/2018 and 2022 in Xiamen,*** decrease rate of volume-normalized DTT(DTTv)(38%)was lower than that of Pm_(2.5)(55%)between the two sampling ***,the mass-normalized DTT(DTTm)increased by 44%.Clear seasonal patterns with higher levels in winter were found for Pm_(2.5),most chemical constituents and DTTv but not for *** large decrease in DTT activity(84%−92%)after the addition of EDTA suggested that watersoluble metals were the main contributors to DTT in *** increased gap between the reconstructed and measured DTTv and the stronger correlations between the reconstructed/measured DTT ratio and carbonaceous species in 2022were *** decrease rates of the hazard index(32.5%)and lifetime cancer risk(9.1%)differed from those of Pm_(2.5)and DTTv due to their different main *** PmF-mLR model showed that the contributions(nmol/(min·m^(3)))of vehicle emission,coal+biomass burning,ship emission and secondary aerosol to DTTv in 2022 decreased by 63.0%,65.2%,66.5%,and 22.2%,respectively,compared to those in 2017/2018,which was consistent with the emission reduction of vehicle exhaust and coal consumption,the adoption of low-sulfur fuel oil used on board ships and the reduced production of ***,the contributions of dust+sea salt and industrial emission increased.

Identifying cryptic species poses a substantial challenge to both biologists and naturalists due to morphological *** tabaci is a cryptic species complex containing more than 44 putative species;several of which are currently among the world's most destructive crop *** and delimiting the evolution of this species complex has proved *** develop a comprehensive framework for species delimitation and identification,we evaluated the performance of distinct data sources both individually and in combination among numerous samples of the *** species complex acquired *** datasets include full mitogenomes,single-copy nuclear genes,restriction site-associated DNA sequencing,geographic range,host speciation,and reproductive compatibility ***,our well-supported topologies generated from three dense molecular markers highlighted the evolutionary divergence of species of the *** complex and suggested that the nuclear markers serve as a more accurate representation of *** species *** compatibility datasets facilitated the identification of at least 17 different cryptic species within our *** geographic range information provides a complementary assessment of species recognition,while the host range datasets provide low rate of delimiting *** further summarized different data performances in species classification when compared with reproductive compatibility,indicating that combination of mtCOI divergence,nuclear markers,geographic range provide a complementary assessment of species ***,we represent a model for understanding and untangling the cryptic species complexes based on the evidence from this study and previously published articles.

Influence of Car Park Proximity on Air Pollutant Concentrations at a Level 5 Hospital Outpatient Ward

Air quality is a critical factor in maintaining health and well-being, influencing both current conditions and future outcomes. Hospitals are one of the sensitive areas of our society, for they are built as sanctuaries for treatment and recovery, making the quality of paramount importance. This study investigates the impact of traffic-related emissions on indoor air quality within a Level 5 Hospital outpatient ward. measurements were taken over five consecutive days, revealing that while CO2 levels generally remained within safe limits, there were instances where concentrations exceeded 3000 ppm, categorizing them as “Hazardous.” Notably, particulate matter (Pm2.5 and Pm10) levels fluctuated significantly, with peak concentrations observed during working hours correlating with increased vehicle activity. The data indicated that Pm2.5 levels reached as high as 75 µg/m3, with 91.68% of recorded values exceeding the World Health Organization’s (WHO) and Environmental Protection Agency 24-hour mean threshold of 25 µg/m3. Similarly, Pm10 concentrations peaked at 120 µg/m3, with 61.19% of values surpassing the WHO threshold of 50 µg/m3, both of which pose serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, infants, and the elderly. Additionally, the study highlighted the critical role of wind direction in pollutant dispersion, with specific patterns contributing to elevated indoor concentrations. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions and proactive air quality management strategies in healthcare facilities, including the strategic design of hospital wards away from primary emission sources and the promotion of electric vehicle use to mitigate traffic-related emissions.

