Compensation of image noise induced by difference in optical characteristics of array-LED chips of LED print head

There are various applied electro-optical devices, which utilize light emitting didoe(LED) chip array for applications to displays and opto-electronic sensors. In those devices, it is the one of the critical technical issues to minimize uncertain fluctuations including optical power and optical density. Due to variation in operating environment of a device, those are not corrected precisely by controlling parameters based on simple relation between parameters and resultant abovementioned ***, there is essential need to correct outputs in real-time based on correction function generated from the consideration on various operation condition. In this article, we introduce an output correction method through reporting real-time image noise reduction in the application to electro-photography with LED print head. In the technology of LED print head, as differences in optical characteristics between each LED cause vertical image noise, it should be corrected in order to obtain images that are comparable or better in quality compared to those produced by the conventional laser scanning method. Even though it seems that the method used to obtain uniform light power from each LED can solve this problem, it does not work well for high-resolution printing. Therefore, a scan method involving correction by a printed and scanned pattern is introduced through this work. The scan method is composed of correction patterns to minimize printing noise by its shape, the correction algorithm to calculate the optimized value and the printing algorithm to control gray levels in real-time precisely. We believe that the developed correction method upgrades the printing quality of the LPH printer better than commercial printers. The developed correction method can also be applied to various application areas that use an array-type light source such as display systems and lighting systems.

Effect of pre-deformation on precipitation behavior of AZ80 alloy:Comparison of slip-and twinning-dominant deformation

This study investigates the effect of the deformation mode on the precipitation behavior of an extruded Mg-8.0Al-0.5Zn-0.2Mn(AZ80)*** alloy samples are compared after the application of 3.5%tension and 3.5%compression along the extrusion direction to induce slip-dominant and twinning-dominant deformation modes,*** pre-compressed(PC)sample,which contained numerous{10-12}tension twins,has a reduced grain size and a higher internal strain than the pre-tensioned(PT)sample,which is attributed to the inherent internal strain that occurs during the formation and growth of the *** a result,the precipitation behavior of the PC sample is accelerated,leading to its short peak aging time of 32 h,which is lower than those of the PT and as-extruded samples(48 and 100 h,respectively).Furthermore,fine continuous precipitates(CPs)rapidly form within the{10-12}twins,contributing to the enhanced *** precipitates(DPs),which have a hardness comparable to the CP-containing twinned regions,in the PC sample experience less coarsening during aging than those in the PT sample due to growth inhibition by the{10-12}***,the{10-12}twins generated under the twinning-dominant deformation condition lead to enhanced precipitation behaviors,including the preferential formation and refinement of CPs and the suppressed coarsening of ***,pre-deformation that occurs{10-12}twinning exhibits more pronounced effects on precipitation acceleration and microstructural modification than slip-inducing pre-deformation.

Use of a Digital Image Correlation Technique for Measuring the Material Properties of Beetle Wing

Beetle wings are very specialized flight organs consisting of the veins and *** it is necessary from a bionic view to investigate the material properties of a beetle wing *** the present study,we have used a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique to measure the elastic modulus of a beetle wing *** were prepared by carefully cutting a beetle hind wing into 3.0 mm by 7.0 mm segments (the gage length was 5 mm).We used a scanning electron microscope for a precise measurement of the thickness of the beetle wing *** specimen was attached to a designed fixture to induce a uniform displacement by means of a *** used an ARAMISTM system based on the digital image correlation technique to measure the corresponding displacement of a *** thickness of the beetle wing varied at different points of the *** elastic modulus differed in relation to the membrane arrangement showing a structural anisotropy;the elastic modulus in the chordwise direction is approximately 2.65 GPa,which is three times larger than the elastic modulus in the spanwise direction of 0.84 *** a result,the digital image correlation-based ARAMIS system was suc- cessfully used to measure the elastic modulus of a beetle *** addition to membrane's elastic modulus,we considered the Poisson's ratio of the membrane and measured the elastic modulus of a vein using an Instron universal tensile *** result reveals the Poisson's ratio is nearly zero and the elastic modulus of a vein is about 11 GPa.

