Annual growth of Fagus orientalis is limited by spring drought conditions in Iran’s Golestan Province

Due to the lack of a uniform and accurate defi-nition of‘drought’,several indicators have been introduced based on different variables and methods,and the efficiency of each of these is determined according to their relationship with drought.The relationship between two drought indices,SPI(standardized precipitation index)and SPEI(standard-ized precipitation-evapotranspiration index)in different sea-sons was investigated using annual rings of 15 tree samples to determine the effect of drought on the growth of oriental beech(Fagus orientalis Lipsky)in the Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran.The different evapotranspiration calcula-tion methods were evaluated on SPEI efficiency based on Hargreaves-Samani,Thornthwaite,and Penman-Monteith methods using the step-by-step M5 decision tree regression method.The results show that SPEI based on the Penman-Monteith in a three-month time scale(spring)had similar temporal changes and a better relationship with annual tree rings(R^(2)=0.81)at a 0.05 significant level.Abrupt change and a decreasing trend in the time series of annual tree rings are similar to the variation in the SPEI based on the Penman-Monteith method.Factors affecting evapotranspiration,temperature,wind speed,and sunshine hours(used in the Penman-Monteith method),increased but precipitation decreased.Using non-linear modeling methods,SPEI based on Penman-Monteith best illustrated climate changes affecting tree growth.

Pollen morphology and trichome types of Betula spp. in the Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran

Pollen and trichome morphology of the genus Betula were evaluated from three main habitats in Iran using light and electron microscopy.Pollen types were identical and tri-porate;however,in terms of quantitative data,some differences were observed in exine(outside)wall thickness,length of polar axis and length of equatorial axis,possibly due to the environment.Pollen alone is insufficient to separate species of Iranian birch.Investigation of the trichome trait(small hairs or other outgrowths)revealed that birch species in Iran belong to:(1)Betula litwinowii Doluch.according to the low density of trichomes on the adaxial surface of the leaves and the lack of trichomes on the abaxial surface and many trichomes on the petioles;(2)Betula pendula Roth.due to the absence of trichomes on the adaxial surface and the low density of trichomes on the abaxial surface;and,(3)in the adaxial and abaxial surfaces of leaves and petioles,the trichomes had different types of pilose(long,soft hairs),and this strengthens the possibility of a different species or more likely a hybrid of B.pendula.

Improving the Surface Roughness of Dental Implant Fixture by Considering the Size,Angle and Spraying Pressure of Sandblast Particles

In this study,different conditions of sandblasting on dental implant fixtures were investigated to achieve the best sandblasting conditions.18 different sandblasting conditions(Using 152 implant fixture samples)were examined,including parameters such as particle size,particle blasting pressure,and particle blasting angle.The surface treatment of the samples was performed using the SLA+Anodizing method.AFM testing was performed for each of the 18 different states,and the average surface roughness of each of these was compared with each other.Then,a bone layer was placed on the sample with the closest average surface roughness to the standard and the least amount of aluminum oxide on its surface among the 18 different states,to confirm the accuracy and quality of the desired surface roughness by examining the bone formation process and speed.The results showed that state No.4(sandblast particle size:75µm,spraying pressure of sandblast particles:4 bar,sandblast particle spraying angle:30 degrees),which was prepared using the SLA+Anodizing method and had a surface roughness of 1.989µm(The percentage of Al_(2)O_(3)on the surface=6%),had the best sandblasting conditions and showed 95%cell viability and accelerated the treatment and bone formation process for about a week.The simulation results,using Abaqus software,indicated that the stress distribution on the surface of the implant fixture in contact with the bone surface has increased by approximately 4.3%for state No.4.This will help prevent loosening of the dental implant fixture over time.

