New Zealand government’s Rural Broadband Initiative(RBI)aims to invest 400 million New Zealand dollar to provide 99%of New Zealanders with access to 50 Mbps peak broadband speed,with the remaining 1%at 10 Mbps by *** 2017,stage 1 of the RBI has been completed,and research is needed to find out the level of usage,proficiency,and productivity achieved by ***,a survey was carried out to learn whether the rural residents and their communities are making good use of the new fast broadband *** survey collected data from 217 rural residents from North Island,and the results indicate that about half of the interview respondents are satisfied with the new broadband speed and the reliability which is offered by RBI stage ***,there is about 28%of the respondents disagreed with *** majority of the Internet uses for rural residents are information searching,reading news,online entertainment,and online *** that,only a small proportion of respondents know how to utilize the Internet in their work/business and benefit/profit from it,e.g.,using cloud technology capabilities and online marketing campaigns,*** ***,we argue that information and communications technologies(ICT)adoption is not only the availability of the infrastructure but also the beneficial outcomes of Internet *** other words,Internet skills in-depth training and education need to catch up with the infrastructure deployment,which is useful to fuel the digital productivity and inclusion for booming rural *** survey data-driven findings presented in this paper could serve as a reference to inform government policymakers and those who wish to create,invest,and take actions to speed up the economic and social growth of rural communities in Aotearoa New Zealand through the Internet while shifting from the Internet speed and traffic volume-driven to a more effective Internet connectivity and value-added driven rural economy.

In the Brazilian drylands, there are tens of thousands of small dams. Despite their paramount importance to the rural population, they are rarely monitored. Water demand increases with time while, simultaneously, siltation reduces reservoir water capacity and availability. Reservoir siltation models are, therefore, mandatory to manage the numerous ungauged small dams in these *** objective of the current study is to improve sediment trap efficiency(TE) modeling by including resuspension as a key probabilistic process. The Shannon entropy was used to estimate the sediment resuspension probability, which was merged with the Camp model and generated the RETSED entropy model. To validate the RETSED model, an experimental check dam(ECD, 300 m3), located in the Gilbu es desertification site, Brazil, was monitored hourly during one hydrological year(July 2018-July 2019). Measurements show that the annual volumetric decline of the check dam was 12%; and that the average trap efficiency equaled 86%. Only 9.5% of the hourly sediment concentration outflow exceeded the average plus one standard deviation, showing that the reservoir is well mixed; a fact which highlights the relevance of the resuspension process. Three empirical models failed to mimic the experimental results: Churchill(TE = 99%), Brune(TE = 75%), and Maryland(TE = 94%). According to the RETSED entropy model, the resuspension probability during the experiment was 10%and TE = 81%, a value only 6% below the measured one. The Camp model simulated TE = 89%, only 3%higher than the measured value, but confirmed the Camp model’s tendency to overestimate TE due to a disregard of resuspension. The deterministic model showed low sensitivity concerning the hydrodynamic effects, whereas the entropy formulation proved to be more consistent with physical behavior: the resuspension probability clearly increased and trap efficiency decreased with rising reservoir discharge.

Cast irons with some kinds of cementite with different chromium and vanadium contents were character- ized. Fracture toughness was determined by using an indentation technique, along with microhardness and elastic modulus. The results show that at the load of 1 N, microhardness of the cementite with 5.1% Cr is 10.53 GPa, the microhardness for cementite with 9.2% Cr increased to 11.25 GPa and for cementite with 4.5% V the microhard- ness is 9.18 GPa. The cementite with 9.2% Cr presented the highest elastic modulus of 230.4 GPa and the cement- ire with 4% V presented the lowest value of 201.32 GPa. Cementite with 5.1% Cr presented higher fracture tough- ness than cementite with 9.2% Cr; however, cementite with 4.5% V presented the highest fracture toughness of 2.74 MPa ·m1/2 and the lowest brittleness index of 3.35 μm-1/2.

Coastal zones, with their significant geodiversity, are vital areas for geotourism. Effective management is crucial to harness the geological interest of these sites as geotourism resources while ensuring their conservation. ManabíProvince is one of the most representative regions along the Ecuadorian coast due to its beaches and coastal cliffs, offering a wealth of tourist attractions and cultural elements. This study aims to evaluate the geosite potential of six cliffs in ManabíProvince through quantitative and qualitative analyses to propose geotourism promotion strategies. The methodology involves (i) inventory and characterisation of the cliffs, (ii) assessment of the sites by the Spanish Inventory of Places of Geological Interest method (IELIG), and (iii) qualitative evaluation through focus group discussions and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. The results reveal that all six sites boast diverse geological assets, including geomorphological, stratigraphic, sedimentological, and tectonic elements. They are characterised by “high ”scientific, didactic, and tourist interest, while also being sus- ceptible to degradation due to natural and anthropic threats. The SWOT analysis demonstrates that the valuable geological and geomorphological heritage of potential geosites provides an opportunity to foster geotourism and boost the province’s economy, incorporating geoconservation and geoeducation strategies. This study proposes a georoute called “Ruta Acantilados del Sol ”, a 245 km journey encompassing all six sites, incorporating diverse tourist and cultural activities. Our research lays the foundation for fostering geotourism along the Manabícoast and strengthening the connection between nature, heritage, and the welfare of residents within a global resilience plan.

