BACKGROUND Advances in endoscopic imaging enable the identification of patients at high risk of gastric ***,there are no comparative data on the utility of standard and magnifying narrow-band imaging(M-NBI)endoscopy for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori(***)infection,gastric atrophy,and intestinal *** To compare the diagnostic performance of standard and M-NBI endoscopy for *** gastritis and precancerous *** In 254 patients,standard endoscopy findings were classified into mosaic-like appearance(type A),diffuse homogenous redness(type B),and irregular redness with groove(type C).Gastric mucosal patterns visualized by M-NBI were classified as regular round pits with polygonal sulci(type Z-1),more dilated and linear pits without sulci(type Z-2),and loss of gastric pits with coiled vessels(type Z-3).RESULTS The diagnostic accuracy of standard and M-NBI endoscopy for *** gastritis was 93.3%and 96.1%,*** gastric precancerous conditions,the accuracy of standard and M-NBI endoscopy was 72.0%vs 72.6%for moderate to severe atrophy,and 61.7%vs.61.1%for intestinal metaplasia in the corpus,*** to type A and Z-1,types B+C and Z-2+Z-3 were significantly associated with moderate to severe atrophy[odds ratio(OR)=5.56 and 8.67]and serum pepsinogen I/II ratio of≤3(OR=4.48 and 5.69).CONCLUSION Close observation of the gastric mucosa by standard and M-NBI endoscopy is useful for the diagnosis of *** gastritis and precancerous conditions.

AIM To evaluate the differences in outcomes between ABOincompatible(ABO-I) liver transplantation(LT) and ABO-compatible(ABO-C) *** A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed by searching eligible articles published before November 28, 2016 on MEDLINE(Pub Med), EMBASE, and Cochrane databases. The primary endpoints were graft survival, patient survival, and ABO-I-related complications. RESULTS Twenty-one retrospective observational studies with a total of 8247 patients were included in this metaanalysis. Pooled results of patient survival for ABO-I LT were comparable to those for ABO-C LT. However, ABO-I LT showed a poorer graft survival than ABO-C LT(1-year: OR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.57-0.76, P sociated with more incidences of antibody-mediated rejection(OR = 74.21, 95%CI: 16.32-337.45, P < 0.001), chronic rejection(OR =2.28, 95%CI: 1.00-5.22, P = 0.05), cytomegalovirus infection(OR = 2.64, 95%CI: 1.63-4.29, P < 0.001), overall biliary complication(OR = 1.52, 95%CI: 1.01-2.28, P = 0.04), and hepatic artery complication(OR = 4.17, 95%CI: 2.26-7.67, P < 0.001) than ABO-C LT. In subgroup analyses, ABO-I LT and ABO-C LT showed a comparable graft survival in pediatric patients and those using rituximab, and ABO-I LT showed an increased acute cellular rejection in cases involving deceased donor *** Although patient survival in ABO-I LT was comparable to that in ABO-C LT, ABO-I LT was inferior to ABO-C LT in graft survival and several complications. Graft survival of ABO-I LT could be comparable to that of ABO-C LT in pediatric patients and those using rituximab.

AIM： Interstitial cells of Cajal （ICCs） are the pacemaker cells that generate slow waves in the gastrointestinal （GI） tract. We have aimed to investigate the involvement of mitochondrial Na^＋-Ca^2＋ exchange in intestinal pacemaking activity in cultured interstitial cells of Cajal. METHODS： Enzymatic digestions were used to dissociate ICCs from the small intestine of a mouse. The whole-cell patch-clamp configuration was used to record membrane currents （voltage clamp） and potentials （current clamp） from cultured ICCs. RESULTS： Clonazepam and CGP37157 inhibited the pacemaking activity of ICCs in a dose-dependent manner. Clonazepam from 20 to 60 μmol/L and CGP37157 from 10 to 30 μmol/L effectively inhibited Ca^2＋ efflux from mitochondria in pacemaking activity of ICCs. The ICsos of clonazepam and CGP37157 were 37.1 and 18.2 μmol/ L, respectively. The addition of 20 μmol/L NiCl2 to the internal solution caused a ＂wax and wane＂ phenomenon of pacemaking activity of ICCs. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that mitochondria Na^＋-Ca^2＋ exchange has an important role in intestina pacemaking activity.

