Performance evaluation of the use of tire-derived fuel fly ash as mineral filler in hot mix asphalt concrete

According to deplete natural resources and need to protect the environment,the demand of a usage of waste material has significantly increased.Many studies are currently being carried out on the development of innovative and environmentally friendly materials for securing the safety of road users and improving the performance and durability of roads.For example,studies are currently being conducted on the use of waste tires as a substitute for currently used fuels.Since the development of the automobile industry,the amount of waste tire has continuously increased in accordance with the increased vehicle numbers.Tire-derived fuel(TDF)has been used as a fuel source with generated TDF fly ash.Mineral filler,made of fine mineral particles of a physical size passing the number 200 standard mesh sieve(75 micron),plays an important role in asphalt mixtures properties.This paper presents an application of TDF fly ash as filler in hot mix asphalt(HMA).In this study,the performance of TDF fly ash was confirmed through a comparison with three other mineral fillers:stone dust,cement,and hydrated lime.Various tests including Marshall stability test,moisture sensitivity test,dynamic immersion test,and a wheel tracking test were performed to investigate the difference in the behaviors of the samples with different parameters considered in this study.The results show that the mechanical performance of hot mix asphalt using TDF fly ash satisfied the quality standard specification of the Ministry of Land,Infrastructure and Transport(MOLIT),Korea.It can be concluded that the use of TDF fly ash as a mineral filler in HMA not only satisfied the mechanical properties,but also reduced the volume of the pollutants waste in the environment.

气候变化威胁人类的生存.化石燃料的过度使用导致CO_(2)持续排放是引起全球变暖和气候变化的主要因素,须尽快减少CO_(2)排放.捕获CO_(2)并将其转化为高附加值的燃料和化学品从而循环利用是减少CO_(2)净排放的有效措施.其中,CO_(2)催化加氢制甲酸(HCOOH)是碳捕获与利用(CCU)的有效途径之一,其产物HCOOH可用于防腐剂、牲畜饲料抗菌剂和食品添加剂,也可作为氢载体和直接甲酸燃料电池的燃料.目前,工业上生产HCOOH的工艺包括两个步骤:甲醇和CO在强碱条件下反应生成甲酸甲酯(HCO_(2)CH_(3)),随后水解为HCOOH.该工艺利用来自化石燃料的两种原料,排放出大量CO_(2),同时在水解步骤中使用了过量的酸性水,因此对生态环境产生一定的危害.近年来,以CO_(2)为可再生原料合成HCOOH被广泛研究,人们探索了电化学、光化学、生物和热化学反应等多种途径将CO_(2)还原为HCOOH,以期实现CO_(2)循环利用.上述方法距实际应用尚有一定距离,其中,CO_(2)催化加氢制HCOOH过程最先进,它与当前许多化学工业过程相似.由于CO_(2)分子的化学稳定性,CO_(2)加氢生成HCOOH在热力学上不利,可通过有机碱和无机碱形成甲酸-碱配合物,推动反应向生成HCOOH方向移动.然而,从甲酸基配合物中提取HCOOH需要额外的分离步骤,因此在无碱条件下直接将CO_(2)加氢生成HCOOH非常重要.本课题组致力于研究无碱条件下g-C_(3)N_(4)负载的Pd(记为Pd/CN)催化剂催化CO_(2)加氢合成HCOOH,前期研究(Chem.Commun.,2016,52,14302-14305和J.Catal.,2021,396,395-401)发现,通过控制Pd负载量可改变催化剂中Pd单原子/Pd纳米团簇的比例,且当两种状态Pd达到最佳比例时,催化剂催化活性最高.这表明在无碱CO_(2)加氢过程中,Pd单原子与纳米团簇间存在协同作用.此外,最近有关于单原子和纳米团簇在负载金属催化剂中不同作用的报道,如NixMg1-xO催化逆水气变换反应,Ir1/In_(2)O_(3)和Pd/Fe_(3)O_(4)催化CO_(2)加氢制乙醇反应等,这些工作得出相似的结论:单原子金属对CO_(2)活化有效,而纳米团簇对H_(2)活化有效.这对于设计以CO_(2)和H_(2)为反应物的金属催化剂很重要.本工作旨在考察类似的机理是否适用于Pd/CN催化剂在无碱条件下催化CO_(2)加氢制HCOOH过程.通过控制Pd负载量,合成了含有不同比例Pd单原子和Pd纳米团簇的Pd/CN催化剂,Pd与g-C_(3)N_(4)表面碱性位间的强静电相互作用使合成含有大量Pd单原子的Pd/CN催化剂成为可能.在Pd/CN催化剂催化无碱CO_(2)加氢制HCOOH过程中,当两种状态Pd达到最佳比例时,Pd单原子和Pd纳米簇之间存在协同作用,此时催化剂活性最高.实验表明,Pd纳米簇主要通过解离吸附参与H_(2)活化,Pd单原子对CO_(2)活化更有效.在最佳单原子比(单原子数/(单原子数+纳米簇)为41%)时,该催化剂表现出最高的活性,优于文献报道的相似反应条件下Pd催化剂活性.这些发现将为以CO_(2)和H_(2)分子为反应物的反应的催化剂设计提供一定的参考.

