Biodegradable hydrogels are promising biomaterials for use in controlled-release systems for skin tissue regeneration. Controlled delivery systems constitute an important aspect of tissue engineering because they can modulate various physiological responses, including early immune response, tissue remodeling, and cell proliferation and maturation in the wound-healing process. Hydrogels composed of various biomaterials have been developed to overcome the limitations of conventional drug- or protein-delivery systems, such as limited targeting ability, low stability, and the induction of drug resistance. Hydrogels based on keratin, a natural polymer extracted from human hair, can provide adequate cell support and control homeostasis. Consequently, they can be applied for skin tissue engineering. In this study, we prepared degradable, tunable, and biocompatible hydrogels for controllable protein delivery. We synthesized keratin-fibrinogen (KER-FBG) by the chemical coupling reaction and prepared hydrogels through polymerization with thrombin. The structures and morphologies of the KER-FBG hydrogels were confirmed. Furthermore, the mechanical properties, swelling ratio, degradation, release behavior, and biocompatibility were investigated. The KER-FBG hydrogels presented promising biological performance, indicating that the material is suitable as a controlled protein delivery carrier.

In cutting-edge optical technologies,polarization is a key for encoding and transmitting vast information,highlighting the importance of selectively switching and modulating polarized ***,anisotropic two-dimensional materials have emerged for ultrafast switching of polarization-multiplexed optical signals,but face challenges with low polarization ratios and limited spectral ***,we apply strain to quasi-one-dimensional layered ZrSe_(3)to enhance polarization selectivity and tune operational energies in ultrafast all-optical ***,transient absorption on unstrained ZrSe_(3)reveals a sub-picosecond switching response in polarization along a specific crystal axis,attributed to shifting-recovery dynamics of an anisotropic ***,its polarization selectivity is weakened by a slow non-excitonic response in the perpendicular *** overcome this limitation,we apply strain to ZrSe_(3)by bending its flexible *** compressive strain spectrally decouples the excitonic and nonexcitonic components,doubling the polarization selectivity of the sub-picosecond switching and tripling it compared to that in the tensile-strained ZrSe_(3).It also effectively tunes the switching energy at a shift rate of~93 meV%-*** strain-tunable switching is repeatable,reversible,and robustly maintains the sub-picosecond ***-principles calculations reveal that the strain control is enabled by momentum-and band-dependent modulations of the electronic band structure,causing opposite shifts in the excitonic and non-excitonic *** findings offer a novel approach for high-performance,wavelength-tunable,polarization-selective ultrafast optical switching.

Mucormycosis is an uncommon opportunistic fungal infection with high mortality in liver transplant recipients. Mucormycosis of the gastrointestinal tract can manifest with features similar to ischemic colitis. Typically signs and symptoms of non-gangrenous ischemic colitis resolve spontaneously within 24-48 h. On the other hand, the clinical course of the mucormycosis is commonly fulminant. We encountered a case of invasive fungal colitis presenting with abdominal pain and hematochezia in a liver transplant recipient. Endoscopic examination showed multiple shallow ulcerations and edema with mucosal friabilities on the sigmoid and distal descending colon, which was consistent with ischemic colitis. however, the histological examination obtained from endoscopic biopsies showed fungal hyphae withsurrounding inflammatory cells and mucosal necrosis. The patient was successfully managed with antifungal agent without surgical treatment. Thus, early diagnosis and treatment is essential for improving the prognosis of invasive fungal infection after liver transplantation.

BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus(CMV)colitis is usually seen in immunocompromised patients with risk factors such as human immunodeficiency virus infection,solid organ transplant,inflammatory bowel disease,or ***,many clinicians usually do not consider the possibility of CMV colitis in immunocompetent *** reported a rare case of segmental colonic hypoganglionosis associated with CMV colitis in an immunocompetent *** SUMMARY A 48-year-old woman with no underlying disease was admitted to our hospital for severe abdominal pain and *** tomography of the abdomen showed diffuse dilatation of the small intestine and the entire *** sigmoidoscopic findings and result of polymerase chain reaction(PCR)for CMV revealed the compatible findings of CMV colitis,the patient was treated with intravenous *** treatment,sigmoidoscopic findings and CMV PCR results *** the patient continued to suffered from *** months after the initial admission,patient visited the emergency department with severe abdominal pain and imaging revealed aggravation of fecal impaction and bowel *** performed subtotal colectomy to control patient’s *** examination of the resected specimen showed significantly reduced number of mature ganglion cells in the sigmoid colon compared to that in the proximal *** Our case demonstrates that CMV colitis can develop even in patients with no other underlying disease,and that CMV colitis can be one of the causes for developing colonic hypoganglionosis.

The conversion efficiency of energy-harvesting devices can be increased by utilizing hot-carriers(HCs).however,due to ultrafast carrier-carrier scattering and the lack of carrier injection dynamics,HC-based devices have low *** the present work,we report the effective utilization of HCs at the nanoscale and their transfer dynamics from a non-noble metal to a metal oxide interface by means of real-space photocurrent mapping by using local probe techniques and conducting femtosecond transient absorption(TA)*** photocurrent maps obtained under white light unambiguously show that the HCs are injected into the metal oxide layer from the TiN layer,as also confirmed by conductive atomic force *** addition,the increased photocurrent in the bilayer structure indicates the injection of HCs from both layers due to the broadband absorption efficiency of TiN layer,passivation of the surface states by the top TiN layer,and smaller barrier height of the ***,electrostatic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy provide direct evidence of charge injection from TiN to the MoO_(x)film at the *** TA absorption spectra show a strong photo-bleaching signal over wide spectral range and ultrafast decaying behavior at the picosecond time scale,which indicate efficient electron transfer from TiN to MoO_(x).Thus,our simple and effective approach can facilitate HC collection under white light,thereby achieving high conversion efficiency for optoelectronic devices.

This study aimed to investigate the link between the exposure to intimate partner violence(IPV),core self-evaluations(CSE),and psychological adaptation of Chinese adolescents,through analysis of the results from the Survey of Children’s Exposure to Domestic Violence Scale,Core Self-Evaluations Scale,and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire,involving a total of 597 Chinese middle school *** is indicated that the exposure to IPV is positively correlated with lower levels of psychological adaptation and CSE,and CSE is positively correlated with higher levels of psychological *** analysis revealed that CSE partially mediated the association between the exposure to IPV and psychological *** results suggest that educators and parents should help adolescents tackle their emotional and behavioral problems by reducing the risk of IPV exposure and increasing their CSE.