This study estimates job creation from Costa Rica's transition to net-zero emissions by 2050,contrasting it with a business-as-usual scenario(BAU)using employment multipliers from Costa Rica's input-output *** model is soft-linked with a bottom-up technology-rich regional model of the CLEW sectors in Costa Rica.A robust decision-making-inspired approach is taken to assess the effects of uncertainty on the *** study addresses a literature gap in modeling subnational employment while accounting for long-term uncertainty and allows to identify economic activities affected by the transformation,so that policies regarding a just transition can be properly developed and stakeholders incentivized to take active participation in the *** baseline assumptions,a net-zero economy would have 135 thousand more jobs by 2050 than the BAU,equivalent to 7%of the employed population in ***-related jobs would triple by mid-21st century,and regions capitalizing on renewables would perceive the highest *** considering uncertainty,the net jobs range between 35-750 *** net positive outcomes in terms of jobs are feasible,global governance should focus efforts on policies that enhance these.

The implementation of numerical methods to solve and study equations for cardiac wave propagation in realistic geometries is very costly,in terms of computational *** aim of this work is to show the improvement that can be obtained with Chebyshev polynomials-based methods over the classical finite difference schemes to obtain numerical solutions of cardiac *** this end,we present a Chebyshev multidomain(CMD)Pseudospectral method to solve a simple two variable cardiac models on threedimensional anisotropic media and we show the usefulness of the method over the traditional finite differences scheme widely used in the literature.

Punctual mutations in 23S rRNA gene of clarithromycinresistant Helicobacter pylori in Colombian populations

AIM To characterize punctual mutations in 23S rRNA gene of clarithromycin-resistant Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) and determine their association with therapeutic *** PCR products of 23S rRNA gene V domain of 74 H. pylori isolates; 34 resistant to clarithromycin(29 from a low-risk gastric cancer(GC) population: TumacoColombia, and 5 from a high-risk population: TuquerresColombia) and 40 from a susceptible population(28 from Tumaco and 12 from Túquerres) were sequenced using capillary electrophoresis. The concordance between mutations of V domain 23S rRNA gene of H. pylori and therapeutic failure was determined using the Kappa coefficient and Mc Nemar's test was performed to determine the relationship between H. pylori mutationsand clarithromycin ***23S rRNA gene from H. pylori was amplified in 56/74 isolates, of which 25 were resistant to clarithromycin(20 from Tumaco and 5 from Túquerres, respectively). In 17 resistant isolates(13 from Tumaco and 4 from Túquerres) the following mutations were found: A1593 T1, A1653 G2, C1770 T, C1954 T1, and G1827 C in isolates from Tumaco, and A2144 G from Túquerres. The mutations T2183 C, A2144 G and C2196 T in H. pylori isolates resistant to clarithromycin from Colombia are reported for the first time. No association between the H. pylori mutations and in vitro clarithromycin resistance was found. However, therapeutic failure of eradication treatment was associated with mutations of 23S rRNA gene in clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori(κ = 0.71).CONCLUSION The therapeutic failure of eradication treatment in the two populations from Colombia was associated with mutations of the 23S rRNA gene in clarithromycinresistant H. pylori.

Background:Flowerpiercers(Diglossa)are traditionally considered as“parasites”of the pollination processes,as they can access the nectar without entering in contact with the reproductive structures of the ***,the effect of flowerpiercers seems to vary according to their behavior and the flower’s ***,in this work,we aimed to explore the floral characteristics that may determine the susceptibility to robbing and pollen transport by ***,we identified the potential types of interactions and studied interaction network ***:We collected the information of 16 ornithophilic plants regarding their floral traits and robbing ***,we captured 4 species of flowerpiercers and evaluated pollen transport(frequency and loads).We tested the correlation between floral traits,robbing frequency,and pollen ***,we used these variables in a cluster and principal component analyses to identify the potential types of ***,we analyzed and com-pared the structure of the plants-flowerpiercers interaction ***:Nectar production significantly influenced both nectar robbing and pollen *** the corolla length was only correlated to the robbing ***,we found that particular flowerpiercers species trans-ported higher loads of some plant pollen,which can be related to the differences in behavior and morphometric *** proposed the classification of five different types of plant-flowerpiercer interactions,that showed differ-ent potential mutualist or antagonist relations based on the affectation of nectar robbing and the service of pollen *** interaction networks consisted of 49 links,with 2.4 links per species,and presented indicators of a medium to high resilience,stability,and resistance(nestedness,connectance,and robustness).Also,the network presented medium to low specialization and substantial niche ***:The ecological role of
