Preparation of human decellularized peripheral nerve allograft using amphoteric detergent and nuclease

Animal studies have shown that amphoteric detergent and nuclease(DNase I and ribonuclease A) is the most reliable decellularization method of the peripheral nerve. However, the optimal combination of chemical reagents for decellularization of human nerve allograft needs further investigation. To find the optimal protocol to remove the immunogenic cellular components of the nerve tissue and preserve the basal lamina and extracellular matrix and whether the optimal protocol can be applied to larger-diameter human peripheral nerves, in this study, we decellularized the median and sural nerves from the cadavers with two different methods: nonionic and anionic detergents(Triton X-100 and sodium deoxycholate) and amphoteric detergent and nuclease(3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate(CHAPS), deoxyribonuclease I, and ribonuclease A). All cellular components were successfully removed from the median and sural nerves by amphoteric detergent and nuclease. Not all cellular components were removed from the median nerve by nonionic and anionic detergent. Both median and sural nerves treated with amphoteric detergent and nuclease maintained a completely intact extracellular matrix. Treatment with nonionic and anionic detergent decreased collagen content in both median and sural nerves, while the amphoteric detergent and nuclease treatment did not reduce collagen content. In addition, a contact cytotoxicity assay revealed that the nerves decellularized by amphoteric detergent and nuclease was biocompatible. Strength failure testing demonstrated that the biomechanical properties of nerves decellularized with amphoteric detergent and nuclease were comparable to those of fresh controls. Decellularization with amphoteric detergent and nuclease better remove cellular components and better preserve extracellular matrix than decellularization with nonionic and anionic detergents, even in large-diameter human peripheral nerves. Fiber-shaped dye-sensitized solar cells(FDSSCs)represent promising futuristic flexible or wearable power sources,owing to their simple fabrication process,light weight,weavability,and *** with strategies on changing the properties of semiconductor materials,the effects of incorporating silver-embedded SiO_(2) nanoparticles(Ag@SiO_(2)NPs)on the photoanodes of solid-state FDSSCs(SS-FDSSCs)are *** power conversion efficiency(PCE)of SS-FDSSCs with Ag@SiO_(2) NPs reaches 5.38%,which is comparable to the reference(3.98%).The PCEs remain at 95%between-16.9 and 91.7℃,indicating the operational stability of SS-FDSSCs within this temperature *** fabricated SS-FDSSCs,whose radii were 2 mm,maintains more than 90%of their efficiency over 500 bending cycles and 10 washing cycles.

AIM： To investigate the toxicity of the E-prostanoid 2（EP2） receptor agonist, butaprost against human subconjunctival（Tenon＇s capsule） fibroblasts, and to determine the underlying mechanism. METHODS： We isolated Tenon＇s fibroblasts from the subconjunctival area of healthy subjects and evaluated the types of EP receptors expressed using quantitative realtime reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction（RTPCR）. The toxicity of butaprost against the fibroblasts was evaluated using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium and lactic dehydrogenase assays. The inhibition of conjunctival fibroblast proliferation by butaprost was assessed by measuring α-actin levels. The underlying mechanism was assessed by measuring intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate（c AMP） levels. Intergroup differences were statistically analyzed using an independent t-test. Densitometry of the Western blot bands was performed using the Image J software. RESULTS： Quantitative real-time RT-PCR revealed that the fibroblast EP2 receptor levels were higher than those of the other EP receptors. Butaprost did not show toxicity against Tenon＇s tissue, but inhibited conjunctival fibroblast proliferation by reducing collagen synthesis. EP2 receptor activation enhanced the c AMP cascade, which might be an important mechanism underlying this ***： Butaprost effectively reduces the subconjunctival scarring response. Given the significanceof wound healing modulation in blebs, butaprost＇s inhibitory effect on subconjunctival Tenon＇s fibroblasts may be beneficial in managing postoperative scarring in glaucoma surgery.

Contrast evaluation can be used as a criterion to evaluate performance of contrast enhancement algorithms and to compare contrast capability of display systems. This paper deals with contrast evaluation models for natural color images. Two separate models are defined for within- and cross-content evaluations. The former is to differentiate the perceived contrast of the images with the same content. The latter is to discriminate the differences in contrast among the images with different contents. Perception mechanisms are quite different for within- and cross-content evaluations. Local contrast plays an important role in within-content evaluation. In contrast, global contrast dominates the contrast perception for cross-content evaluation. Results of human visual experiments show that the proposed evaluation models outperform previous methods for both within- and cross-content evaluations.

