The development,production and utilization of renewable energy,energy storage and green hydrogen and the associated technologies in Sri Lanka have great potential to contribute to the united Nations’Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).The island aims to achieve 70%electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2030(within the target of 40%utilization of renewable energy sources for the entire energy generation of the country by 2030).The power sector has to invest US$11 billion from 2023 to 2030 to contribute to reaching this *** commentary aims to provide a critical perspective on the recommendations of the report from the National Science and Technology Commission’s 9th biennial conference in 2023 on science and technology,the sub-thematic technical report on clean energy,energy storage and green hydrogen in line with the SDGs in the Sri Lankan *** technical report provides insightful recommendations for Sri Lanka’s energy sector under three main sections:renewable energy,energy storage and green ***,it explores the potential of various renewable energy sources,energy storage systems and green hydrogen as sustainable solutions to address the country’s energy challenges while emphasizing the spillover effects of them,which could contribute to the enterprise’s job creation and uplift the economy.

BACkGROunD The four components that make up the current dual-mobility artificial hip joint design are the femoral head,the inner liner,the outer liner as a metal cover to prevent wear,and the acetabular *** acetabular cup and the outer liner were constructed of 316L stainless *** the same time,the inner liner was made of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene(UHmWPE).As this new dual-mobility artificial hip joint has not been researched extensively,more tribological research is needed to predict *** thickness of the inner liner is a significant component to consider when calculating the contact *** To make use of finite element analysis to gain a better understanding of the contact behavior in various inner liner thicknesses on a new model of a dual-mobility artificial hip joint,with the ultimate objective of determining the inner liner thickness that was most suitable for this particular type of dual-mobility artificial hip *** In this study,the size of the femoral head was compared between two diameters(28 mm and 36 mm)and eight inner liner thicknesses ranging from 5 mm to 12 *** the finite element method,the contact parameters,including the maximum contact pressure and contact area,have been evaluated in light of the Hertzian contact *** simulation was performed statically with dissipated energy and asymmetric *** types of interaction were surface-to-surface contact and normal contact *** The maximum contact pressures in the inner liner(UHmWPE)at a head diameter of 28 mm and 36 mm are between 3.7-13.5 mPa and 2.7-10.4 mPa,*** maximum von mises of the inner liner,outer liner,and acetabular cup are 2.4–11.4 mPa,15.7–44.3 mPa,and 3.7–12.6 mPa,respectively,for 28 mm *** the maximum von mises stresses of the 36 mm head are 1.9-8.9 mPa for the inner liner,9.9-32.8 mPa for the outer liner,and 2.6-9.9 mPa for the acetabular cup.A head with a diameter of 28 mm should have an inner line

Enhancement of phosphors-solubility in ZnO by thermal annealing

We have demonstrated the effect of annealing temperature on the diffusion density of phosphors in zinc oxide. The P-dopant P430 was sprayed on ZnO pellets and annealed at different temperatures from 500 to 1000 ℃ with a step of 100 ℃ for one hour using a programmable furnace. The concentration of P was controlled by varying the annealing temperature and the maximum solubility of P （3% At） was achieved at annealing 800 ℃ determined by energy dispersive X-ray diffraction （EDX） measurements. X-ray diffraction （XRD） confirmed the hexagonal structure of ZnO and showed that the growth direction was along the c-axis. We observed a maximum up shift in the （002） plane at an annealing temperature of 800 ℃, suggesting that P atoms replaced Zn atoms in the structure which results in the reduction of the lattice constant. Room temperature photoluminescence （PL） spectrum consists of a peak at 3.28 eV and related to band edge emission, but samples annealed at 800 and 900 ℃ have an additional donor acceptor pair peak at 3.2 eV. Hall effect measurements confirmed the p-type conductivity of the sample annealed at 800 ℃.