Inflammation is a primary defense process against various extracellular stimuli,such as viruses,pathogens,foods,and environmental *** cells respond to stimuli for short periods of time,it results in acute or physiological ***,if the stimulation is sustained for longer time or a pathological state occurs,it is known as chronic or pathological *** studies have shown that tumorigenesis in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is closely associated with chronic inflammation,for which abnormal cellular alterations that accompany chronic inflammation such as oxidative stresses,gene mutations,epigenetic changes,and inflammatory cytokines,are shared with carcinogenic processes,which forms a critical cross-link between chronic inflammation and *** growth factor (TGF)-β is a multi-potent cytokine that plays an important role in regulation of cell growth,apoptosis and *** importantly,TGF-β is a strong anti-inflammatory cytokine that regulates the development of effector ***-β has a suppressive effect on carcinogenesis under normal conditions by inhibiting abnormal cell growth,but on the other hand,many GI cancers originate from uncontrolled cell growth and differentiation by genetic loss of TGF-β signaling molecules or perturbation of TGF-β *** a tumor has developed,TGF-β exerts a promoting effect on the tumor itself and stromal cells to enhance cell growth,alter the responsiveness of tumor cells to stimulate invasion and metastasis,and inhibited immune ***,novel development of therapeutic agents to inhibit TGF-β-induced progression of tumor and to retain its growth inhibitory activities,in addition to anti-inflammatory actions,could be useful in *** this review,we discuss the role of TGF-β in inflammation and carcinogenesis of the GI tract related to abnormal TGF-β signaling.

AIM:lo evaluate the changes on optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) and fluorescein angiography(FA) and their correlation in neovascular agerelated macular degeneration(nAMD) before and after intravitreal aflibercept injections(IAIs).METHODS:In 43 treatment-na?ve patients with nAMD,choroidal neovascularization(CNV) in OCTA were morphologically and quantitatively analyzed before and after IAIs to determine whether they are correlated with leakage on FA or *** combining CNV in OCTA and leakage in FA,lesions were characterized as three types:L+C+(with both CNV and leakage),L-C+(with CNV but without leakage),or L+C-lesion(with leakage outside CNV).RESULTS:Before IAI,while 27 eyes had L+C+lesion only,16 eyes had both L+C+and L-C+lesions *** capillaries and anastomosis in CNV were more developed in L+C+lesion,at 86.0% and58.1%,respectively,relative to 9.3% and 9.3% in L-C+lesions(Pso significantly ***:Leakage on FA is associated with CNV morphology in OCTA and remained so after ***,by carefully assessing the morphological and quantitative changes of CNV in OCTA before and after treatment,activity of nAMD is expected even though CNV on OCTA is not completely matched with fluorescein leakage.

Periodic Tail Motion Linked to Wing Motion Affects the Longitudinal Stability of Ornithopter Flight

During slow level flight of a pigeon, a caudal muscle involved in tail movement, the levator caudae pars vertebralis, is activated at a particular phase with the pectoralis wing muscle. Inspired by mechanisms for the control of stability in flying animals, especially the role of the tail in avian flight, we investigated how periodic tail motion linked to motion of the wings affects the longitudinal stability of ornithopter flight. This was achieved by using an integrative ornithopter flight simulator that included aeroelastic behaviour of the flexible wings and tail. Trim flight trajectories of the simulated omithopter model were calculated by time integration of the nonlinear equations of a flexible multi-body dynamics coupled with a semi-empirical flapping-wing and tail aerodynamic models. The unique trim flight characteristics of ornithopter, Limit-Cycle Oscillation, were found under the sets of wingbeat frequency and tail elevation angle, and the appropriate phase angle of tail motion was determined by parameter studies minimizing the amplitude of the oscillations. The numerical simulation results show that tail actuation synchronized with wing motion suppresses the oscillation of body pitch angle over a wide range of wingbeat frequencies.

1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 （VD3）, an active form of Vitamin D, is photosynthesized in the skin of vertebrates in response to solar ultraviolet B radiation （UV-B）. VD3 deficiency can cause health problems such as immune disease, metabolic disease, and bone disorders. It has also been demonstrated that VD3 is involved in reproductive functions. Female sex hormones such as estrogen and progesterone are biosynthesized mainly in ovarian granulosa cells as the ovarian follicle develops. The functions of sex hormones include regulation of the estrus cycle and puberty as well as maintenance of pregnancy in females. In this study, we isolated granulosa cells from porcine ovaries and cultured them for experiments. To examine the effects of VD3 on ovarian granulosa cells, the mRNA and protein levels of genes were analyzed by Real-time PCR and Western blotting assay. Production of progesterone from granulosa cells was also measured by ELISA assay. As a result, transcriptional and translational regulation of progesterone biosynthesis-related genes in granulosa cells was significantly altered by VD3. Furthermore, progesterone concen- trations in porcine granulosa cell-cultured media decreased in response to VD3. These results show that VD3 was a strong regulator of sex steroid hormone production in porcine granulosa cells, suggesting that vitamin D deficiency may result in inappropriate sexual development of industrial animals and eventually economic loss.
