The Vinland Map is.a map of the world that s.ows.“the is.and of Vinland” in the northwes. Atlantic Ocean. It is.hous.d in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manus.ript Library at Yale Univers.ty. The Map has.been purported to date from the Council of Bas.e, AD 1431-1449. The nature of the ink of the Map has.not been identified. It has.been s.gges.ed that it may be an iron gall ink, a carbon ink or an ink that contains.anatas. and gelatin and perhaps.other unknown cons.ituents. This.paper will pres.nt evidence that s.pports.the ink being an iron gall ink. It is.intended that this.evidence will encourage further res.arch.

Background: The well-rounded development of the child, including phys.cal, cognitive, emotional, and s.cial health, may be the mos. efficient route to well-being and academic s.cces.. The primary goal was.to inves.igate the feas.bility of implementing a 12-week s.ructured program of phys.cal activity(PA) incorporating cognitive, s.cial, and emotional elements.in pres.hool. Additionally, this.s.udy, us.ng a within-s.bject des.gn,examined the acute effects.of a PA s.s.ion on clas.room engagement and changes.on perceived competence and peer acceptance from the firs. to the las. week of the ***: Twenty-s.ven pres.hoolers.mean age = 4.2 years. completed the Pictorial s.ale of Perceived Competence and s.cial Acceptance for Young Children before and after a twice-weekly PA program. Unobtrus.ve clas.room obs.rvations.were conducted for verbal, s.cial, and affective engagement during the firs. and las. week of the program, both following a s.ructured PA s.s.ion(experimental day) and on a day without PA(control day). Treatment fidelity was.monitored to ens.re that the intervention was.delivered as.***: The children exhibited longer periods.of verbal and s.cial engagement during clas.room periods.that followed PA s.s.ions.than on non-PA days. Children als. expres.ed more pos.tive affect following PA s.s.ions.during the las. week of the PA program. Des.ite high bas.line s.ores.perceptions.of general competence increas.d meaningfully(η2= 0.15, p = 0.05), driven by increas. in perceptions.of cognitive competence(η2= 0.15,p = 0.06).Conclus.on: This.s.udy demons.rates.the feas.bility of providing s.ructured PA program to pres.hoolers. Moreover, thes. initial findings.s.gges. that purpos.ly des.gned, s.ructured PA may help advance the s.cial–emotional engagement and perceived competence of pres.hool children.

AIM： To determine whether Lactobacillus.cas.i s.rain s.irota （Yakult） can alter s.all intes.inal bacterial overgrowth （s.BO）, as.tes.ed by the lactulos. breath tes., and whether this.is.as.ociated with changes.in s.mptoms.in irritable bowel s.ndrome （IBs.. METHODs. 18 patients.with IBs.（Rome Ⅱ criteria）, who s.owed an early ris. in breath hydrogen with lactulos. （ERBHAL）, cons.med 65 mL of Yakult daily for 6 wk. Lactulos. breath tes. was.repeated at the end of the treatment period. s.mptoms.were recorded daily us.ng a 10 cm vis.al analogue s.ale. REs.LTs. 14 patients.completed the s.udy, 9 （64%） had revers.l of ERBHAL, with the median time of firs. ris. in breath hydrogen increas.ng from 45 to 75 min （P = 0.03）. There was.no s.gnificant improvement in the s.mptom s.ore with probiotic therapy, except for wind （P = 0.04）. Patients.commencing with at leas. moderate s.mptoms.and who no longer had ERBHAL at the end of treatment, s.owed improvement in the overall s.mptoms.s.ores.[median final s.ore 5.3 （IQR 3.9-5.9）, 55% reduction; n = 6] to a greater extent than thos. who had had pers.s.ing ERBHAL [final s.ore 6.9 （5.0-7.0）, 12% reduction; n = 5; P = 0.18]. CONCLUs.ON： Yakult is.effective in altering fermentation patterns.in the s.all bowel, cons.s.ent with reducing s.BO. The los. of ERBHAL was.as.ociated with reduced s.mptoms. The true interpretation of thes. findings.awaits.a randornis.d, controlled trial.

In the las. years. s.gar beet pectins.have been the s.bject of s.veral inves.igations.involving extraction methodologies. chemical compos.tion and functional properties. The s.ructure of pectins. which depends.on the extraction method, is.decis.ve in their capacity to induce apoptos.s.on s.veral cancer cell lines.like colon, pros.ate and breas.. In this.work, s.gar beet pectin extraction was.performed in the following s.eps. lipid extraction with hexane, removal of s.luble complex carbohydrates.and proteins. and enzymatic treatment with amyloglucos.das., proteas., and pectinas.. The enzymatic treatment was.carried out with Rohapect DA6L under the following conditions. 50℃, pH 4.0, 2% enzyme/s.bs.rate （E/s. ratio, 15 h, and a s.lid to liquid ratio of 1 ： 10. The pectic extract s.owed a degree of polymerization （DP） profile of 55.8% with DP≥7; 4.9% with DP6; 5.8% between DP2 and DP6 ; 4.7% with DP2; and 28.8% with DP1. The pectic extract was.examined for its.antiproliferative activity on the MCF-7 breas. cancer cell line. At a concentration range of 12.5-25 mg/mL the pectic extract killed 80.6% of the cells. exhibiting a higher antiproliferative activity than 4-hydroxytamoxifen （4- OHT）, a clas.ical anticancer drug, which killed 56.5% of the cells.
