Lidar techniques present a distinctive ability to resolve vertical structure of optical properties within the upper water column at both day-and ***,accuracy challenges remain for existing lidar instruments due to the ill-posed nature of elastic backscatter lidar retrievals and multiple *** we demonstrate the high performance of,to the best of our knowledge,the first shipborne oceanic high-spectral-resolution lidar(HSRL)and illustrate a multiple scattering correction algorithm to rigorously address the above challenges in estimating the depth-resolved diffuse attenuation coefficient Kd and the particulate backscattering coefficient bbp at 532 *** data were collected during day-and night-time within the coastal areas of East China Sea and South China Sea,which are connected by the Taiwan *** include vertical profiles from open ocean waters to moderate turbid waters and first lidar continuous observation of diel vertical distribution of thin layers at a fixed *** root-mean-square relative differences between the HSRL and coincident in situ measurements are 5.6%and 9.1%for Kd and bbp,respectively,corresponding to an improvement of 2.7-13.5 and 4.9-44.1 times,respectively,with respect to elastic backscatter lidar *** oceanic HSRLs with high performance are expected to be of paramount importance for the construction of 3D map of ocean ecosystem.

An adhesive and resilient hydrogel for the sealing and treatment of gastric perforation

Adhesive hydrogels have been recently proposed as a potential option to seal and treat gastric perforation(GP)which causes high mortality despite advancements in surgical ***,to be effective,the hydrogels must have sufficient tissue adhesiveness,tough mechanical property,tunable biodegradability and ideally are easy to apply and ***,we report an adhesive and resilient hydrogel for the sealing and treatment of gastric *** hydrogel consists of a bioactive,transglutaminase(TG)-crosslinked gelatin network and a dynamic,borate-crosslinked poly-N-[Tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl]acrylamide(PTH)*** hydrogel can be formed in situ,facilitating easy delivery to the GP and allowing for precise sealing of the *** vivo experiments,using a perforated stomach mouse model,shows that the adhesive hydrogel plug effectively seals GP defects and promotes gastric mucosa ***,this hydrogel represents a promising biomaterial for GP treatment.

Although there is a growing interest in developing asymmetric 1,6-addition reactions of carbon nucleo-philes to Michael acceptors,the corresponding 1,6-addition of homoenolates remains an unsolved ***,the N-heterocyclic carbene(NHC)-catalyzed cycloadditions of homoenolate equivalent intermediates have achieved widespread ***,considerable limitations still exist for the linear reactions with electron-deficient alkenes,which are limited to 1,4-Michael *** report presents the first NHC-catalyzed asym-metric homoenolate addition of enals to 1,6-Michael *** strategy leads to the challenging nonspirocyclic 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles with two adjacent stereocenters,a quaternary and a trisubsti-tuted one,in good yields and high stereoselectivities with a wide variety of substrates.

Documenting the origins of megadiverse(sub)tropical aquatic ecosystems is an important goal for studies of evolution and ***,the geological and ecological establishment of the modern Yangtze River remains poorly ***,we reconstruct the geographic and ecological history of an endemic clade of East Asian fishes based on the mitochondrial phylogenomics analysis of Cyprinidae using 15 fossil *** estimate an ancestral condition of benthic spawning with demersal or adhesive eggs in southern East Asia before23 Ma and a derived condition of riverine spawning with semibuoyant eggs in the Yangtze by18 *** results imply the formation of Yangtze riverine ecosystems around the Oligocene-Miocene boundary in response to plateau uplift and monsoon *** of these cyprinids reverted to benthic spawning with adhesive eggs by15 Ma,a time of rising to peak net diversification rates,indicating the formation of potamo-lacustrine ecosystems by the mid-Miocene during a strong East Asian summer *** study provides increased spatiotemporal resolution for the co-evolutionary histories of the Yangtze River and its biodiversity and highlights biological evidence concerning the geomorphological dynamics of the Yangtze River.