Approximate solution of Volterra-Fredholm integral equations using generalized barycentric rational interpolant

It is well-known that interpolation by rational functions results in a more accurate approximation than the polynomials interpolation.However,classical rational interpolation has some deficiencies such as uncontrollable poles and low convergence order.In contrast with the classical rational interpolants,the generalized barycentric rational interpolants which depend linearly on the interpolated values,yield infinite smooth approximation with no poles in real numbers.In this paper,a numerical collocation approach,based on the generalized barycentric rational interpolation and Gaussian quadrature formula,was introduced to approximate the solution of Volterra-Fredholm integral equations.Three types of points in the solution domain are used as interpolation nodes.The obtained numerical results confirm that the barycentric rational interpolants are efficient tools for solving Volterra-Fredholm integral equations.Moreover,integral equations with Runge’s function as an exact solution,no oscillation occurrs in the obtained approximate solutions so that the Runge’s phenomenon is avoided.

Design of a Novel Electrochemical Aptasensor Based on Molybdenum Disulfide Nanosheets for Lysozyme Detection

The precise detection of lysozyme plays a crucial role in early diagnosis of kidney failure in leukemia patients.Herein,we designed an electrochemical aptasensor to detect lysozyme using a glassy carbon electrode(GCE)modified with molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))nanosheets decorated with chitosan(Ch)and gold nanoparticles(Au).In the next steps of aptasensor preparation,aptamer(Apt)strands were immobilized on MoS_(2)-Au-Ch/GCE surface via electrostatic interactions,and bovine serum albumin(BSA)solution was applied to cover unbonded areas on Apt/MoS_(2)-Au-Ch/GCE.The MoS_(2)-Au-Ch nanocomposite can warrant enhanced immobilization of aptamers and strong signals because of wrinkle-like structure and base planes in MoS nanosheets,presence of abundant amino and carboxyl functional groups in chitosan and Au nanoparticles.Differential pulse voltammetry(DPV)was used to evaluate the electrochemical behavior of the aptasensor at each preparation step and its detection performance.The developed electrochemical aptasensor based on MoS nanosheets showed remarkable performance for lysozyme detection in the range from 1 pmol/L to 10 nmol/L with a limit of detection of 2.2 fmol/L.The proposed aptasensor provided excellent selectivity against BSA,uric acid,cytochrome C,lysozyme and their mixture.In addition,it displayed great stability of about 99.58%of the initial signal upon 21-day storage.Tests on human serum and urine samples yielded promising recoveries ranging from 98 to 105%.Hence,MoS_(2)-Au-Ch nanocomposite-based aptasensor could be an outstanding candidate for medical device applications and protein quantification.

采用十二烷基硫酸钠(SDS)表面活性剂和SiO_(2)纳米颗粒作为发泡体系,在不同原油沥青质含量下进行泡沫稳定性实验,测量CO_(2)泡沫半衰期;采用扫描电子显微图像、紫外分光光度法测试和Zeta电位测量,分析沥青质降低CO_(2)泡沫稳定性的机理。研究表明:当合成油与发泡体系质量比为1∶9时,合成油沥青质质量分数从0增至15%,SDS稳定泡沫半衰期从751 s减少至239 s,SDS-SiO_(2)稳定泡沫半衰期从912 s缩短至298 s;当合成油与发泡体系质量比为2∶8时,随着沥青质质量分数增大,SDS稳定泡沫半衰期从526 s缩短至171 s,SDS-SiO_(2)稳定泡沫半衰期从660 s缩短至205 s。由于沥青质与SDS和SiO_(2)纳米颗粒在水相中的相互作用,Zeta电位绝对值减小,颗粒表面电荷降低,导致薄液膜两侧界面之间的排斥力减小,从而破坏泡沫稳定性。

Unfavorable environmental cues severely affect crop productivity resulting in significant economic losses to farmers. In plants, multiple regulatory genes, such as the WRKY transcription factor (TF) family, modulate the expression of defense genes. However, the role of the pineapple WRKY genes is poorly understood. Here, we studied the pineapple WRKY gene, AcWRKY28, by generating AcWRKY28 over-expressing transgenic pineapple plants. Overexpression of AcWRKY28 enhanced the salt stress resistance in transgenic pineapple lines. Comparative transcriptome analysis of transgenic and wild-type pineapple plants showed that “plant-pathogen interaction” pathway genes, including 9calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs), were up-regulated in AcWRKY28 over-expressing plants. Furthermore, chromatin immunoprecipitation and yeast one-hybrid assays revealed AcCPK12, AcCPK3, AcCPK8, AcCPK1, and AcCPK15 as direct targets of AcWRKY28. Consistently, the study of AcCPK12 over-expressing Arabidopsis lines showed that AcCPK12 enhances salt, drought, and disease resistance. This study shows that AcWRKY28 plays a crucial role in promoting salt stress resistance by activating the expression of AcCPK genes.

