Knowledge of factors that are im.ortant in reef resilience helps us to understand how reef ecosystem. react following m.jor anthropogenic and environm.ntal disturbances. The sym.iotic relationship between the photosynthetic zooxanthellae algal cells and corals is that the zooxanthellae provide the coral with carbon, while the coral provides protection and access to enough light for the zooxanthellae to photosynthesise. This article reviews som. recent advances in com.utational biology relevant to photosynthetic organism., including Beyesian approaches to kinetics, com.utational m.thods for flux balances in m.tabolic processes, and determ.nation of clades of zooxanthallae. Application of these system. will be im.ortant in the conservation of coral reefs in tim.s of clim.te change and environm.ntal stress.

Habitable Trinity

Habitable Trinity is a newly proposed concept of a habitable environm.nt. This concept indicates that the coexistence of an atm.sphere （consisting largely of C and N）, an ocean （H and 0）, and a landm.ss （supplier of nutrients） accom.anying continuous m.terial circulation between these three com.onents driven by the Sun is one of the m.nim.m.requirem.nts for life to em.rge and evolve. The life body consists of C, O, H, N and other various nutrients, and therefore, the presence of water, only, is not a sufficient condition. Habitable Trinity environm.nt m.st he m.intained to supply necessary com.onents for life body. Our Habitable Trinity concept can also be applied to other planets and m.ons such as m.rs, Europa, Titan, and even exoplanets as a useful index in the quest for life-containing planetary bodies.

The therm.l conduction of suspended few-layer hexagonal boron nitride （h-BN） sheets was experim.ntally investigated using a noncontact m.cro-Ram.n spectroscopy m.thod. The first-order tem.erature coefficients for m.nolayer （1L）, bilayer （2L） and nine-layer （9L） h-BN sheets were m.asured to be -（3.41 ± 0.12）× 10-2, -（3.15 ± 0.14） × 10-2 and -（3.78 ±0.16）× 10-2 cm.1.K-1, respectively. The room.tem.erature therm.l conductivity of few-layer h-BN sheets was found to be in the range from.227 to 280 W.m.1-K-1, which is com.arable to that of bulk h-BN, indicating their potential use as im.ortant com.onents to solve heat dissipation problem. in therm.l m.nagem.nt configurations.

The electrical properties of chem.cally derived graphene and graphene grown by chem.cal vapor deposition （CVD）, until now, have been inferior to those of m.chanically exfoliated graphene. However, because graphene is easier to produce in large quantities through CVD or growth from.solid carbon sources, it has a higher potential for use in future electronics applications. Generally, m.difications to the pristine lattice structure of graphene tend to adversely affect the electrical properties by shifting the doping level and changing the conductivity and the m.bility. Here we show that a sm.ll degree of graphene surface functionalization, using diazonium.salts with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating functional groups, is sufficient to predom.nantly induce p-type doping, undim.nished m.bility, and higher conductivity at the neutrality point. m.lecules without a diazonium.anchor group desorb easily and do not have a significant effect on the electronic properties of graphene devices. We further dem.nstrate the variability between identically fabricated pristine devices, thereby underscoring the caution needed when characterizing graphene device behaviors lest conclusions be drawn based on singular extrem.s.

In this paper,the advantage of using num.rical m.dels with the strength reduction m.thod(SRm. to evaluate entry stability in com.lex m.ltiple-seam.conditions is dem.nstrated.A coal m.ne under variable topography from.the Central Appalachian region is used as a case *** this m.ne,unexpected roof conditions were encountered during developm.nt below previously m.ned *** m.pping and observation of ground conditions were used to quantify the success of entry support system. in three room.and-pillar *** m.del analyses were initially conducted to estim.te the stresses induced by the m.ltiple-seam.m.ning at the locations of the affected *** SRm.was used to quantify the stability factor of the supported roof of the entries at selected *** SRm.calculated stability factors were com.ared with observations m.de during the site visits,and the results dem.nstrate that the SRm.adequately identifies the unexpected roof conditions in this com.lex *** is concluded that the SRm.can be used to effectively evaluate the likely success of roof supports and the stability condition of entries in coal m.nes.

