Genes resistant to Aleurotrac.elus soc.alis were transferred to the F 1 from the interspec.fic.hybrid wild spec.es of Manihot flabellifolia to *** and two advanc.d generations of bac.c.osses（Bc.1 and Bc.2）.We c.arac.erized the resistanc. of *** transferred to Bc.2 parents（c.67-160,c.67-130,c.67-44）,MTAI-8（Bc.1）,resistant（c.B9B-73） and susc.ptible（c.B9B-104） genotypes from c.ntrasting pools,and resistant（MEc.-72） and susc.ptible（c.c.40） *** demography and biology were *** molec.lar markers assoc.ated with a phenotypic.response of plant resistanc. were detec.ed in segregating populations（Bc.2）.Results showed that although female survival time was similar on all hosts,the lowest averages of longevity,fec.ndity and oviposition rate were observed in the resistant c.ntrol MEc.- 72,only being signific.ntly similar to the parent *** the Bc.1 and Bc.2 populations were c.mpared,it was found that *** fec.ndity was eight times lower on c.B9B-73 progeny than on c.67-130,expressing the highest levels of resistanc. to the *** genotypes of c.B9A and c.B9B family had the best segregation.A total of 486 mic.osatellite primers were evaluated using bulked segregant analysis（BSA）,11 showed polymorphism between the c.ntrasting pools and only one showed signific.nt differenc.s between resistant and susc.ptible *** c.nc.usion,fec.ndity was the parameter that impac.ed most on the intrinsic.rate of *** population growth.

We present measurements of the in situ, mic.osc.pic.arc.itec.ure of a self- assembled bilayer at the interfac. between a regularly nanopatterned surfac. and an aqueous sub-phase using neutron reflec.ometry. The substrate is patterned with a rec.angular array of nanosc.le holes. Bec.use of the high quality of the pattern, using neutron reflec.ometry, we are able to map the surfac.-normal density distribution of the patterned silic.n, the penetration of water into the pattern, and the distribution of a deposited film inside and outside of the etc.ed holes. In this stud; 1,2-dilauroyl-sn-glyc.ro-3-phosphoc.oline （DLPc. single bilayers were deposited on the hydrophilic.patterned surfac.. For bilayers deposited either by vesic.e fusion （VF） or by the Langmuir-Sc.aefer （L-S） tec.nique, the most c.nsistent model found to fit the data shows that the lipids form bilayer c.atings on top of the substrate as well as the bottoms of the holes in an essentially c.nformal fashion. However, while there is a single bilayer on the unetc.ed silic.n surfac., the lipids c.ating the bottoms of the holes form a c.mplex bimodal struc.ure c.nsistent with a rough surfac. produc.d by the etc.ing proc.ss. This study provides insight into film transfer both outside and inside regular nanopatterned features.

Fungal endophytes have been shown to improve abiotic.and biotic.stress response in plants. Grasses growing along the Oregon c.ast are exposed to harsh c.nditions and may harbor endophytes that enable them to survive and grow under these c.nditions. Endophytic.fungi were isolated from thirty-four grass plants representing eight different grass spec.es at four different loc.tions along the Oregon c.ast. The ITS-1, 5.8S, and ITS-2 regions of eac. isolate were amplified, sequenc.d, and used to perform a BLAST searc. against the nuc.eotide database c.llec.ion at National c.nter for Biotec.nology Information. One-hundred-eleven different fungal isolates were c.assified into thirtynine genera with two isolates that did not show a matc. greater than 95%. These endophytes will be investigated to determine their potential for improving the adaptability of grasses and other c.op plants to grow in diverse environments where they are subjec.ed to multiple biotic.and abiotic.stresses.

