Effect of patient COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy on hospital care team perceptions

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic posed new challenges in patient care ***,which have proven efficacious in lowering the COVID-19 hospital burden,are still avoided by large ***,therefore,hypothesized that hospital care teams would have worse perceptions regarding the characteristics and care of patients with vaccine *** To evaluate whether patient vaccine hesitancy affected the hospital care team(HCT)*** We performed a prospective clinical study using structured *** approached physicians and nurses with previous experience caring for COVID-19patients from 11 medical centers across Israel during the fourth COVID-19 surge(September and October 2021).The participants completed a questionnaire with the following parts:(1)Sociodemographic characteristics;(2)Assessment of anger(STAXI instrument)and chronic workplace stress(Shirom-Melamed burnout measure);and(3)Three tools to assess the effect of patient vaccine hesitancy on the HCT perceptions(the difficult doctor-patient relation questionnaire,the medical staff perception of patient’s responsibility questionnaire and the characterological derogation questionnaire).Results were evaluated according to each part of the questionnaire and the questionnaire as a *** between HCT perceptions and their baseline characteristics,anger or chronic workplace stress were *** The HCT experienced their relationship with unvaccinated patients as more difficult(P<0.001,Cohen’s d=0.85),perceived unvaccinated patients as responsible for their medical condition(P<0.001,d=1.39)and perceived vaccinated patients as having a higher character value(P<0.001,d=1.03).Unvaccinated patients were considered selfish(P<0.001),less mature(P<0.001)and less satisfying to care for(P<0.001).The relationship with unvaccinated patients was more difficult among HCT with higher burnout(r=0.37,n=66,P=0.002).No correlations with baseline characte

Benoxacor is a safener added to current-use herbicide formulations to protect the target crop from herbicidal *** is an emerging environmental contaminant that has been detected in surface waters,raising the possibility of human exposure via drinking *** it is not subject to the same regulations as active pesticide ingredients,its metabolism and toxicity in humans have not been *** we investigate the enantioselective metabolism of benoxacor in human subcellular *** human liver microsomes(pHLM)and cytosol(pHLC)were incubated with racemic benoxacor for up to *** chromatographic analyses were used to measure the enantioselective depletion of *** with and without nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH,co-factor for cytochrome P450 enzymes[CYPs])and pHLC with glutathione(GSH,co-factor for glutathione Stransferases[GSTs])metabolized *** results demonstrate that microsomal CYPs,microsomal carboxylesterase(CESs),and cytosolic GSTs metabolize *** were predicted to have a higher clearance of benoxacor by GSTs than *** and female pHLM incubations with NADPH showed enrichment of the first eluting benoxacor enantiomer(E1-benoxacor).pHLM incubations without NADPH and pHLC incubations with GSH showed an enrichment of the second eluting enantiomer of benoxacor(E2-benoxacor).Our results indicate that human hepatic microsomal and cytosolic enzymes enantioselectively metabolize benoxacor,a fact that needs to be considered when investigating human exposures and toxicities of benoxacor.

Mortality assessment for pancreas transplants in the United States over the decade 2008-2018

BACKGROUND Pancreas transplant is the only treatment that establishes normal glucose levels for patients diagnosed with ***,since 2005,no comprehensive analysis has compared survival outcomes of:(1)Simultaneous pancreas-kidney(SPK)transplant;(2)Pancreas after kidney(PAK)transplant;and(3)Pancreas transplant alone(PTA)to waitlist *** To explore the outcomes of pancreas transplants in the United States during the decade *** Our study utilized the United Network for Organ Sharing Standard Transplant Analysis and Research ***-and post-transplant recipient and waitlist characteristics and the most recent recipient transplant and mortality status were *** included all patients with type I diabetes listed for pancreas or kidneypancreas transplant between May 31,2008 and May 31,*** were grouped into one of three transplant types:SPK,PAK,or *** The adjusted Cox proportional hazards models comparing survival between transplanted and non-transplanted patients in each transplant type group showed that patients who underwent an SPK transplant exhibited a significantly reduced hazard of mortality[hazard ratio(HR)=0.21,95%confidence intervals(CI):0.19-0.25]compared to those not *** PAK transplanted patients(HR=1.68,95%CI:0.99-2.87)nor PTA patients(HR=1.01,95%CI:0.53-1.95)experienced significantly different hazards of mortality compared to patients who did not receive a *** When assessing each of the three transplant types,only SPK transplant offered a survival advantage compared to patients on the waiting *** and PTA transplanted patients demonstrated no significant differences compared to patients who did not receive a transplant.