Thoracic pyogenic infectious spondylitis presented as pneumothorax:A case report

BACKGROUND Pyogenic infectious spondylitis(PIS)is a rare condition,with an incidence between 0.2 and 2 cases per 100000 per annum.It’s most common symptom-back or neck pain-occurs in more than 90%of cases.Herein,we reported a case of thoracic PIS accompanied by pneumothorax in a 65-year-old male patient.CASE SUMMARY A 65-year-old man presented with right chest pain and dyspnea.The initial erect posteroanterior chest radiography revealed pneumothorax,which was further evaluated by chest computed tomography,revealing pleural effusion in the right lung and a paravertebral abscess with bony destruction of vertebral body.Based on magnetic resonance imaging,the patient was diagnosed with thoracic infectious spondylitis with an anterior paravertebral abscess.He was prescribed antibiotics and underwent neurosurgery due to aggravated symptoms and neurologic deficit.Tissue examination revealed that the cause of pleural effusion and pneumothorax was Staphylococcus aureus infection contiguously spread to lung pleura.After several surgical treatments with intravenous antibiotic therapy for two months and transition to oral antibiotics(rifampin 600 mg qd and ciprofloxacin 500 mg bid),the patient received physical therapy to recover balance.One month after discharge,the patient had no chest pain or dyspnea,and exhibited no elevation in inflammatory markers or new thoracic lesions.CONCLUSION To our knowledge,this is the very first report of a case of thoracic PIS with pneumothorax.

Clinical outcomes and safety of high-resolution manometry guided superficial partial circular muscle myotomy in per-oral endoscopic myotomy for Jackhammer esophagus: Two cases report

BACKGROUND Jack hammer esophagus is a relatively rare disease and to date,there is no dramatic treatment option.Recently,conventional per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) have expanded their area into Jackhammer esophagus.However,several complications such as post procedure motility disorders (e.g.,passage disturbance) are issues after POEM.To overcome these issues,we here introduced high-resolution manometry (HRM)-guided superficial partial circular muscle myotomy,which involves cutting only the superficial layer of the esophageal circular muscle.CASE SUMMARY We report two cases of patients with Jackhammer esophagus who were treated with HRM-guided extremely superficial partial circular muscle myotomy during POEM.Case 1 was a 53-year-old female with medication-refractory odynophagia and case 2 was a 47-year-old man who presented with chest pain.They were diagnosed with Jackhammer esophagus using HRM,and the hypercontractile segments of the esophagus were identified.HRM-guided extremely superficial partial circular muscle myotomy was performed while preserving the lower esophageal sphincter.Therefore,the circular and longitudinal muscle layers are preserved but hypercontractile movements are reduced,even after POEM.Patients’ clinical symptoms dramatically improved right after POEM,and 6-mo follow-up HRM revealed completely resolved status.During a 1-year follow-up period,patients were still in good health and remained symptom free.CONCLUSION HRM-guided superficial partial circular muscle myotomy may be a promising alternative to conventional POEM for treating Jackhammer esophagus with improved efficacy.

HOS1 Facilitates the Phytochrome B-Mediated Inhibition of PIF4 Function during Hypocotyl Growth in Arabidopsis

Upon exposure to light, developing seedlings undergo photomorphogenesis, as illustrated by inhibition of hypocotyl elongation, cotyledon opening, and leaf greening. During hypocotyl photomorphogenesis, light signals are sensed by multiple photoreceptors, among which the red/far-red light-sensing phytochromes have been extensively studied. However, it is not fully understood how the phytochromes modulate hypo- cotyl growth. Here, we demonstrated that HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENES 1 （HOS1）, which is known to either act as E3 ubiquitin ligase or affect chromatin organization, inhibits the transcriptional activation activity of PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR 4 （PIF4）, a key transcrip- tion factor that promotes hypocotyl growth. Consistent with the negative regulatory role of HOSl in hypo- cotyl growth, HOSl-defective mutants exhibited elongated hypocotyls in the light. Notably, phyB induces HOS1 activity in inhibiting PIF4 function. Taken together, these observations provide a molecular basis for the phyB-mediated suppression of hypocotyl growth in Arabidopsis.