We studied the feeding ecology of the Black wood Pigeon(Columba janthina),a species endemic to the East Asian Pacific Islands,and determined the species’dietary composition and food preferences on Ulleung Island,South Korea,through field *** March 2016 to February 2018,the diversity of food items consumed was low,with the 10 most common plant species(from a total of 33)accounting for over 80%.Food availability varied depending on plant abundance,but this influence was minimized because of factors such as delayed fruit *** were the most favored food items(60-68%)but were replaced by nuts and weed seeds during the spring and winter *** composition and food preferences were related to the abundance of food items based on their phenology,but a steady,high preference for Aphananthe aspera was observed throughout the study *** abundance of Prunus takesimensis in June was correlated with changes in the Black wood Pigeon *** study is the first to assess the feeding ecology of Black wood Pigeons using field observations and suggests that the availability of different food items affects population changes on the East Asian Pacific islands.

Discharging dye contaminants into water is a major concern around the *** a variety of methods to treat dye-contaminated water,photocatalytic degradation has gained attention as a tool for treating the colored ***,we review the recent advancements in photocatalysis for dye degradation in industrial effluents by categorizing photocatalyst materials into three *** generation photocatalysts are composed of single-component materials (e.g.,TiO2,ZnO,and CdS),while second generation photocatalysts are composed of multiple components in a suspension (e.g.,WO3/NiWO4,BiOl/ZnTiOa,and C3N4/Ag3VO4).Photocatalysts immobilized on solid substrates are regarded as third generation materials (e.g.,FTO/WO3-ZnO,Steel/TiO2-WO3,and Glass/P-TiO2).Photocatalytic degradation mechanisms,factors affecting the dye degradation,and the lesser-debated uncertainties related to the photocatalysis are also discussed to offer better insights into environmental ***,quantum yields of different photocatalysts are calculated,and a performance evaluation method is proposed to compare photocatalyst systems for dye ***,we discuss the present limitations of photocatalytic dye degradation for field applications and the future of the technology.

Background:Effective antibiotic alternatives are urgently needed in the poultry industry to control disease *** therapy mainly utilizes lytic phages to kill their respective bacterial hosts and can be an attractive solution to combating the emergence of antibiotic resistance in ***:Five hundred and four,one-day-old broilers(Ross 308)were allotted to 1 of 4 treatment groups in a completely randomized *** consisted of CON(basal diet),PC(CON+0.025%Avilamax®),BP 0.05(CON+0.05%bacteriophage),and BP 0.10(CON+0.10%bacteriophage).Results:A significant linear effect on body weight gain(BWG)was observed during days 1–7,days 22–35,and cumulatively in bacteriophage(BP)supplemented *** BWG tended to be higher(P=0.08)and the feed intake(FI)was increased(P=0.017)in the PC group over CON group.A greater(P=0.016)BWG and trends in increased FI(P=0.06)were observed in the experiment in birds fed PC than CON *** the genus level,the relative abundance of Lactobacillus was decreased in PC(65.28%),while it was similar in BP 0.05 and BP 0.10(90.65%,86.72%)compared to CON(90.19%).At the species level,the relative abundance of Lactobacillus salivarus was higher in BP 0.05(40.15%)and BP 0.10(38.58%)compared to the CON(20.04%)and PC(18.05%).A linear reduction in the weight of bursa of Fabricius(P=0.022)and spleen(P=0.052)was observed in birds fed graded level of BP and an increase(P=0.059)in the weight of gizzard was observed in birds fed PC over BP *** and quadratic responses were observed in redness of breast muscle color in birds fed graded level of ***:The inclusion of the 0.05%and 0.1%BP cocktail linearly improved broiler weight during the first 7 days,22–35 days and cumulatively,whereas 0.05%BP addition was sufficient for supporting immune organs,bursa and spleen as well as enhancing gut microbiome,indicating the efficacy of 0.05%BP as a substitute antibiotic growth promoter in broiler diets.

Non-Invasive Measurements of Thickness of Superconductor Films by Using Two-Resonant-Mode Rutile Resonator

The film thickness should be known for extrazting the intrinsic surface resistance from the effective surface resistance as measured by using the dielectric resonator method. Thicknesses of 70 nm to 360 nm are measured for YBa2 Cu3 O7-δ films in a non-invasive way by using the two-resonant-mode dielectric resonator （TDR） method. A futile resonator with the respective resonant frequencies of 15.25-15.61 GHz and 15.10-15.37 GHz for the TE021 and the TE012 modes is used for this purpose. Differences between the values as measured by using the TDR technique and those measured by using a step profilometer appear to be less than 3%, which is smaller than the previous value of 5% as measured by using a 8. 6 GHz single-resonance mode futile resonator [Lee et al. J. Korean Phys. Soc. 54（2009）1619]. Merits of using the TDR method are discussed.
