Advancements in sensor technology have significantly enhanced atmospheric monitoring.Notably,metal oxide and carbon(MO_(x)/C)hybrids have gained attention for their exceptional sensitivity and room-temperature sensing performance.However,previous methods of synthesizing MO_(x)/C composites suffer from problems,including inhomogeneity,aggregation,and challenges in micropatterning.Herein,we introduce a refined method that employs a metal–organic framework(MOF)as a precursor combined with direct laser writing.The inherent structure of MOFs ensures a uniform distribution of metal ions and organic linkers,yielding homogeneous MO_(x)/C structures.The laser processing facilitates precise micropatterning(<2μm,comparable to typical photolithography)of the MO_(x)/C crystals.The optimized MOF-derived MO_(x)/C sensor rapidly detected ethanol gas even at room temperature(105 and 18 s for response and recovery,respectively),with a broad range of sensing performance from 170 to 3,400 ppm and a high response value of up to 3,500%.Additionally,this sensor exhibited enhanced stability and thermal resilience compared to previous MOF-based counterparts.This research opens up promising avenues for practical applications in MOF-derived sensing devices.

International guidelines for post-cardiac arrest care recommend using multi-modal strategies to avoid the withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy(WLST)in patients with the potential for neurological recovery.[1]However,a clear methodology for multi-modal approaches has yet to be developed.Neuron-specific enolase(NSE)is currently the only recommended biomarker,and the European Resuscitation Council(ERC)and the European SocietyofIntensiveCareMedicine(ESICM)have proposed a cutoff value of 60μg/L at 48 and/or 72 h after the return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC)as a multimodal prognostic tool for predicting poor neurological outcomes.

Background Genome editing has been considered as powerful tool in agricultural fields.However,genome editing progress in cattle has not been fast as in other mammal species,for some disadvantages including long gestational periods,single pregnancy,and high raising cost.Furthermore,technically demanding methods such as microinjection and somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT)are needed for gene editing in cattle.In this point of view,electroporation in embryos has been risen as an alternative.Results First,editing efficiency of our electroporation methods were tested for embryos.Presence of mutation on embryo was confirmed by T7E1 assay.With first combination,mutation rates for MSTN and PRNP were 57.6%±13.7%and 54.6%±13.5%,respectively.In case of MSTN/BLG,mutation rates were 83.9%±23.6%for MSTN,84.5%±18.0%for BLG.Afterwards,the double-KO embryos were transferred to surrogates and mutation rate was identified in resultant calves by targeted deep sequencing.Thirteen recipients were transferred for MSTN/PRNP,4 calves were delivered,and one calf underwent an induction for double KO.Ten surrogates were given double-KO embryos for MSTN/BLG,and four of the six calves that were born had mutations in both genes.Conclusions These data demonstrated that production of genome edited cattle via electroporation of RNP could be effectively applied.Finally,MSTN and PRNP from beef cattle and MSTN and BLG from dairy cattle have been born and they will be valuable resources for future precision breeding.

Background:The optimal surgical timing and clinical outcomes of ventricular septal defect(VSD)closure in neo-nates remain unclear.We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of VSD closure in neonates(age≤30 days).Methods:We retrospectively reviewed 50 consecutive neonates who underwent VSD closure for isolated VSDs between August 2003 and June 2021.Indications for the procedure included congestive heart failure/failure to thrive and pulmonary hypertension.Major adverse events(MAEs)were deﬁned as the composite of all-cause mortality,reoperation,persistent atrioventricular block,and signiﬁcant(≥grade 2)valvular dysfunction.Results:The median age and body weight at operation were 26.0 days(interquartile range[IQR],18.8–28.3)and 3.7 kg(IQR,3.3–4.2),respectively.The median follow-up duration was 110.4 months(IQR,56.8–165.0).Seven patients required preoperative respiratory support,andﬁve had signiﬁcant(≥grade 2)preoperative valvular dysfunction.One early mortality occurred due to irreversible cardiogenic shock;no late mortality was observed.One reopera-tion was due to hemodynamically signiﬁcant residual VSD at 103.8 months postoperatively.The overall survival,freedom from reoperation,and freedom from MAE at 15-years were 98.0%,96.3%,and 94.4%,respectively.Pre-operative mechanical ventilation was associated with a longer duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation(p<0.001)and a longer length of intensive care unit stay(p<0.001).Conclusions:VSD closure with favorable outcomes without morbidities is feasible even in neonates.However,neonates requiring preoperative respiratory support may require careful postoperative management considering the long-term postoperative risks.Overall,surgical VSD closure might be indicated earlier in neonates with respiratory compromise.