The outputs of a national economy can be partitioned into three sets of products:tangible goods(due to manufacturing,construction,extraction and agriculture),intangible services(due to an act of useful effort),and an integration of services and goods or,as initially defined by Tien(2012),***,these products can also be considered in terms of their relation to the first three Industrial Revolutions:the First Industrial Revolution(circa 1800)was primarily focused on the production of goods;the Second Industrial Revolution(circa 1900)was primarily focused on the mass production of goods;and the Third Industrial Revolution(circa 2000)has been primarily focused on the mass customization of goods,services or *** this follow-up paper,the Third Industrial Revolution of mass customization continues to accelerate in its evolution and,in many respects,is subsuming the earlier Industrial Revolutions of production and mass *** importantly,with the advent of real-time decision making,artificial intelligence,Internet of Things,mobile networks,and other advanced digital technologies,customization has been extensively enabled,thereby advancing mass customization into a Fourth Industrial Revolution of real-time ***,the moral,ethical,security and employment problems associated with both mass and real-time customization must be carefully assessed and mitigated,especially in regard to unintended *** ahead and with the advance of artificial general intelligence,this Fourth Industrial Revolution could be forthcoming in about the middle of the 21st Century;it would allow for multiple activities to be simultaneously tackled in real-time and in a customized manner.

THE NEXT INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION:INTEGRATED SERVICES AND GOODS

The outputs or products of an economy can be divided into services products ana gooas products （due to manufacturing, construction, agriculture and mining）. To date, the services and goods products have, for the most part, been separately mass produced. However, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third - industrial revolution is focused on the integration of services and/or goods; it is beginning in this second decade of the 21st Century. The Third Industrial Revolution （TIR） is based on the confluence of three major technological enablers （i.e., big data analytics, adaptive services and digital manufacturing）; they underpin the integration or mass customization of services and/or goods. As detailed in an earlier paper, we regard mass customization as the simultaneous and real-time management of supply and demand chains, based on a taxonomy that can be defined in terms of its underpinning component and management foci. The benefits of real-time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced - as ＂servgoods＂ - in real-time, resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers.

BIG DATA:UNLEASHING INFORmATION

At present, it is projected that about 4 zettabytes （or 10^＊＊21 bytes） of digital data are being generated per year by everything from underground physics experiments to retail transactions to security cameras to global positioning systems. In the U. S., major research programs are being funded to deal with big data in all five sectors （i.e., services, manufacturing, construction, agriculture and mining） of the economy. Big Data is a term applied to data sets whose size is beyond the ability of available tools to undertake their acquisition, access, analytics and/or application in a reasonable amount of time. Whereas Tien （2003） forewarned about the data rich, information poor （DRIP） problems that have been pervasive since the advent of large-scale data collections or warehouses, the DRIP conundrum has been somewhat mitigated by the Big Data approach which has unleashed information in a manner that can support informed - yet, not necessarily defensible or valid - decisions or choices. Thus, by somewhat overcoming data quality issues with data quantity, data access restrictions with on-demand cloud computing, causative analysis with correlative data analytics, and model-driven with evidence-driven applications, appropriate actions can be undertaken with the obtained information. New acquisition, access, analytics and application technologies are being developed to further Big Data as it is being employed to help resolve the 14 grand challenges （identified by the National Academy of Engineering in 2008）, underpin the 10 breakthrough technologies （compiled by the massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013） and support the Third Industrial Revolution of mass customization.

ON INTEGRATION AND ADAPTATION IN COmPLEX SERVICE SYSTEmS

The services sector employs a large and growing proportion of workers in the industrialized nations, and it is increasingly dependent on information and communication technologies. While the interdependences, similarities and complementarities of manufacturing and services are significant, there are considerable differences between goods and services, including the shift in focus from mass production to mass customization （whereby a service is produced and delivered in response to a customer＇s stated or imputed needs）. In general, services can be considered to be knowledge-intensive agents or components which work together as providers and consumers to create or co-produce value. Like manufacturing systems, an efficient service system must be an integrated system of systems, leading to greater connectivity and interdependence. Integration must occur over the physical, temporal, organizational and functional dimensions, and must include methods concerned with the component, the management, and the system. moreover, an effective service system must also be an adaptable system, leading to greater value and responsiveness. Adaptation must occur over the dimensions of monitoring, feedback, cybernetics and learning, and must include methods concerned with space, time, and system. In sum, service systems are indeed complex, especially due to the uncertainties associated with the human-centered aspects of such systems. moreover, the system complexities can only be dealt with methods that enhance system integration and adaptation. The paper concludes with several insights, including a plea to shift the current misplaced focus on developing a science or discipline for services to further developing a systems engineering approach to services, an approach based on the integration and adaptation of a host of sciences or disciplines （e.g., physics, mathematics, statistics, psychology, sociology, etc.）.