Vegetable oil production from oil palm(Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)is an important industry due to the rising demand every *** somatic embryogenesis culture can propagate oil palm duplicate as parent plant,which can be selected as breeding material to produce new planting germplasm with high production or disease *** study aims to evaluate the genotypic effect of somatic embryogenesis,while immature leaflets were employed as *** culture used embryo induction medium based on murashige and Skoog(mS)modifications that contained 5 mg/L Naphthalene Acetic acid(NAA)and 0.5 mg/L Benzyl Amino Purine(BAP).The genotypic effect was statistically significant in the percentage of callus induction,producing somatic embryos,and germination *** this study,we successfully cloned thirteen oil palm genotypes(GE-02,GE-03,GE-06,GE-07,GE-09,GE-23,GE-24,GE-27,GE-28,GE-32,GE-33,GE-34,and GE-35),with the highest number of somatic embryos formed on GE-27 with a percentage of 70.1%.The cloning was successful in accelerating the propagation of oil palm for materials breeding programs to create new varieties with high production and disease *** is necessary to observation the performance of these clones in the field in terms of mantle flower appearance.

We investigate the impact of Ni insertion on the structural,optical,and magnetic properties of Ba_(0.8)La_(0.2)Fe_(12-x)Ni_(x)O_(19)hexaferrites(Ni substituted La-Bam hexaferrites).Samples were prepared using the conventional co-precipitation method and sintered at 1000℃for 4 hours to assist the crystallization *** analysis of the structure of the samples was carried out using an x-ray diffraction(XRD)*** m-type hexagonal structure of all the samples was confirmed using XRD *** lattice parameters a and c were found to be in the ranges of 5.8925±0.001 nm–5.8952±0.001 nm and 23.2123±0.001 nm–23.2219±0.001 nm,*** m-type hexagonal nature of the prepared samples was also indicated by the presence of corresponding FT-IR bands and Raman modes in the FT-IR and Raman spectra,*** results confirmed the successful synthesis of the samples according to the required stoichiometric ratio.A UV-vis spectrometer was used to record the absorption spectra of the prepared samples in the wavelength range of 200 nm–1100 *** optical energy bandgap of the samples was found to be in the range of 1.21 eV–3.39 *** m–H loops of the samples were measured at room temperature at an applied magnetic field range of 0 kOe–60 kOe.A high saturation magnetization of 99.92 emu/g was recorded in the sample with x=0 at a microwave operating frequency of 22.2 *** high value of saturation magnetization is due to the substitution of La3+ions at the spin-up(12k,2a,and 2b)*** Ni substitution is proven to be a potential candidate for the tuning of the optical and magnetic parameters of m-type ***,we suggest that the prepared samples are suitable for use in magneto-optic applications.

It is critical to regulate the senescence-associated secretory phenotype(SASP) due to its effect on promoting malignant phenotypes and limiting the efficiency of cancer therapy. In this study, we demonstrated that marchantin m(mar-m, a naturally occurring bisbibenzyl) suppressed proinflammatory SASP components which were elevated in chemotherapy-resistant cells. mar-m treatment attenuated the pro-tumorigenic effects of SASP and enhanced survival in drug-resistant mouse *** toxicity was detected on normal fibroblast cells or in animals following this treatment. Inactivation of transcription factor EB(TFEB) and nuclear factor-k B(NF-k B) by mar-m significantly accounted for its suppression on the components of SASP. Furthermore, inhibition of SASP by mar-m contributed to a synergistic effect during co-treatment with doxorubicin to lower toxicity and enhance antitumor efficacy. Thus, chemotherapy-driven pro-inflammatory activity, seen to contribute to drug-resistance, is an important target for mar-m. By decreasing SASP, mar-m may be a potential approach to overcome tumor malignancy.

k-P-Burgers equation in negative ion-rich relativistic dusty plasma including the effect of kinematic viscosity

The stationary solution is obtained for the k–P–Burgers equation that describes the nonlinear propagations of dust ion acoustic waves in a multi-component, collisionless, un-magnetized relativistic dusty plasma consisting of electrons, positive and negative ions in the presence of charged massive dust grains. Here, the kadomtsev–Petviashvili(k–P) equation, threedimensional(3D) Burgers equation, and k–P–Burgers equations are derived by using the reductive perturbation method including the effects of viscosity of plasma fluid, thermal energy, ion density, and ion temperature on the structure of a dust ion acoustic shock wave(DIASW). The k–P equation predictes the existences of stationary small amplitude solitary wave,whereas the k–P–Burgers equation in the weakly relativistic regime describes the evolution of shock-like structures in such a multi-ion dusty plasma.

