The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection(GRAND) is a planned large-scale observatory of ultra-high-energy(UHE) cosmic particles, with energies exceeding 10~8 Ge V. Its goal is to solve the long-standing mystery of the origin of UHE cosmic rays. To do this, GRAND will detect an unprecedented number of UHE cosmic rays and search for the undiscovered UHE neutrinos and gamma rays associated to them with unmatched sensitivity. GRAND will use large arrays of antennas to detect the radio emission coming from extensive air showers initiated by UHE particles in the atmosphere. Its design is modular: 20 separate, independent sub-arrays, each of 10000 radio antennas deployed over 10000 km~2. A staged construction plan will validate key detection techniques while achieving important science goals early. Here we present the science goals, detection strategy, preliminary design, performance goals, and construction plans for GRAND.

The objective of this study was to determine the degree of citizen participation in urban planning processes in the municipality of Comala,Colima,Mexico to have a broader vision of the citizens and the environment in which they live.An instrument was designed specifically to perform this study and the instrument was validated by calculating Cronbach’s Alpha.The results showed that citizens were highly involved in issues concerning their urban environment,and the main problems of the public spaces were also identified.

Background Optimising the immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines to improve their protection against disease is necessary.Fractional dosing by intradermal(ID)administration has been shown to be equally immunogenic as intramuscular(IM)administration for several vaccines,but the immunogenicity of ID inactivated whole severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)at the full dose is unknown.This study(NCT04800133)investigated the superiority of antibody and T-cell responses of full-dose CoronaVac by ID over IM administration in adolescents.Methods Participants aged 11–17 years received two doses of IM or ID vaccine,followed by the 3rd dose 13–42 days later.Humoral and cellular immunogenicity outcomes were measured post-dose 2(IM-CC versus ID-CC)and post-dose 3(IMCCC versus ID-CCC).Doses 2 and 3 were administered to 173 and 104 adolescents,respectively.Results Spike protein(S)immunoglobulin G(IgG),S-receptor-binding domain(RBD)IgG,S IgG Fcγreceptor IIIa(FcγRIIIa)-binding,SNM[sum of individual(S),nucleocapsid protein(N),and membrane protein(M)peptide pool]-specific interleukin-2(IL-2)+CD4+,SNM-specific IL-2+CD8+,S-specific IL-2+CD8+,N-specific IL-2+CD4+,N-specific IL-2+CD8+and M-specific IL-2+CD4+responses fulfilled the superior and non-inferior criteria for ID-CC compared to IM-CC,whereas IgG avidity was inferior.For ID-CCC,S-RBD IgG,surrogate virus neutralisation test,90%plaque reduction neutralisation titre(PRNT90),PRNT50,S IgG avidity,S IgG FcγRIIIa-binding,M-specific IL-2+CD4+,interferon-γ+CD8+and IL-2+CD8+responses were superior and non-inferior to IM-CCC.The estimated vaccine efficacies were 49%,52%,66%and 79%for IM-CC,ID-CC,IM-CCC and ID-CCC,respectively.The ID groups reported more local,mild adverse reactions.Conclusion This is the first study to demonstrate superior antibody and M-specific T-cell responses by ID inactivated SARSCoV-2 vaccination and serves as the basis for future research to improve the immunogenicity of inactivated vaccines.

Size effects on the tensile strength and fracture toughness of granitic rock in different tests

This study investigates the tensile failure mechanisms in granitic rock samples at different scales by means of different types of tests.To do that,we have selected a granitic rock type and obtained samples of different sizes with the diameter ranging from 30 mm to 84 mm.The samples have been subjected to direct tensile strength(DTS)tests,indirect Brazilian tensile strength(BTS)tests and to two fracture toughness testing approaches.Whereas DTS and fracture toughness were found to consistently grow with sample size,this trend was not clearly identified for BTS,where after an initial grow,a plateau of results was observed.This is a rather complete database of tensile related properties of a single rock type.Even if similar databases are rare,the obtained trends are generally consistent with previous scatter and partial experimental programs.However,different observations apply to different types of rocks and experimental approaches.The differences in variability and mean values of the measured parameters at different scales are critically analysed based on the heterogeneity,granular structure and fracture mechanics approaches.Some potential relations between parameters are revised and an indication is given on potential sample sizes for obtaining reliable results.Extending this database with different types of rocks is thought to be convenient to advance towards a better understanding of the tensile strength of rock materials.

This review is intended to cover the works related to the anthocyanin behavior in food that is subjected to drying.Both experimental and theoretical results available in scientific literature are discussed.An increase in anthocyanin concentration has been observed upon thermal processing.Nevertheless,a conclusive explanation is still unavailable.The accessible studies suggest an increase in concentration during maturations,which could be related to the enzymatic activity.The possible enzymes involved in such a procedure have also been covered,including their role played in the process.The possible activation mechanisms and the related factors such as temperature,pH,oxygen contents and the presence of UV-light irradiation were also considered.Moreover,the metabolic pathways were also explored including experimental evaluation and theoretical models based on atomistic methodologies such as density functional theory(DFT).This review is aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the probable mechanisms behind the increase of anthocyanin concentration during drying.

Donor risk factors in pancreas transplantation

The aim of the work was to analyze and expose the donor and recipient riskfactors in pancreas transplantation. In the following paper, we exposed the 2018Spanish Consensus Document on Donor and Recipient Selection Criteria forPancreas Transplantation. An assessment of the previous Selection Criteria forDonors and Recipients of Pancreas Transplantation, published in 2005 by theSpanish Pancreas Transplant Group (GETP) and the National TransplantOrganization (ONT) was performed. A literature review was performed usingCochrane Library, PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Some of the followingterms were used for the literature search: “Diabetes Mellitus,” “PancreasTransplantation,” “Insulin-Secreting Cells,” “Pancreas Allograft Thrombosis,”“Allograft Pancreatitis,” “Donors’ Risk Factors,” “Recipients’ Risk Factors,”“Pancreas Allograft Rejection” and “Pancreas Allograft Survival.” After anextended search, different inclusion criteria were established. Articles anddocuments with abstracts of full text and in English or Spanish language wereselected. Subsequently, different scientific meetings took place during 2015 and2016 by the GETP. Finally, the updated criteria were published by the GETP andONT in 2018. Several risk factors have been described in pancreas transplantationthat can be divided into donor risk factors: Advanced age (> 50 years);high bodymass index (BMI) (> 30 kg/m2);cause of death (e.g., stroke);previoushyperglycemia;hyperamylasemia;cold ischemia time (greater than 8 or 12 h,depending on the type of donation);the use of vasopressors in the intensive careunit or cardiac arrest;and the macroscopic aspect of the pancreas allograft. Thefollowing are recipient risk factors: Advanced age (> 50 years);active smoking;high BMI (> 30 kg/m2);and peripheral artery disease or sensorimotorpolyneuropathy. Based on the aforementioned parameters, different selectioncriteria have been established for the recipients depending on the type of pancreastransplantation. We studied the influence of antimony on the modification rate of the silicon eutectic with sodium and/or strontium for castiig of A1-Si alloys, and introduced controlled Ca and Sb to the system and studied the resulting compounds, which were determined to be CazSb and A1Sb. Scanning electron microscopy together with the complementary technique of electron backscatter diffraction （EBSD） were used to characterize the materials. The experimental results provided the basis for us to establish that antimony removal from AI occurs mainly through the reaction （Sb）A1 ＋ 2Ca = Ca^Sb ＋ A1.