Pure annihilation decay of strange beauty meson into two charm heavy mesons

In this study,the heavy to heavy decay of D^(0)_(s)→D^(*+)D^(-)is evaluated through the factorization approach by using the final state interaction as an effective correction.Under the factorization approach,this decay mode occurs only through the annihilation process,so a small amount is produced.Feynman's rules state that six meson pairs can be assumed for the intermediate states before the final meson pairs are produced.By taking into account the effects of twelve final state interaction diagrams in the calculations,a significant correction is obtained.These effects correct the value of the branching ratio obtained by the pure factorization approach from(2.41±1.37)×10^(-5)to(8.27土2.23)×10^(-5).The value obtained for the branching ratio of the D^(0)_(s)→D^(*+)D^(-)decay is consistent with the experimental results.

Gastrointestinal viral shedding in children with SARS‑CoV‑2:a systematic review and meta‑analysis

Background Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has diferent manifestations in pediatric cases.It is assumed that they might present more gastrointestinal symptoms with a diferent viral shedding pattern in gastrointestinal samples.In this systematic review and meta-analysis,we aimed to evaluate the viral shedding pattern in gastrointestinal specimens of children with COVID-19.Methods We searched all published studies in English language in PubMed,Web of Science,and Scopus,up to date as of October 2021.Our search included the term"severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,COVID-19,SARS-CoV-2,novel coronavirus,or coronavirus;and shed,excrete,secret,or carriage;and stool or rectal;and children or pediatrics".We included studies evaluating SARS-CoV-2 shedding in gastrointestinal specimens,including rectal swabs and stool samples of children with COVID-19 infection.We excluded duplicated data,case reports,and studies without original data.Results Twelve studies met the eligibility criteria for the qualitative synthesis,10 of which were included in the meta-analysis.The pooled prevalence of gastrointestinal severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)RNA in children with COVID-19 was 86%(95%confdence interval 73%–96%,I 2=62.28%).After respiratory specimen had become negative,72%(43/60)had persistent shedding in gastrointestinal specimens.The gastrointestinal RNA had a positive test result for more than 70 days after symptoms onset.Conclusions Gastrointestinal shedding of SARS-CoV-2 might occur in a substantial portion of children and might persist long after negative respiratory testing.Further research is recommended to fnd the role of SARS-CoV-2 gastrointestinal shedding in transmission in children.

Numerical evaluation of the use of vegetation as a shelterbelt for enhancing the wind and thermal comfort in peripheral and lateral-type skygardens in highrise buildings

Skygardens or skycourts are a unique architectural intervention in the built environment,enhancing the social,economic,and environmental values of the building.It allows occupants to connect and experience outdoor freshness within a semi-enclosed environment.However,skygardens located on a highrise building may generate intense wind gusts,endangering the safety of occupants.Using a validated computational fluid dynamics model,this study investigates the potential of various vegetative barriers or shelterbelts in attenuating the high wind speeds encountered in such spaces and the impact on wind and thermal comfort.Three skygarden configurations were investigated with and without vegetative barriers,simplified and modelled as porous zones,and their effect was studied on the velocity and temperature profile at the occupants’level.The results indicate that while hedges and trees can offer resistance to airflow,trees provide higher temperature reduction.However,a combination of vegetative and geometrical barriers provides the most optimal condition in the skygarden.The study has identified the importance of assessing wind attenuation characteristics of tree plantations on highrise skygarden,and the results can be used in designing intervention strategies.Moreover,vegetation can attenuate pollutants and mitigate poor air quality by surface deposition,and future studies should investigate in that direction.
