Event-triggered sliding mode control of linear repetitive processes and its application in metal rolling process

This paper investigates the design problem of a sliding mode controller for linear repetitive processes(LRPs) with a finite pass length on each pass. Under limited communication resources, an eventtriggered mechanism is implemented from the sensors to the controller, whose triggered sequence is consistent with the evolution direction of LRPs. To periodically orchestrate communication between the controller and actuator, a round-robin scheduling mechanism is established based on the pass length. A sliding function involving the state and pass profile is constructed, and the sliding mode controller is designed using triggered states and pass profile signals. Feasible controller gains are attained to ensure the stability of the resultant closed-loop system. Finally, the proposed strategy is implemented for a multi-roll metal rolling process.

In this paper, a delay-independent decentralized stabilization condition for large-scale interconnected continuous systems with unknown but constant delays is established under a certain interconnection decomposition. The condition is expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and hence it is numerically tractable. A remark and an example are given to compare the obtained result with those in the literature.

This paper is concerned with the problem of robust H∞ control for a class of uncertain discretetime nonlinear systems with state delay. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to be time-varying normbounded and appear in all the matrices of the system model. Based on the linear matrix inequality approach, we design a memoryless state feedback control law, which guarantees the stability of the resulting closed-loop system and reduces the effect of the disturbance input on the controlled output to a prescribed level. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method.

This paper deals with H∞ model reduction problem for time-varying delay systems. A sufficient condition which characterizes the reduced-order models is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with inverse constraints. An efficient algorithm is derived to obtain the reduced-order model such that the H∞ norm of the error system is less than a prescribed scalar. An example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model reduction algorithm.

＜正＞This paper proposes a new model for time-delay systems, which contains multiple successive delay components in the state and has important applications in remote control and network based control. New results on stability and （?）∞ performance are obtained for systems with two successive delay components. The second part of this paper applies the proposed new model to network based control, which has emerged as a topic of significant interest in the control community. A sampled-data networked control system with simultaneous consideration of network induced delays, data packet dropouts and measurement quantization is modelled as a time-delay system with two successive delay components in the state and, the problem of network based （?）∞ control is solved accordingly.

This paper proposes a new stability analysis result for discrete-time systems with time-varying state delay. This stability condition is expressed as a feasibility test in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMI), which depends on the minimum and maximum delay bounds. In addition, the stability condition is further extended to discrete time-delayed systems with uncertain parameters. The most frequently used ways of dealing with parameter uncertainties, including polytopic and normbounded characterizations, are taken into consideration. A numerical example is provided to show the applicability of the new stability condition.

Sea Nine 211 as antifouling biocide: A coastal pollutant of emerging concern

Sea Nine 211, with 4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one（DCOIT） being the biocidal ingredient, is a widely-used antifouling agent to deter the undesirable biofouling phenomenon. It is commercially promoted as an environmentally acceptable antifoulant mainly due to its claimed rapid degradation in marine environment. However, increasing researches document varying degradative kinetics in different environments, proving that Sea Nine 211 is actually not degraded equally fast around the world（half-life between〈 1 day and 13.1 days）. Large-scale application of Sea Nine 211 in antifouling coatings has also caused global contamination of marine environment in various compartments. For example, accumulation of Sea Nine 211 is detected as high as 3700 ng/L in Spanish seawater and 281 ng/g dry weight in Korean sediment. Considering that Sea Nine 211 is highly toxic against non-target marine organisms, environmental risk assessment finds that most marine organisms are endangered by Sea Nine 211 in worst-case scenario. Its endocrine disrupting and reproductive impairing effects at environmentally worst-case concentrations further constitute a long-term threat to the maintenance of population stability.Therefore, in the light of the varying degradability, environmental pollution and high toxicity, especially the endocrine disruption, Sea Nine 211 as an antifouling agent is likely to cause non-negligible damages to the marine ecosystem. There is an urgency to perform a systematic ecological risk assessment of Sea Nine 211 to prevent the potential impacts on the health of marine environment. A regular monitoring also becomes necessary to place the usage of antifouling biocides under control.

＜正＞A special kind of pole assignment problem for discrete-time control systems is addressed. By considering an a posteriori sensitivity measure of deadbeat zero-eigenvalues, the problem of gain-controlled robust dead-beat regulation （GCRDR） can be tackled by minimizing a cost function defined via the sensitivity measure and the feedback gain size, with the tradeoff being controlled by a weighting factor. It is shown that the strict convexity and quadratic nature of the cost function enable the unique global minimizing solution to be computed exactly by merely solving a symmetric system of linear equations.