An intestinal duplication cyst is a very rare congenital anomaly, with symptoms including abdominal pain, abdominal distention, intestinal bleeding, and hematochezia. Hematochezia can be caused by ectopic gastric mucosa, although there are other causes of infantile hematochezia; hence, an intestinal duplication cyst can be misdiagnosed as bowel intussusception or Meckel＇s diverticulum. Here, a case of an intestinal duplication cyst that was misdiagnosed as Meckel＇s diverticulum is reported.

Management of complications following endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastric cancer

Endoscopic treatment should be considered for early gastric cancer(EGC)and gastric precancerous lesions.Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)was developed for en bloc removal of a large gastric neoplasm and has been developed following improvements in electrical equipment for hemostasis and dissection and with advances in various knives,hemostatic forceps and endoscopic equipment.ESD is currently the treatment of choice for precancerous lesions or EGC showing mucosal invasion.Hemorrhage and perforation are major complications of ESD for EGC.We describe the complication of ESD procedures in gastric lesions for endoscopists who are relatively inexperienced in ESD and who may lack optimal access to ESD education and facilities.

Anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of rosuvastatin by regulation of oxidative stress in a dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis model

AIM To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of rosuvastatin by regulation of oxidative stress in a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis model.METHODS An acute colitis mouse model was induced by oral administration of 5% DSS in the drinking water for 7 d. In the treated group, rosuvastatin(0.3 mg/kg per day) was administered orally before and after DSS administration for 21 d. On day 21, mice were sacrificed and the colons were removed for macroscopic examination, histology, and Western blot analysis. In the in vitro study, IEC-6 cells were stimulated with50 ng/m L tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and then treated with or without rosuvastatin(2 μmol/L). The levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS), inflammatory mediators, and apoptotic markers were measured. RESULTS In DSS-induced colitis mice, rosuvastatin treatment significantly reduced the disease activity index and histological damage score compared to untreated mice(P < 0.05). Rosuvastatin also attenuated the DSSinduced increase of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine and NADPH oxidase-1 expression in colon tissue. Multiplex ELISA analysis revealed that rosuvastatin treatment reduced the DSS-induced increase of serum IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-12 and IL-17, and G-CSF levels. The increased levels of cleaved caspase-3, caspase-7, and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in the DSS group were attenuated by rosuvastatin treatment. In vitro, rosuvastatin significantly reduced the production of ROS, inflammatory mediators and apoptotic markers in TNF-α-treated IEC-6 cells(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION Rosuvastatin had the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects in DSS-induced colitis model. Therefore, it might be a candidate anti-inflammatory drug in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Phytogenic feed additives alleviate pathogenic Escherichia coli-induced intestinal damage through improving barrier integrity and inhibiting inflammation in weaned pigs

Background:This study was conducted to investigate the effects of each phytogenic feed additive(PFA;PFA1,bitter citrus extract;PFA2,a microencapsulated blend of thymol and carvacrol;PFA3,a mixture of bitter citrus extract,thymol,and carvacrol;PFA4,a premixture of grape seed,grape marc extract,green tea,and hops;PFA5,fenugreek seed powder)on the growth performance,nutrient digestibility,intestinal morphology,and immune response in weaned pigs infected with Escherichia coli(E.coli).Results:A total of 634-week-old weaned pigs were placed in individual metabolic cages and assigned to seven treatment groups.The seven treatments were as follows:1)NC;basal diet without E.coli challenge,2)PC;basal diet with E.coli challenge,3)T1;PC+0.04%PFA1,4)T2;PC+0.01%PFA2,5)T3;PC+0.10%PFA3,6)T4;PC+0.04%PFA4,7)T5;PC+0.10%PFA5.The experiments lasted in 21 d,including 7 d before and 14 d after the first E.coli challenge.In the E.coli challenge treatments,all pigs were orally inoculated by dividing a total of 10 mL of E.coli F18 for 3 consecutive days.The PFA-added groups significantly increased(Pjunctions.
