Acupuncture ameliorates atopic dermatitis by modulating gut barrier function in a gut microbiota-dependent manner in mice

Objective: Atopic dermatitis(AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that may be linked to changes in the gut microbiome. Acupuncture has been proven to be effective in reducing AD symptoms without serious adverse events, but its underlying mechanism is not completely understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the potential effect of acupuncture on AD is gut ***: AD-like skin lesions were induced by applying MC903 topically to the cheek of the *** was done at the Gok-Ji(LI11) acupoints. AD-like symptoms were assessed by lesion scores,scratching behavior, and histopathological changes; intestinal barrier function was measured by fecal output, serum lipopolysaccharide levels, histopathological changes, and mRNA expression of markers involved in intestinal permeability and inflammation. Gut microbiota was profiled using 16S rRNA gene sequencing from fecal ***: Acupuncture effectively improved chronic itch as well as the AD-like skin lesions with epidermal thickening, and also significantly altered gut microbiota structure as revealed by β-diversity indices and analysis of similarities. These beneficial effects were eliminated by antibiotic depletion of gut microbiota,but were reproduced in gut microbiota-depleted mice that received a fecal microbiota transplant from acupuncture-treated mice. Interestingly, AD mice had intestinal barrier dysfunction as indicated by increased intestinal permeability, atrophy of the mucosal structure(reduced villus height and crypt depth), decreased expression of tight junctions and mucus synthesis genes, and increased expression of inflammatory mediators in the ileum. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the progress in light-material interactions(LMIs), focusing on lasers and flash lights for energy conversion and storage applications. We discuss intricate LMI parameters such as light sources, interaction time, and fluence to elucidate their importance in material processing. In addition, this study covers various light-induced photothermal and photochemical processes ranging from melting, crystallization, and ablation to doping and synthesis, which are essential for developing energy materials and devices. Finally, we present extensive energy conversion and storage applications demonstrated by LMI technologies, including energy harvesters, sensors, capacitors, and batteries. Despite the several challenges associated with LMIs, such as complex mechanisms, and high-degrees of freedom, we believe that substantial contributions and potential for the commercialization of future energy systems can be achieved by advancing optical technologies through comprehensive academic research and multidisciplinary collaborations.

In situ thickness control of black phosphorus field-effect transistors via ozone treatment

A simple and reproducible method to control the thickness of black phosphorus flakes in real time using a UV/ozone treatment is demonstrated. Back-gated black phosphorus field-effect transistors （FETs） were fabricated using thick black phosphorus flakes obtained by thinning of black phosphorus, as oxygen radicals generated by UV irradiation formed phosphorus oxides on the surface. In order to monitor the thickness effect on the electrical properties, the fabricated FETs were loaded in the UV/ozone chamber, where both the optical （micro-Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy） and electrical properties （current-voltage characteristics） were monitored in situ. We observed an intensity decrease of the Raman modes of black phosphorus while the field-effect mobility and on/off ratio increased by 48% and 6,800%, respectively. The instability in ambient air limits the investigation and implementation of ultra-thin black phosphorus. However, the method reported in this study allowed us to start with thick black phosphorous flakes, providing a reliable approach for optimizing the electrical performance of black phosphorus-based electronic devices. We believe that these results can motivate further studies using mono- and few-layer black phosphorus.

LOCAL REGULARITY CRITERIA OF A SUITABLE WEAK SOLUTION TO MHD EQUATIONS

We present a regularity condition of a suitable weak solution to the MHD equations in three dimensional space with slip boundary conditions for a velocity and magnetic vector fields. More precisely, we prove a suitable weak solution are HSlder continuous near boundary provided that the scaled mixed Lx,t^p,q-norm of the velocity vector field with 3/p ＋ 2/q 〈 2, 2 〈 q 〈 ∞ is sufficiently small near the boundary. Also, we will investigate that for this 3 2〈3 solution U ∈ Lx,t^p,q with 1 〈 3＋p ＋2/q＋≤3/2, 3 〈 p 〈 ∞, the Hausdorff dimension of its singular set is no greater than max{p, q}（3/q＋2/q- 1）.

Supercritical water oxidation for the destruction of toxic organic wastewaters:A review

The destruction of toxic organic wastewaters from munitions demilitarization and complex industrial chemical clearly becomes an overwhelming problem if left to conventional treatment processes. Two options, incineration and supercritical water oxidation （SCWO）, exist for the complete destruction of toxic organic wastewaters. Incinerator has associated problems such as very high cost and public resentment; on the other hand, SCWO has proved to be a very promising method for the treatment of many different wastewaters with extremely efficient organic waste destruction 99.99% with none of the emissions associated with incineration. In this review, the concepts of SCWO, result and present perspectives of application, and industrial status of SCWO are critically examined and discussed.