CO2/CH4 separation using inside coated thin film composite hollow fiber membranes prepared by interfacial polymerization

Carbon dioxide(CO_2) is greenhouse gas which originates primarily as a main combustion product of biogas and landfill gas. To separate this gas, an inside coated thin film composite(TFC) hollow fiber membrane was developed by interfacial polymerization between 1,3–cyclohexanebis–methylamine(CHMA) and trimesoyl chloride(TMC). ATR-FTIR, SEM and AFM were used to characterize the active thin layer formed inside the PSf hollow fiber. The separation behavior of the CHMA-TMC/PSf membrane was scrutinized by studying various effects like feed gas pressure and temperature. Furthermore, the influence of CHMA concentration and TMC concentration on membrane morphology and performance were investigated. As a result, it was found that mutually the CHMA concentration and TMC concentration play key roles in determining membrane morphology and performance. Moreover, the CHMA-TMC/PSf composite membrane showed good CO_2/CH_4 separation performance. For CO_2/CH_4 mixture gas(30/70 by volume) test, the membrane(PD1 prepared by CHMA 1.0% and TMC 0.5%) showed a CO_2 permeance of 25 GPU and the best CO_2/CH_4 selectivity of 28 at stage cut of 0.1. The high CO_2/CH_4 separation performance of CHMA-TMC/PSf thin film composite membrane was mostly accredited to the thin film thickness and the properties of binary amino groups.

The use of nanofillers with high surface area and extreme purity in polymer composite is an effective strategy to obtain high performance polymeric ***,the effect of nanofillers such as carbon nanotubes(CNT),titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)),and their hybrid on rubber-based composites was *** this study,rubber nanocomposites were fabricated by using room temperature vulcanized(RTV)silicone rubber matrix and nanofillers(***,TiO_(2),and CNT-TiO_(2))through solution casting ***,the purity and surface area of CNT(purity:>96%and BET surface area:300 m2/g)and TiO_(2)(purity:>98%and BET surface area:165 m2/g)were estimated by field emission scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray(FESEM-EDX)and adsorption *** mechanical properties of the rubber nanocomposites were enhanced by incorporating *** compressive modulus was 2.18 MPa for unfilled composites and increased to 6.8 MPa(CNT),3.95 MPa(CNT-TiO_(2)),and 2.44 MPa(TiO_(2))at 5 phr,***,the tensile strength was 0.54 MPa for unfilled composites and increased to 1.37 MPa(CNT),1.33 MPa(CNT-TiO_(2))and 0.61 MPa(TiO_(2))at 5 phr,***,the actuation displacement was improved with increasing input voltage and it was 2 mm for CNT,1.6 mm for CNT-TiO_(2) hybrid and 0.5 mm for TiO_(2) at 10 ***,a series of experiments show the potential application in piezoelectric actuation.

Diagnostic accuracy of administrative database for bile duct cancer by ICD-10 code in a tertiary institute in Korea

Background:Administrative database provides valuable information for large cohort studies,especially when tissue diagnosis is rather difficult such as the diagnosis for bile duct cancer(BDC).The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of administrative database for BDC by International Classification of Diseases(ICD)-10 codes in a tertiary ***:BDC and control groups were collected from 2003 to 2016 at Seoul National University Bundang *** of BDC were identified in the National Health Insurance Service(NHIS)database by ICD 10-code supported by V *** control group was selected from cases without ICD-10 codes for BDC.A definite or possible diagnosis was defined according to pathologic *** records,images,and pathology reports were analyzed to evaluate ICD-10 codes for ***,specificity,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value for BDC were analyzed according to diagnostic criteria and cancer ***:A total of 1707 patients with BDC and 1707 controls were *** those with BDC,1320(77.3%)were diagnosed by definite ***(99.4%)of them had *** of definite diagnosis was the highest for ampulla of Vater(88.9%),followed by that for extrahepatic(84.9%)and intrahepatic(68.3%)*** positive cases commonly had hepatocellular *** overall diagnosis of BDC,sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value were 99.94%,98.33%,98.30%,and 99.94%,*** accuracies were similar regardless of diagnostic criteria or tumor ***:Administrative database for BDC collected according to ICD-10 code with V code shows good accuracy.