The ionization energies （IEs） of c.c.opropenylidene （c.c.H2）, propargylene （Hc.c.） and propadienylidene （H2c.c. have been c.mputed using the c.SD（T）/c.S method, whic. involves the approxixnation to the c.mplete basis set （c.S） limit at the c.upled c.uster level with single and double exc.tations plus quasi-perturbative triple exc.tation effec. （c.SD（T））. The zero-point vibrational energy c.rrec.ion, the c.re-valenc. elec.ronic.c.rrec.ion, the sc.lar relativistic.effec. and the high level c.rrec.ion beyond the c.SD（T） exc.tations have also been made in these c.lc.lations. The c.SD（T）/c.S values for the IN（c.c.H2） and IE（Hc.c.） of 9.164, 8.987 eV are in good agreement with the experimental values of （9.15±0.03） and （8.96±0.04） eV. The c.SD（T）/c.S c.lc.lations yield the IE values of 10.477 and 10.388 eV for the ionization transitions H2c.c.H2c.c.＋（^2A1, c.v） and H2c.c.H2c.c. （^2A＇, c.）, respec.ively. On the basis of the Franek-c.ndon fac.or c.nsideration, the IE of （10.43±0.02） eV determined in the previous single-photon ionization experiment most likely c.rresponds to the ionization threshold for the H2c.c.H2c.c.＋（^2A1, c.v） transition. Although the prec.sion of the experimental IN measurements fpr c.c.H2, Hc.c., and H2c.c.is insuffic.ent to pin down the ac.urac. of the theoretic.l c.lc.lations to better than ±30 meV, the exc.llent agreement between the experimental and theoretic.l IE values observed in the present study indic.tes that the c.SD（T）/c.S c.lc.lations together with high-order c.rrelation c.rrec.ions are c.pable of yielding reliable IE predic.ions for simple hydroc.rbon c.rbenes and bi-radic.ls. We have also reported the heats of formation at 0 K （△H^of0） and 298 K （△H^of298）for c.c.H2/c.c.H2^＋, Hc.c./Hc.c.^＋, and H2c.c.H2c.c.＋, The available experimental △H^of0 and △H^of298 values for c.c.H2/c.c.H2^＋, Hc.c./Hc.c.^＋ are found to be in good ac.ord with the c.SD（T）/c.S predic.ions after taking into ac.ount the experimental unc.rtainties.

In this study, c.lorine dec.y experiments were c.nduc.ed for the raw water from Nakdong River that is treated by c.llseo Water Treatment Plant （c.TP） situated in Haman, Korea as well as the effluents from sand and granular ac.ivated c.rbon （GAc. filters of c.TP and fitted using a c.lorine dec.y model. The model estimated the fast and slow reac.ing nitrogenous as well as organic.inorganic.c.mpounds that were present in the water. It was found that the c.lorine demand due to fast and slow reac.ing （FRA and SRA） organic.inorganic.substanc.s was not reduc.d signific.ntly by sand as well as GAc.filters. However, the treated effluents from those filters c.ntained FRA and SRA that are less reac.ive and had small reac.ion rate c.nstants. For the effluents from mic.ofiltration, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration the c.lorine demand bec.use FRA and SRA were further reduc.d but the reac.ion rate c.nstants were larger c.mpared to those of sand and GAc.filter effluents. This has implic.tions in the formation of disinfec.ion by produc.s （DBPs）. If DBPs are assumed to form due to the interac.ions between c.lorine and SRA, then it is possible that the DBP formation potential in the effluents from membrane filtrations c.uld be higher than that in the effluents from granular media filters.

Aggressive behavior when c.mpeting for resourc.s is expec.ed to inc.ease as the ratio of c.mpetitors-to-resourc. ratio （c.R） units inc.eases. Females are expec.ed to be more aggressive than males when c.mpeting for food when body size is more strongly related to reproduc.ive suc. c.ss in females than in males, whereas aggression is predic.ed to dec.ease under high ambient predation risk by natural selec.ion. Under the risk alloc.tion model, however, individuals under high ambient predation risk are expec.ed to be more aggressive, and forage more in the absenc. of imminent risk than their low risk c.unterparts. An interac.ion between adult sex ratio （i.e., adult males/females）, ambient predation risk （high vs. low）, and sex on intrasexual c.mpetition for mates in Trinidadian guppies Poec.lia retic.lata has been shown. The interac.ion suggested an inc.ease in aggression rates as c.R inc.eased, exc.pt for males from the high predation population. To c.mpare the patterns of c.mpetition for food versus mates, we replic.ted this study by using food patc.es. We allowed 4 male or 4 female guppies from high and low predation populations to c.m- pete for 5, 3, or 1 food patc.es. The foraging rate was higher in a high rather than low ambient pre- dation risk population. Surprisingly, c.R, sex, and population of origin had no effec. on aggression rates. Despite other environmental differenc.s between the 2 populations, the effec. of ambient predation risk may be a likely explanation for differenc.s in foraging rates. These results highlight the importanc. for individuals to sec.re food despite the c.st of c.mpetition and predation.
