Ultrafast 3D imaging is indispensable for visualizing complex and dynamic biological *** scanning-based techniques necessitate an inherent trade-off between acquisition speed and space-bandwidth product(SBP).Emerging single-shot 3D wide-field techniques offer a promising alternative but are bottlenecked by the synchronous readout constraints of conventional CMOS systems,thus restricting data throughput to maintain high SBP at limited frame *** address this,we introduce EventLFM,a straightforward and cost-effective system that overcomes these challenges by integrating an event camera with Fourier light field microscopy(LFM),a state-of-theart single-shot 3D wide-field imaging *** event camera operates on a novel asynchronous readout architecture,thereby bypassing the frame rate limitations inherent to conventional CMOS *** further develop a simple and robust event-driven LFM reconstruction algorithm that can reliably reconstruct 3D dynamics from the unique spatiotemporal measurements captured by *** results demonstrate that EventLFM can robustly reconstruct fast-moving and rapidly blinking 3D fluorescent samples at kHz frame ***,we highlight EventLFM’s capability for imaging of blinking neuronal signals in scattering mouse brain tissues and 3D tracking of GFP-labeled neurons in freely moving *** believe that the combined ultrafast speed and large 3D SBP offered by EventLFM may open up new possibilities across many biomedical applications.

Most demographic studies focus on numerical changes that occur within populations across ***,typically studies at an interannual scale do not provide information on the particular times of the year(particular months or seasons)when rates of survival,recruitment,or migration increase or decrease due to physiological,behavioral or ecological *** monthly or seasonal changes in demographic parameters may lead to substantial variations in population *** this study,we collected capture-mark-recapture data on 3 species of lizards of the genus Sceloporus(Sceloporus torquatus,Sceloporus grammicus and Sceloporus megalepidurus)found in ecologically similar habitats to examine potential changes in demographic rates among 3 different climatic seasons:rainy,cold-dry and warm-dry *** tested different hypotheses about the effect of these seasons on survival,recruitment of new adults,and temporary *** found that during the season with severe thermal constraints,the cold-dry season,survival of *** decreased *** also detected a considerable increase in the recruitment rate of *** during the rainy season,when these lizards are establishing territories and finding *** contrast,we found no evidence of intra-annual changes in the rate of temporary *** addition,we calculated abundance and population growth rates for each species and for each *** study represents a significant contribution to the understanding of intra-annual demographic variation in lizards.

Slacklining and stroke: A rehabilitation case study considering balance and lower limb weakness

To ascertain the effectiveness of slacklining as a supplementary therapy for elderly stroke patients who are functionally non-progressing. This case study involved an 18-mo prospective observation of the management of an 87-year-old female stroke-patient of the left hemisphere with reduced balance, reduced lower limb muscular activation, hypertonia, and concurrent postural deficits. This entailed the initial acute care phase through to discharge to home and 18-mo final status in her original independent living setting. The introduction of slacklining as an adjunct therapy was made 12 mo post incident. Slacklining involves balance retention on a tightened band where external environmental changes cause a whole-body dynamic response to retain equilibrium. It is a complex neuromechanical task enabling individualized self-developed response strategies to be learned and adapted. This facilitates the innate process of balance retention, lower-limb and core muscle activation, and stable posture through a combination of learned motor skills and neurological system down regulation. Individuals adopt and follow established sequential motor learning stages where the acquired balance skillsare achieved in a challenging composite-chain activity. Slacklining could be considered an adjunct therapy for lower limb stroke rehabilitation where function is compromised due to decreased muscle recruitment, decreased postural control and compromised balance. Initial inpatient rehabilitation involved one-month acute-care, one-month rehabilitation, and one-month transitional care prior to home discharge. A further six months of intensive outpatient rehabilitation was provided with five hourly sessions per week including:supervised and self-managed hydrotherapy, plus one individual and two group falls' prevention sessions. The atomic and electronic structure of graphene synthesized on commercially available cubic-SiC（001）/Si（001） wafers have been studied by low energy electron microscopy （LEEM）, scanning tunneling microscopy （STM）, low energy electron diffraction （LEED）, and angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy （ARPES）. LEEM and STM data prove the wafer-scale continuity and uniform thickness of the graphene overlayer on SIC（001）. LEEM, STM and ARPES studies reveal that the graphene overlayer on SIC（001） consists of only a few monolayers with physical properties of quasi-freestanding graphene. Atomically resolved STM and micro-LEED data show that the top graphene layer consists of nanometer-sized domains with four different lattice orientations connected through the 〈110〉-directed boundaries. ARPES studies reveal the typical electron spectrum of graphene with the Dirac points close to the Fermi level. Thus, the use of technologically relevant SiC（001）/Si（001） wafers for graphene fabrication repre-sents a realistic way of bridging the gap between the outstanding properties of graphene and their applications.
