The microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-x Bi(x=2,5,and 8 wt%)were investigated compared with pure *** ascast Mg-Bi billets consist of dendriticα-Mg grain matrix,divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) phase and secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) *** homogenization,secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles were all dissolved into the matrix,while most of the divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) intermetallic compounds *** the as-extruded samples exhibit fully dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and the average grain size decreases and the amount of nano-scale Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates increases with increasing Bi ***,Bi alloying has little influence on the texture of the as-extruded pure Mg,with all the samples showing typical basal *** the results of grain refinement and precipitation hardening,the strengths of the as-extruded samples increase under both tensile and compressive ***,the yield asymmetry significantly decreases with Bi ***,all the as-extruded samples represent similar ductility under compression,while the tensile elongation first increases and then decreases with more Bi *** as-extruded Mg-5Bi alloy demonstrates good combination of strength and ***,Mg-8Bi alloy displays lower tensile ductility than that of Mg-5Bi alloy due to the presence of abundant undissolved coarse Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles,which act as cracking sources during tensile ***,the strain hardening rate,strain hardening exponent n,and hardening capacity Hc are greatly reduced by Bi addition,mainly owing to the enhanced synergy effects of grain refinement and numerous Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates.

BACKGROUND Unilateral pulmonary hemorrhage is typically reported in young and healthy men with upper respiratory tract obstruction during anesthesia in special *** pressure in the lungs is created,resulting in negative pressure pulmonary edema(NPPE).CASE SUMMARY A 78-year-old male patient diagnosed with spinal stenosis was admitted to receive a unilateral laminectomy with bilateral *** patient had been diagnosed with hypertension four years earlier and asthma more than 70 years *** experienced a unilateral alveolar hemorrhage associated with NPPE that occurred in a longstanding asthma patient who bit the intubated endotracheal tube for a short period during posture change at the end of *** diffuse alveolar hemorrhage accompanied by NPPE was caused in this case by airway obstruction in an older patient with asthma without known risk factors,anesthesiologists should be careful not to induce airway irritation during anesthesia awakening in asthma *** Because diffuse alveolar hemorrhage accompanied by NPPE can occur,anesthesiologists should take care not to induce airway irritation.

BACKGROUND Owing to rarity of disease and lack of prospective studies, data supporting the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in ampulla of Vater(AoV) carcinoma is *** To evaluate whether adjuvant chemotherapy cases for AoV carcinoma had better disease-free survival(DFS) rates than cases of observation following curative *** We retrospectively analyzed the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and DFS and overall survival(OS) in patients with stage IB-Ⅲ AoV carcinoma who underwent curative surgical resection. Fluorouracil-based adjuvant chemotherapy was administered after surgery at the discretion of the physician. Adjusted multivariate regression models were used to evaluate the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and survival *** Of the total 104 patients who underwent curative surgery, 52 received adjuvant chemotherapy. Multivariate analysis revealed that higher histologic grade [hazard ratio(HR) = 2.24, P = 0.046], advanced tumor stage(HR = 1.85, P = 0.030), and vascular invasion(HR = 2.14, P = 0.010) were associated with shorter DFS. Adjuvant chemotherapy improved DFS compared to the observation group(HR =0.50, P = 0.015) and tended to be associated with a longer OS, although the difference was not statistically significant(HR = 0.58, P = 0.098).CONCLUSION Among patients with resected AoV carcinoma, the adjuvant chemotherapy group was not associated with a significant survival benefit compared to the observation group. However, on multivariate analysis adjusting for prognostic factors, adjuvant chemotherapy following surgery was an independent prognostic factor for DFS in patients with resected AoV carcinoma. Further studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy according to histologic phenotype.

Developing a universal culture platform that manipulates cell fate is one of the most important tasks in the investigation of the role of the cellular *** study focuses on the application of topographical and electrical field stimuli to human myogenic precursor cell(hMPC)cultures to assess the influences of the adherent direction,proliferation,and differentiation,and induce preconditioning-induced therapeutic ***,a topographical surface of commercially available culture dishes was achieved by femtosecond laser *** detachable biphasic electrical current system was then applied to the hMPCs cultured on laser-textured culture ***-textured topographies were remarkably effective in inducing the assembly of hMPC myotubes by enhancing the orientation of adherent hMPCs compared with flat ***,electrical field stimulation through laser-textured topographies was found to promote the expression of myogenic regulatory factors compared with nonstimulated *** such,we successfully demonstrated that the combined stimulation of topographical and electrical cues could effectively enhance the myogenic maturation of hMPCs in a surface spatial and electrical field-dependent manner,thus providing the basis for therapeutic strategies.