We study the nonlinear propagation of dust-ion acoustic(DIA) shock waves in an un-magnetized dusty plasma which consists of electrons, both positive and negative ions and negatively charged immobile dust grains. Starting from a set of hydrodynamic equations with the ion thermal pressures and ion kinematic viscosities included, and using a standard reductive perturbation method, the kadomtsev–Petviashivili–Burgers(k-P-Burgers) equation is derived, which governs the evolution of DIA shocks. A stationary solution of the k-P-Burgers equation is obtained and its properties are analysed with different plasma number densities, ion temperatures and masses. It is shown that a transition from shocks with negative potential to positive one occurs depending on the negative ion concentration in the plasma and the obliqueness of propagation of DIA waves.

Genetic dissection of maternal influence on in vivo haploid induction in maize

In vivo haploid induction based on maternal haploid inducers is the first step in deriving completely homozygous maize doubled haploid(DH) lines. Haploid induction rate(HIR) is influenced by both pollen parent inducing haploidy and the maternal source germplasm used in induction crosses. This study was aimed at analyzing the influence of source germplasm on HIR using 671 tropical inbred lines organized in two association mapping panels. These two association mapping panels(AmP1 and AmP2) were crossed to two different Tropically Adapted Inducer Lines(TAILs). For HIR assessment, seeds from induction crosses were planted in the field and ploidy status of each surviving plant was assessed using a gold standard classification based on visual differences between the haploid and diploid plants. The analysis revealed significant variation for HIR and led to identification of several tropical inbred lines that respond very positively to haploid induction. Use of HIR data in a genome wide association study(GWAS) led to identification of twenty-seven and two SNPs that were significantly associated with HIR in AmP1 and AmP2,respectively. meta-analysis of AmP1 and AmP2 GWAS led to identification of 52 SNPs with significant effect on HIR across both studies. Genome-wide prediction revealed moderate to high prediction accuracy within AmPs using random SNPs. Inclusion of the SNPs detected in GWAS into the prediction model led to improvement in prediction accuracy. Overall, the study revealed that the maternal influence on HIR is controlled by a few moderate and many small effect QTL.

In this research,un-doped CeO_(2) and Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)mO_(0.05)O_(2)(m:Sm,Er,Y) compounds were synthesized by hydrothermal method and the multi-functional properties are *** defects were created with the additives of rare earth *** electrical and luminescence behaviors of the synthesized compounds were investigated in accord with the types of *** synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis,Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) measurement,UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(DRS),scanning electron microscopy(SEm),photoluminescence(PL)spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic(EIS).All synthesized compounds are found to be nano-structured and have cubic *** total conductivity of all samples was ***,the total conductivity of un-doped CeO_(2),Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Y_(0.05)O_(2),Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Er_(0.05)O_(2) and Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Sm_(0.05)O_(2) is found to be 2.07×10^(-10),5.70×10^(-4),1.0×10^(-3) and 0.0747 S/cm,***,bandgap energy(E_(g)) of these samples calculated from UV visible absorption spectra is discussed,and the optical results show variation between 3.2 and 2.15 ***,the luminescence properties of the compounds were investigated and different emissions occur depending on the additive ***,photoluminescent emission spectra of Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Y_(0.05)O_(2),Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Er_(0.05)O_(2) and Ce_(0.85)La_(0.10)Sm_(0.05)O_(2) phosphors indicate that these phosphors have red,green and orange-red colors,respectively.