This study was performed to investigate the changes in microbial communities and metabolites during the long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce. Samples of commercial anchovy sauce were collected from large-scale fermentation tanks with fermentation periods of up to 7.87 years. The complex bacterial community was simplified to two genera， Tetragenococcus and Halanaerobium， after approximately 0.55 years of fermentation. Although genera， such as Saccharomyces， Cladosporium， Candida， and Aspergillus， were relatively dominant， no clear pattern was identified in fungal community analysis. The longitudinal metabolite profile demonstrated that approximately half (55.8%) of the metabolites present in anchovy sauce were produced within a year of fermentation due to rapid fermentation. Despite the static microbial community， the contents of several metabolites including amino acids and biogenic amines changed continuously during the long-term fermentation of anchovy sauce. This study provides novel insights into the changes in microbiota and metabolites in fish sauce produced without any starter inoculation.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Catalpa bignonioides fruit extract on the promotion of muscle growth and muscular capacity in vitro and in vivo.Methods:Cell viability was measured using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay.Cell proliferation was assessed using a 5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridine(BrdU)assay kit.Western blot analysis was performed to determine the protein expressions of related factors.The effects of Catalpa bignonioides extract were investigated in mice using the treadmill exhaustion test and whole-limb grip strength assay.Chemical composition analysis was performed using high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Results:Catalpa bignonioides extract increased the proliferation of C2C12 mouse myoblasts by activating the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.It also induced metabolic changes,increasing the number of mitochondria and glucose metabolism by phosphorylating adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase.In an in vivo study,the extract-treated mice showed improved motor abilities,such as muscular endurance and grip strength.Additionally,HPLC analysis showed that vanillic acid may be the main component of the Catalpa bignonioides extract that enhanced muscle strength.Conclusions:Catalpa bignonioides improves exercise performance through regulation of growth and metabolism in skeletal muscles,suggesting its potential as an effective natural agent for improving muscular strength.

We report here a case of pancreatic pseudocystocolic fistula that was treated without surgical or endoscopic intervention.A 76-year-old woman,presenting with a fever and epigastric pain,was referred to our institution.Three months prior to this admission,the patient had been admitted to the hospital for acute pancreatitis.Abdominal computerized tomography(CT)revealed a 9 cm pseudocyst containing air,and a fistular opening was observed via colonoscopy.After colonoscopy,the abdominal pain was slightly improved,the fever subsided and laboratory results showed decreased C-reactive protein levels.The observed improvement was likely due to the cleansing of the bowel,which induced spontaneous drainage from the pseudocyst into the colon.Antibiotic therapy was administered and daily bowel cleansing was performed using a polyethylene glycol solution.After three weeks,a follow-up CT revealed that the size of the pseudocyst had decreased significantly from 9 to 5.3 cm.In addition,laboratory tests were improved.The patient was able to resume a normal diet and was discharged in good overall health from the hospital,without aggravation of the symptoms.A colonoscopy performed 3 mo later and a follow-up CT performed 6 mo later confirmed that both the fistula and pseudocyst had completely disappeared.

