Microbial fue. ce.l (MFC) is one.of the.cle.n and sustainable.e.e.gy te.hnologie., ofte. re.e.re. to as re.e.able.e.e.gy, and dire.tly che.ical e.e.gy containe. in organic matte. into e.e.trical e.e.gy by using the.catalytic activity of microorganisms. Ce.lulosic biomass is a particularly attractive.re.e.able.re.ource.for its abundant supply at low cost and its ne.tral carbon balance. Howe.e., me.hanoge.e.is had be.n ne.ative.y linke. to anae.obic ce.lulosic powe. ge.e.ation in MFCs. Ginse.g root is a saponin-rich plant mate.ial and re. ginse.g marc (RGM) has not be.n re.se. as a high-value.re.ource.for industry although its re.idue.containe. both e.e.tron donors and saponin, the.pote.tial powe. ge.e.ation e.hance.s for MFC. In this study, RGM was supple.e.te. into MFC to e.aluate.its e.fe.ts on me.hanoge.e.is and powe. ge.e.ation. Two-chambe. H-type.MFCs we.e.e.tablishe. using rume. fluid as anolyte.to fe.me.t ce.lulose.at 2% (w/v). RGM, the.re.idue.from the.ste.m and pre.s proce.s for re. ginse.g be.e.age.pre.aration, was fre.ze.drie. and ground to pass 0.5 mm sie.e.and adde. to the.anode.of MFC at 1% (w/v;e.p. 1) or 0.1% (e.p. 2) dose.for tre.tme.t. Ope. circuit voltage. voltage.and curre.t across an e.te.nal re.istor we.e.me.sure. daily for 10d. On d10 of ope.ation, colle.te. biogase. we.e.me.sure. for total gas production and analyze. for its compone.ts. In e.p. 1, powe. de.sity was be.we.n 44.0 and 97.2 with an ave.age.of 83.8 mW/m2 in 1% RGM MFCs and was be.we.n 45.2 and 76.3 with an ave.age.of 61.5 mW/m2 in control. In e.p. 2, powe. de.sity was be.we.n 44.8 and 75.6 with an ave.age.of 60.9 mW/m2 in 0.1% RGM MFCs and was be.we.n 45.1 and 54.1 with an ave.age.of 49.7 mW/m2 in control. Total gas production for 10d was 563 and 523 mL for RGM and control, re.pe.tive.y, in e.p 1, and was 546 and 477 mL for RGM and control, re.pe.tive.y, in e.p 2. Me.hane.took up 58.6 and 67.9% of total gas for RGM and control, re.pe.tive
