Immediate and late effects of chronic stress in the testes of prepubertal and adult rats

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic stress on the testes of prepubertal and adult rats and to evaluate whether any alterations could be reversed when stress induction is ended. Seventy-six male rats were assigned to eight groups depending on the type of treatment （control or stressed）, the age at which stress was initiated （prepubertal or adult）, and the time of evaluation （immediate or late）. Stress stimuli were applied for 6 weeks. Stressed prepubertal and adult rats evaluated immediately after the last stress stimulus were included in SP-I and SA-I groups, respectively. The late prepubertal （SP-L） and adult （SA-L） groups of stressed rats were evaluated 6 weeks after the last stress stimulus. Age-matched rats were used as controls （CP-I, CA-I, CP-L, and CA-L groups）. Application of stress stimuli to rats in the SP-I group resulted in body weight and seminiferous tubule diameter reduction. The rats in the SA-I group also showed several functional （testosterone level and sperm parameter） and morphological （testicular weight and seminiferous tubule diameter） reductions. The rats in the SP-L group showed increased body weight and intertubular compartment volumetric and absolute densities and reduced tubular compartment volumetric density. The rats in the SA-L group presented only reduced sperm viability. Stress stimuli promoted changes in the rats in all the study groups. The testes of the adult rats were the most affected by chronic stress. However, the stressed adult rats recovered well from the testicular alterations.

This study hypothesized that different land-use affect the microbial enzymatic stoichiometry and C-,N-,and P-acquisition in Brazilian semiarid ***,the enzymesβ-glucosidase(C-acquiring enzyme),urease(N-acquiring enzyme),and acid phosphatase(P-acquiring enzyme)were assessed in soil samples collected at 0−5 and 5−10 cm depth from a tropical dry forest,a protected area with Angico,a protected area with Ipê,scrub area,and an agricultural area with *** values of C-,N-,and P-acquiring enzymes were used to calculate the enzymatic C:N,C:P,and N:P *** values of C:P and N:P ratios were higher at 0−5 cm depth,while no significant variation,between soil depth,was observed for C:N *** values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes were higher at 0−5 cm in tropical dry forest areas and Angico forest,*** all land use types,the values of vectors L and A were higher than 1°and 45°,*** study showed that both land-use and soil depth influence the enzymatic stoichiometry,showing higher values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes in native and protected forests at soil surface.

AIM: To report a systematic review,establishing the available data to an unpublished 2a strength of evidence,better handling clinical ***: A systematic review was performed using MEDLINE,EMBASE,Cochrane,LILACS,Scopus and CINAHL databases. Information of the selected studies was extracted on characteristics of trial participants,inclusion and exclusion criteria,interventions(mainly,mucosal resection and submucosal dissection vs surgical approach) and outcomes(adverse events,different survival rates,mortality,recurrence and complete resection rates). To ascertain the validity of eligible studies,the risk of bias was measured using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. The analysis of the absolute risk of the outcomes was performed using the software Rev Man,by computingrisk differences(RD) of dichotomous variables. Data on RD and 95%CIs for each outcome were calculated using the Mantel-Haenszel test and inconsistency was qualified and reported in χ2 and the Higgins method(I2). Sensitivity analysis was performed when heterogeneity was higher than 50%,a subsequent assay was done and other findings were ***: Eleven retrospective cohort studies were selected. The included records involved 2654 patients with early gastric cancer that filled the absolute or expanded indications for endoscopic resection. Threeyear survival data were available for six studies(n = 1197). There were no risk differences(RD) after endoscopic and surgical treatment(RD = 0.01,95%CI:-0.02-0.05,P = 0.51). Five-year survival data(n = 2310) showed no difference between the two groups(RD = 0.01,95%CI:-0.01-0.03,P = 0.46). Recurrence data were analized in five studies(1331 patients) and there was no difference between the approaches(RD = 0.01,95%CI:-0.00-0.02,P = 0.09). Adverse event data were identified in eight studies(n = 2439). A significant difference was detected(RD =-0.08,95%CI:-0.10--0.05,P < 0.05),demonstrating better results with endoscopy. Thrombolytic therapy is indicated to the treatment of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction or pulmonary embolism. Its indication should especially consider the risk of bleeding, but other complications might pose harm to patients. Although rarely reported, fibrinolysis can trigger thromboembolic phenomena from emboligenic sources such as aortic aneurysms. Clinicians should be aware of this life-threatening complication. In this case report, we present one patient admitted due to a ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction successfully treated with fibrinolytic treatment, but who evolved with a massive microembolism from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Despite intensive medical care, the patient evolved with multiorganic failure due to distal microembolism to the guts and lower limbs, severe rhabdomyolysis and ultimately to death. In this challenging case, clinical, anatomical and histopathologic features are presented and discussed.

Partial Nephrectomy as Treatment of an Atypical Metastasis from Prostate Cancer—A Case Report and Review of Literature

Background: Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in man and the second in cancer-specific deaths in this population in the world. Most of the causes of death related to prostate cancer are due to its distant metastases, with the most common sites being: skeleton, distant lymph nodes, liver and lung. Renal metastasis is rare, and studies suggest infiltration due to arterial microembolization of the tumor. A key point in this scenario is the clinical suspicion of differential diagnoses, to offer the patient an effective therapy in such a specific case. Aim: To report a case of a patient with prostate cancer undergoing partial nephrectomy whose histopathological report revealed a metastatic lesion of that primary site. Case Presentation: 74 years old man, referred in May 2015 due to high PSA level and lumbago. PSA 323.11 ng/dl, rectal examination cT3a;biopsy was performed and histopathological study reported bilateral prostate adenocarcinoma, Gleason’s score 8 (4 + 4). Patient’s staging showed multiple secondary implants on skeletal scintigraphy. Tomography revealed solid exophytic lesion in the lower pole of the right kidney (4.7 × 3.6 cm);prostate without cleavage planes with seminal vesicles and pelvic node enlargement. Hormone therapy was initiated, PSA levels dropped to 9.51 ng/dl and total testosterone Conclusion: Given the rarity of these cases, it is not possible to presume that nephrectomy enhances the survival rates. However, we observed that partial nephrectomy was a good choice for our patient, being the first case described in the literature. More reports should be available and studies with higher levels of evidence should be conducted to assist us in patient orientation and decision making.