The content analysis of radioactive waste and radiation dose evaluation is considered as one of the important factors in the reactor facility *** kind of buildings consists of the concrete for the most part and uses it as the structure and shield of the ***,the concrete has impurities such as cobalt,europium,nickel,and cesium with specific content depending on the production method or manufacturing *** radioactive nuclides generated from the fundamental components of concrete are considered that it is less contributed to the radiation dose because they are beta decay nuclides in ***,impurities of irradiated concrete in the reactor facilities,are considered occasionally an important evaluation factor for induced *** this study,the influence on the activation of impurities in concrete was evaluated from the radiation dose and induced activity *** calculation was evaluated at the bio-shield which is one of the areas with the highest neutron irradiation among the concrete structure in the reactor *** results show that radioactive nuclides with gamma decay were produced in these ***,the radiation dose of concrete with impurities was higher than concrete without *** increased radiation dose was quantified through the content of impurities.

The examination of entanglement across various degrees of freedom has been pivotal in augmenting our understanding of fundamental physics,extending to high dimensional quantum states,and promising the scalability of quantum *** this paper,we demonstrate the photon number path entanglement in the frequency domain by implementing a frequency beam splitter that converts the single-photon frequency to another with 50%probability using Bragg scattering four-wave *** two-photon NOON state in a single-mode fiber is generated in the frequency domain,manifesting the two-photon interference with two-fold enhanced resolution compared to that of single-photon interference,showing the outstanding stability of the *** successful translation of quantum states in the frequency domain will pave the way toward the discovery of fascinating quantum phenomena and scalable quantum information processing.

AIM:To evaluate the incidence and clinical characteristics of gastric cancer(GC) in peptic ulcer patients with Helicobacter pylori(***) ***:Between January 2003 and December 2013, the medical records of patients diagnosed with GC were retrospectively *** with previous gastric ulcer(GU) and *** infection were assigned to the Hp GU-GC group(n = 86) and those with previous duodenal ulcer(DU) disease and *** infection were assigned to the Hp DUGC group(n = 35).The incidence rates of GC in the Hp GU-GC and Hp DU-GC groups were *** on demographics(age, gender, peptic ulcer complications and cancer treatment), GC clinical characteristics [location, pathological diagnosis, differentiation, T stage, Lauren's classification, atrophy of surrounding mucosa and intestinal metaplasia(IM)], outcome of eradication therapy for *** infection, esophagogastroduodenoscopy number and the duration until GC onset were *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors influencing GC *** relative risk of GC was evaluated using a Cox proportional hazards ***:The incidence rates of GC were 3.60%(86/2387) in the Hp GU-GC group and 1.66%(35/2098) in the Hp DU-GC *** annual incidence was 0.41% in the Hp GU-GC group and 0.11% in the Hp DUGC *** rates of moderate-to-severe atrophy of the surrounding mucosa and IM were higher in the Hp GU-GC group than in the Hp DU-GC group(86% vs 34.3%, respectively, and 61.6% vs 14.3%, respectively, P < 0.05).In the univariate analysis, atrophy of surrounding mucosa, IM and eradication therapy for *** infection were significantly associated with the development of GC(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in the prognosis of GC patients between the Hp GU-GC and Hp DU-GC groups(P = 0.347).The relative risk of GC development in the Hp GUGC group compared to that of the Hp DU-GC group,after correction for age and gender,was 1.71(95%CI:1.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of the 14-d moxifloxacinbased triple therapy for the second-line eradication of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) ***: Between 2011 and 2013, we conducted a retrospective review of the medical records of 160 patients who had experienced failure of their first-line proton pump inhibitor-based eradication therapy and subsequently received the moxifloxacin-based triple therapy as a second-line eradication treatment regimen. The patients who were treated with the moxifloxacinbased triple therapy(oral 20 mg rabeprazole b.i.d., 1000 mg amoxicillin b.i.d., and 400 mg moxifloxacin q.d.) for 7 d were assigned to the RAM-7 group(n = 79) while those who took them for 14 days were assigned to RAM-14 group(n = 81). The eradication rates for both groups were determined by intentionto-treat(ITT) and per-protocol(PP) analyses. ITT analysis compared the treatment groups as originally allocated while the PP analysis including only those patients who had completed the treatment as originally allocated. Successful eradication therapy for H. pylori infection was defined as the documentation of a negative 13C-urea breath test 4 wk after the end of the eradication ***: The overall ITT eradication rate was 76.2%(122/160). The final ITT eradication rates were 70.8%(56/79; 95%CI: 63.3%-77.1%) in the RAM-7 group and 81.4%(66/81; 95%CI: 74.6%-88.3%) in the RAM-14 group(P = 0.034). The overall PP eradication rate was 84.1%(122/145), and the final PP eradication rates were 77.7%(56/72; 95%CI: 70.2%-85.3%) in the RAM-7 group and 90.4%(66/73; 95%CI: 82.8%-98.1%) in the RAM-14 group(P = 0.017). The H. pylori-eradication rates in the RAM-14 group were significantly higher compared with that of the RAM-7 group according to both the ITT(P = 0.034) and the PP analyses(P = 0.017).