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic myomectomy is increasingly used for resecting gynecological tumors.Leiomyomas require morcellation for retrieval from the peritoneal cavity.However,morcellated fragments may implant on the peritoneal cavity during retrieval.These fragments may receive a new blood supply from an adjacent structure and develop into parasitic leiomyomas.Parasitic leiomyomas can occur spontaneously or iatrogenically;however,trocar-site implantation is an iatrogenic complication of laparoscopic uterine surgery.We describe a parasitic leiomyoma in the trocar-site after laparoscopic myomectomy with power morcellation.CASE SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman presented with a palpable abdominal mass without significant medical history.The patient had no related symptoms,such as abdominal pain.Computed tomography findings revealed a well-defined contrast-enhancing mass measuring 2.2 cm,and located on the trocar site of the left abdominal wall.She had undergone laparoscopic removal of uterine fibroids with power morcellation six years ago.The differential diagnosis included endometriosis and neurogenic tumors,such as neurofibroma.The radiologic diagnosis was a desmoid tumor,and surgical excision of the mass on the abdominal wall was successfully performed.The patient recovered from the surgery without complications.Histopathological examination revealed that the specimen resected from the trocar site was a uterine leiomyoma.CONCLUSION Clinicians should consider the risks and benefits of laparoscopic vs laparotomic myomectomy for gynecological tumors.Considerable caution must be exercised for morcellation to avoid excessive tissue fragmentation.

BACKGROUND There is a nationwide shortage of organs available for liver transplantation.Living donors help meet this growing demand.Not uncommonly,donors will have positive autoantibodies.However,it is unclear whether donor positive autoantibodies are correlated with worse outcomes following living liver donor transplantations.AIM To analyze the significance of positive autoantibodies in donors on post-transplant outcomes in recipients.METHODS We performed a retrospective review of living liver donors who had undergone liver transplantation between January 1,2012 and August 31,2021.Demographic characteristics and pre-transplant data including antinuclear antibodies(ANA)and anti-smooth muscle antibody titers were collected in donors.Outcomes of interest were post-transplantation complications including mortality,biliary strictures,biliary leaks,infection,and rejection.Pediatric recipients and donors without measured pre-transplant autoantibody serologies were excluded from this study.RESULTS 172 living donor liver transplantations were performed during the study period,of which 115 patients met inclusion criteria.37(32%)living donors were autoantibody-positive with a median ANA titer of 1:160(range 1:80 to 1:1280)and median anti-SMA titer of 1:40(range 1:20 to 1:160).There were no significant differences in baseline demographics between the autoantibody positive and negative donors.Post-transplantation rates of death(P value=1),infections(P value=0.66),and overall rates of complications(P value=0.52)were similar between the autoantibody positive and negative groups.Higher incidences of anastomotic strictures and rejection were observed in the autoantibody positive group;however,these differences were not statistically significant(P value=0.07 and P value=0.30 respectively).CONCLUSION Isolated pre-transplant autoantibody positivity is not correlated to worse post-transplant outcomes in living liver donor transplants.

Question-Answering Pair Matching Based on Question Classification and Ensemble Sentence Embedding

Question-answering(QA)models find answers to a given question.The necessity of automatically finding answers is increasing because it is very important and challenging from the large-scale QA data sets.In this paper,we deal with the QA pair matching approach in QA models,which finds the most relevant question and its recommended answer for a given question.Existing studies for the approach performed on the entire dataset or datasets within a category that the question writer manually specifies.In contrast,we aim to automatically find the category to which the question belongs by employing the text classification model and to find the answer corresponding to the question within the category.Due to the text classification model,we can effectively reduce the search space for finding the answers to a given question.Therefore,the proposed model improves the accuracy of the QA matching model and significantly reduces the model inference time.Furthermore,to improve the performance of finding similar sentences in each category,we present an ensemble embedding model for sentences,improving the performance compared to the individual embedding models.Using real-world QA data sets,we evaluate the performance of the proposed QA matching model.As a result,the accuracy of our final ensemble embedding model based on the text classification model is 81.18%,which outperforms the existing models by 9.81%∼14.16%point.Moreover,in terms of the model inference speed,our model is faster than the existing models by 2.61∼5.07 times due to the effective reduction of search spaces by the text classification model.
