Risk factors for metachronous gastric carcinoma development after endoscopic resection of gastric dysplasia: Retrospective, single-center study

To determine the gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) occurrence rate and related factors, we evaluated the follow-up results of patients confirmed to have gastric dysplasia after endoscopic resection (ER). METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the medical records, endoscopic examination records, endoscopic procedure records, and histological records of 667 cases from 641 patients who were followed-up for at least 12 mo, from among 1273 patients who were conformed to have gastric dysplasia after Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of gastric mucosal lesions between January 2007 and August 2013 at the Chungnam National University Hospital. RESULTSThe mean follow-up period was 33.8 mo, and the median follow-up period was 29 mo (range: 12-87). During the follow-up period, the occurrence of metachronous GAC was 4.0% (27/667). The mean and median interval periods between the occurrence of metachronous GAC and endoscopic treatment of gastric dysplasia were 36.3 and 34 mo, respectively (range: 16-71). The factors related to metachronous GAC occurrence after ER for gastric dysplasia were male sex (5.3% vs 1.0%), open-type atrophic gastritis (9.5% vs 3.4%), intestinal metaplasia (6.8% vs 2.4%), and high-grade dysplasia (HGD; 8.4% vs 3.2%). Among them, male sex [OR: 5.05 (1.18-21.68), P = 0.029], intestinal metaplasia [OR: 2.78 (1.24-6.23), P = 0.013], and HGD [OR: 2.70 (1.16-6.26), P = 0.021] were independent related factors in multivariate analysis. Furthermore, 24 of 27 GAC cases (88.9%) occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites, and 3 (11.1%) occurred at the same site as the previous resection site. CONCLUSIONMale sex, intestinal metaplasia, and HGD were significantly related to the occurrence of metachronous GAC after ER of gastric dysplasia, and most GACs occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites.

Evaluation of SWAT sub-daily runoff estimation at small agricultural watershed in Korea

A study was undertaken for the prediction of runoff flow from 0.8 ha field-sized agricultural watershed in South Korea using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) sub-daily. The SWAT model with sub-daily configuration predicted flow from the watershed within the range of acceptable accuracy. The SWAT sub-daily simulations were carried out for a total of 18 rainfall events, 9 each for calibration and validation. Overall trend and extent of matching simulated flow for the rainfall events in 2007–2008 with measured data during the calibration process were coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.88 and Nash and Sutcliffe Efficiency (ENS) value of 0.88. For validation, R2 and ENS values were 0.9 and 0.84, respectively. Whereas R2 and ENS values for simulation results using daily rainfall data were 0.79 and ?0.01, respectively, that were observed to be out of acceptable limits for the model simulation. The importance of higher time resolution (hourly) precipitation records for flow simulation were evaluated by comparing R2 and ENS with 15 min, 2 h, 6 h and 12 h precipitation data, which resulted in lower statistics with increases in time resolution of precipitation data. The SWAT sub-daily sensitivity analysis was performed with the consideration of hydraulic parameter and was found as in the rank order of CN2 (curve number), ESCO (soil evaporation compensation factor), GW_DELAY (ground water delay time), ALPHA_BF (base flow alpha factor), GWQMN (a threshold minimum depth of water in the shallow aquifer required for return flow to occur), REVAPMN (minimum depth of water in shallow aquifer for re-evaporation to occur), LAT_TIME (lateral flow travel time) respectively. However,most of researches on fish robots have been carried out via empirical or experimental approaches,not based on dynamic *** this paper,we proposed an analytical optimization approach which can guarantee the maximum propulsive velocity of fish robot in the given parametric ***,a dynamic model of 3-joint(4 links)carangiform fish robot is derived,using which the influences of parameters of input torque functions,such as amplitude,frequency and phase difference,on its velocity are investigated by ***,the maximum velocity of the fish robot is optimized by combining Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Hill Climbing Algorithm(HCA).GA is used to generate the initial optimal parameters of the input functions of the ***,the parameters are optimized again by HCA to ensure that the final set of parameters is the'near'global ***,both simulations and primitive experiments are carried out to prove the feasibility of the proposed method.

The Characteristics of CLHS Driving for High Luminance Efficiency in AC PDP

This paper proposes a CLHS （Capacitor Less Half Sustain） driving method that is applied to a long gap panel to reduce the power consumption. In order to reduce the power consumption in moving images, the luminous efficiency should be improved at the low discharge load （〈25%）. The weight of reactive power consumption tends to increase as the low discharge load decreases. Thus, it is very important to improve the luminous efficiency at low discharge load. It is well known that a long gap panel improves the luminance and the luminous efficiency but it is very difficult to drive the panel due to high driving voltage. It is confirmed that the main factors which cause a long gap panel to increase the minimum driving voltages are not only a long discharge gap but also self-erasing discharge. Self-erasing discharge is generated between the address and sustain electrodes in a sustain period. The CLHS driving method can reduce the reactive power consumption in a sustain period because energy recovery capacitors were removed in the sustain circuit. The CLHS driving method can reduce the minimum driving voltage of the long gap panel because the self-erasing discharge was prevented. When the CLHS driving method was applied to the panel with an ITO gap of 100 μm, Vs and VA minimum voltages are reduced by about 9 V and 12 V compared with those of the normal driving method. The luminance and the luminous efficiency also increased by about 24.3% and 33.3% at the discharge load of 4% compared with those at the normal condition.

Origin of superior low-cycle fatigue resistance of an interstitial metastable high-entropy alloy

In this study, the deformation behaviors and related microstructural evolutions were investigated in either monotonic or cyclic deformation modes in an interstitial metastable high-entropy alloy. These investigations aimed to reveal the mechanisms underlying the superior low-cycle fatigue(LCF) life of this alloy.A thermomechanical process was applied to induce fine-grained(FG) and coarse-grained(CG) microstructures in Fe–30Mn–10Co–10Cr–0.4C(atomic percentage) alloy. Their superior combination of strength and ductility was attributed to the appearance of deformation-induced ε-martensite and the presence of carbon. The CG alloy showed a greater volume fraction of ε-martensite than the FG alloy in the monotonic deformation mode, and vice versa in the cyclic mode. Such a disparity was interpreted in light of the back-stress effect of the relaxed γ-grain boundaries in the latter mode. Meanwhile, the γ-to-ε phase transformation under cyclic loading at low strain amplitudes(0.4%) barely led to an improved fatigue life as compared with that at higher strain amplitudes(≥ 0.55%). The high reversibility of partial dislocation motions under cyclic loading and delaying the formation of dislocation cells through the martensitic transformation could explain why the alloys investigated in this study exhibited a superior LCF life compared with high-entropy alloys reported in previous studies.

Segregation of voiced and unvoiced components from residual of speech signal

In conventional source-filter models, voiced and unvoiced components were considered independently. However, in practice it was difficult to separate the source into two parts. An actual source consists of a mixture of two sources and the ratio varies according to the content or the intention of speaker. It had been investigated to separate the voiced and unvoiced components for different source models. Source signals were modeled based on the residual signal measured from inverse filtering. Three different source models were assumed. The parameters of each model were optimized for the original speech signal using a genetic algorithm. The resulting parameters were compared in terms of the mel-cepstral distance to the original signal, the spectrogram and the spectral envelope from the synthesized signal. The optimization method achieves an improvement of 15% for the Klatt model, but there is little improvement in the modified residual case.