Whitefly feeding behavior and retention of a foregut-borne crinivirus exposed to artificial diets with different pH values

Transmission of plant viruses by phytophagous hemipteran insects encompasses complex interactions underlying a continuum of processes involved in virus acquisition, retention and inoculation combined with vector feeding behavior. Here, we investigated the effects of dietary pH on whitefly （Bemisia tabaci） feeding behavior and release of Lettuce infectious yellows virus （LIYV） virions retained in the vector＇s foregut. Electrical penetration graph analysis revealed that variables associated with whitefly probing and ingestion did not differ significantly in pH （4, 7.4, and 9） adjusted artificial diets. To investigate virus retention and release, whiteflies allowed to acquire LIYV virions in a pH 7.4 artificial diet were fed pH 4, 7.4, or 9 virion-free artificial （clearing） diets. Immunofluorescent localization analyses indicated that virions remained bound to the foreguts of approximately 20%-24% of vectors after they fed on each of the 3 pH- adjusted clearing diets. When RNA preparations from the clearing diets were analyzed by reverse transcription （RT） nested-PCR and, in some cases, real-time qPCR, successful amplification of LIYV-specific sequence was infrequent but consistently repeatable for the pH 7.4 diet but never observed for the pH 4 and 9 diets, suggesting a weak pH-dependent effect for virion release. Viruliferous vectors that fed on each of the 3 pH-adjusted clearing diets transmitted LIYV to virus-free plants. These results suggest that changes in pH values alone in artificial diet do not result in observable changes in whitefly feeding behaviors, an observation that marks a first in the feeding of artificial diet by whitefly vectors; and that there is a potential causal and contingent relationship between the pH in artificial diet and the release/inoculation of foregut bound virions.

The huge atomic heterogeneity of high-entropy materials along with a possibility to unravel the behavior of individual components at the atomic scale suggests a great promise in designing new compositionally complex systems with the desired ***,we apply multi-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy(extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS),Xray absorption near edge structure(XANES),and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism(XMCD))to probe the structural,electronic,and magnetic properties of all individual constituents in the single-phase face-centered cubic(fcc)-structured nanocrystalline thin film of Cr_(20)Mn_(26)Fe_(18)Co_(19)Ni_(17)(at.%)high-entropy alloy on the local *** local crystallographic ordering and componentdependent lattice displacements were explored within the reverse Monte Carlo approach applied to EXAFS spectra collected at the K absorption edges of several constituents at room temperature.A homogeneous short-range fcc atomic environment around the absorbers of each type with very similar statistically averaged interatomic distances(2.54-2.55Å)to their nearest-neighbors and enlarged structural relaxations of Cr atoms were *** and XMCD spectra collected at the L2,3 absorption edges of all principal components at low temperature from the oxidized and in situ cleaned surfaces were used to probe the oxidation states,the changes in the electronic structure,and magnetic behavior of all constituents at the surface and in the sub-surface volume of the *** spin and orbital magnetic moments of Fe,Co,and Ni components were quantitatively *** presence of magnetic phase transitions and the co-existence of different magnetic phases were uncovered by conventional magnetometry in a broad temperature range.

已建结构的动力测试是了解其实际动力性能、提升建模和计算分析精度、检测结构损伤情况的重要手段.提出了 Human Shaker(HS)的方法,利用人的行走、跳跃和摆动等运动实现对结构的激振,由智能可穿戴设备得到激振荷载和结构响应,并由此识别结构的模态参数.首先建立了由特征点加速度重构人致激振荷载的方法,以及利用可穿戴设备的HS应用步骤,进而以横向摆动为例通过实验确定了特征点位置及其对应的质量参与修正系数.最后将HS技术应用于某实际结构的动力测试和模态参数识别,结果表明,HS技术可以方便快捷地用于中小型结构的模态测试.

Blocking transforming growth factor(TGF)β1 signal transduction has been a central strategy for scar reduction;however,this approach appears to be minimally ***,we show that fibromodulin(FMOD),a 59-kD small leucine-rich proteoglycan critical for normal collagen fibrillogenesis,significantly reduces scar formation while simultaneously increasing scar strength in both adult rodent models and porcine wounds,which simulate human cutaneous scar ***,FMOD uncouples promigration/contraction cellular signals from pro-fibrotic signaling by selectively enhancing SMAD3-mediated signal transduction,while reducing AP-1-mediated TGFβ1 auto-induction and fibrotic extracellular matrix ***,FMOD accelerates TGFβ1-responsive adult fibroblast migration,myofibroblast conversion,and ***,our findings strongly indicate that,by delicately orchestrating TGFβ1 activities rather than indiscriminately blocking TGFβ1,FMOD elicits fetal-like cellular and molecular phenotypes in adult dermal fibroblasts in vitro and adult cutaneous wounds in vivo,which is a unique response of living system undescribed *** together,this study illuminates the signal modulating activities of FMOD beyond its structural support functions,and highlights the potential for FMOD-based therapies to be used in cutaneous wound repair.