Fatigue Crack Propagation in Steel A131 Under Ice Loading of Crushing,Bending and Buckling

Three types of ice loading, which are m.st com.only present when ice acts on structures, are chosen and sim.lated for use of fatigue crack propagation tests on offshore structural steel A131. The three types of ice categorized in accordance with the failure m.des when acting on structures called Crushing ice, bending ice, and buckling ice, respectively. This paper presents an experim.ntal investigation on the fatigue crack propagation behavior of widely used high strength steel A131 for offshore jackets in the loading environm.nt of ice crushing, bending, and buckling. The test results of fatigue crack propagation in steel A131 tinder these sim.lated ice loading at tem.erature 292K are presented and analyzed in detail in this paper, The am.litude root m.an square stress intensity factor is optim.zed to be the fundam.ntal param.ter of fatigue crack propagation for all types of ice loading histories. The results are also com.ared with constant am.litude fatigue crack propagation conclusions as in wave load m.de, and a joint investigation on the results from.ice forces, ice-induced vibrations, and ice-induced fatigue crack propagation is conducted. Conclusions are drawn for reference in structural design and m.terial selection for offshore structures in ice environm.nts.

We quantified m.crohabitat use by white-footed m.ce Perom.scus leucopus in forest and old-field habitats occupied by m.rrow＇ s honeysuckle Lonicera m.rrowii, an invasive exotic shrub im.orted from.Japan. m.crohabitat characteristics were com.ared between trails used by m.ce （ n = 124） and random.y selected trails （ n = 127） in 4 study plots located at Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Farm.ngton, Pennsylvania, USA. We com.ared 10 m.erohabitat variables between used and random.trails using non-m.tric m.ltidim.nsional scaling （Nm.S） and classification and regression tree （CART） analysis. Trails used by m.ce were statistically different from.random.y selected trails in both forested plots （ P 〈 0. 008） and old-field plots （ P 〈 0. 001 ）. In the forested plots, trails of white-footed m.ce were m.re often associated with a greater percent cover （% cover） of coarse woody debris （CWD） than were random.y selected trails. In the old-field plots, m.use trails were com.only characterized by having a lower % cover of exotic herbaceous vegetation, a greater % cover of shrubs, and a greater % cover of m.rrow＇ s honeysuckle than random.y selected trails. Our study indicates that white-footed m.ce do not m.ve random.y and prefer areas of high structural com.lexity, thereby showing significant m.crohabitat preference. The preference of white-footed m.ce for areas with a relatively high percent cover of m.rrow＇s honeysuckle could 1 ） be a factor in the aggressive nature of the exotic honeysuckle shrub＇s spread throughout the Battlefield or 2） cause the shrub to spread even faster into adjacent areas not yet occupied by m.rrow＇ s honeysuckle

Owing to their capacity for self-renewal and pluripotency, stem.cells possess untold potential for revolutionizing the field of regenerative m.dicine through the developm.nt of novel therapeutic strategies for treating cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Central to developing these strategies is im.roving our understanding of biological m.chanism. responsible for governing stem.cell fate and self-renewal. Increasing attention is being given to the significance of m.tabolism. through the production of energy and generation of sm.ll m.lecules, as a critical regulator of stem.cell functioning. Rapid advances in the field of m.tabolom.cs now allow for in-depth profiling of stem.cells both in vitro and in vivo, providing a system. perspective on key m.tabolic and m.lecular pathways which influence stem.cell biology. Understanding the analytical platform. and techniques that are currently used to study stem.cell m.tabolom.cs, as well as how new insights can be derived from.this knowledge, will accelerate new research in the field and im.rove future efforts to expand our understanding of the interplay between m.tabolism.and stem.cell biology.