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in spinal surgery

Recently, many surgeons have been using intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring(IOM) in spinal surgery to reduce the incidence of postoperative neurological complications, including level of the spinal cord, cauda equina and nerve root. Several established technologies are available and combined motor and somatosensory evoked potentials are considered mandatory for practical and successful IOM. Spinal cord evoked potentials are elicited compound potentials recorded over the spinal cord. Electrical stimulation is provoked on the dorsal spinal cord from an epidural electrode. Somatosensory evoked potentials assess the functional integrity of sensory pathways from the peripheral nerve through the dorsal column and to the sensory cortex. For identification of the physiological midline, the dorsal column mapping technique can be used. It is helpful for reducing the postoperative morbidity associated with dorsal column dysfunction when distortion of the normal spinal cord anatomy caused by an intramedullary cord lesion results in confusion in localizing the midline for the myelotomy. Motor evoked potentials(MEPs) consist of spinal, neurogenic and muscle MEPs. MEPs allow selective and specific assessment of the functional integrity of descending motor pathways, from the motor cortex to peripheral muscles. Spinal surgeons should understand the concept of the monitoring techniques and interpret monitoring records adequately to use IOM for the decision making during the surgery for safe surgery and a favorable surgical outcome.

Versatile control of concentration gradients in non-fullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction films using solvent rinse treatments

Solvent rinse treatments using polar methanol(Me OH)and nonpolar n-hexane have been developed for controlling material concentration gradients along the longitudinal direction of non-fullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction(BHJ)films comprised of electron donor polymer,PBDB-T and acceptor,*** the used solvents(chlorobenzene with 1 vol%DIO)were completely evaporated,ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the top surface of the BHJ films after they were rinsed with Me OH,as evidenced by water contact angle,atomic force microscopy,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy,which led to enhanced electron transport in the conventional structure of organic solar cells(OSCs).In contrast,after rinsing with n-hexane,ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the bottom surface of the films,which improved electron transport in the inverted structure *** enhanced carrier transports increased the PCEs(11.80%and 11.15%)in both conventional and inverted OSCs by 10.29%and 10.35%compared with control *** versatile control of material concentration gradients is determined to be feasible owing to the chemical interaction of the used substrates(glass,PEDOT:PSS,and Zn O)and rinsing solvents.

Curcumin-induced cell death depends on the level of autophagic flux in A172 and U87MG human glioblastoma cells

Glioblastoma is the deadliest neoplasm with the worst 5-year survival rate among all human *** promotes autophagic cell death or blocks the induction of apoptosis in eukaryotic ***,we investigated whether varying levels of autophagic flux in glioblastoma lead to different efficacies of curcumin treatment using U87 MG and A172 human glioblastoma *** number of LC3 puncta,the number of cells with LC3 puncta and the level of LC3 Ⅱ,Atg5 and Atg7 protein were higher in U87 MG cells compared with A172 *** the cells were incubated with curcumin for 24 or 48 h,the percentage of cell death was higher in A172 cells compared with U87 MG *** the level of LC3 was lower,that of curcumin-induced LC3 was higher,in A172 cells than in U87 MG *** relative increases in cell death and LC3-mediated autophagy were greater under serum starvation in A172 cells compared with U87 MG ***-induced A172 cell death was reduced by serum *** both types of cells were transfected with LC3-GFP,the percentage of cell death was higher in A172 cells than that in U87 MG *** together,the data demonstrate that curcumin-mediated tumor cell death is regulated by the basal level of autophagic flux in different glioblastoma *** suggests that prior to the use of various curcumin therapeutics,the level of basal or induced autophagic flux should be carefully examined in tumor cells for the best efficacy.

Microstructural evolution of pre-twinned Mg alloy with annealing temperature and underlying boundary migration mechanism

This study investigates the variations in the microstructural characteristics of a pre-twinned Mg alloy with the temperature of the subsequent annealing *** this end,a rolled AZ31 alloy is compressed to 3%plastic strain along the rolling direction(RD)to activate{10-12}twinning and is subsequently annealed at 200,250,300,350,and 400℃.Numerous{10-12}twins are formed throughout the compressed material,leading to the formation of a RD-oriented *** an annealing temperature of 200℃,no microstructural variations occur during *** the annealing temperature increases from 250 to 400℃,the residual strain energy and remaining twin boundaries of the annealed material decrease owing to the promoted static recovery and the increased area fraction of twin-free grown ***,an increase in the annealing temperature results in a gradual microstructural transition from a fully twinned grain structure to a completely twin-free grain *** microstructural evolution during annealing is predominantly governed by the movement of high-angle grain boundaries via a strain-induced boundary migration mechanism,and a few twin boundaries migrate above 350℃because of their lower boundary *** boundary migration behavior and resultant microstructural evolution are discussed in detail based on the variations in boundary mobility and driving force for boundary migration with annealing temperature.