Distributed media cooperation for enhanced video communication

The author designed two algorithms for distributed cooperation among multiple video streams sharing common communication resources. The algorithms take advantage of an optimization framework that characterizes video packets such that joint resource allocation can be implemented not only over the packets of a single stream, but also across packets of different streams. The first algorithm enables collaboration among multiple video senders in an 802.11 CSMA/CA wireless network such that their joint performance is maximized. Via the algorithm, the users cooperatively establish transmission priorities based on the assigned characterizations of their video packets. The second technique allows for low-complexity joint bandwidth adaptation of multiple video streams at intermediate network nodes in the Internet in order to maximize the overall network performance. The author analyzes the advantages of the proposed algorithms over conventional solutions employed in such scenarios. It is shown that depending on system parameters such as available network data rate the proposed techniques can provide substantial gains in end-to-end performance.

The Mathematical Theory of Multifocal Lenses(Dedicated to Professor Haim Brezis on the occasion of his 70th birthday)

This paper presents the fundamental optical concepts of designing multifocal ophthalmic lenses and the mathematical methods associated with them. In particular, it is shown that the design methodology is heavily based on differential geometric ideas such as Willmore surfaces. A key role is played by Hamilton's eikonal functions. It is shown that these functions capture all the information on the local blur and distortion created by the lenses. Along the way, formulas for computing the eikonal functions are derived. Finally,the author lists a few intriguing mathematical problems and novel concepts in optics as future projects.

Mixed mode properties of CNT reinforced composites using Arcan test rig

Composite materials reinforced with carbon nanotubes were mechanical tested using Arcan test rig under Mode-I, Mode-II and mixed mode loading conditions to obtain their fracture properties. The butterfly composite specimens were fabricated with 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1 wt % CNTs. The polyester/CNT composite was fabricated using VRTM (Vacuum Resin Transfer Molding) where the CNTs were first functionalised to reach an optimum properties. Arcan test rig was designed and fabricated to work with the Shimadzu testing machine. The results show that the functionalised CNTs have improved the fracture behavior by acting as bridge between the cracked face. In addition, the fracture properties were not improved for the higher weight fraction of 0.1 wt% CNTs.

Structural and microstructural description of relaxor-ferroelectric transition in quenched Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2)TiO_(3)-BaTiO_(3)

Quenching lead-free Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2)TiO_(3)-based ceramics from sintering temperature is established to increasethe depolarization temperature,Td and the lattice *** situ synchrotron X-ray diffractionmeasurements were carried out on furnace cooled and quenched Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2)TiO_(3)-BaTiO_(3)(NBT-BT)with 6and 9 mol.%BT to discern the field-induced ferroelectric *** fractions were determined fromfull pattern Rietveld refinements and utilized together with the change in unit cell volume to calculatevolumetric strain resulting from phase ***-6BT demonstrates a cubic symmetry in thefurnace cooled state but quenching stabilizes the rhombohedral R3c phase and delays the formation of afield-induced,long range-ordered tetragonal phase,thereby shifting the onset of macroscopic strain tohigher fields.A field-induced phase transition from a weakly distorted rhombohedral to tetragonal phasecan be observed in furnace cooled ***,this phase transition cannot be detected inquenched NBT-9BT,since the ferroelectric tetragonal P4mm phase is stabilized in the initial *** to the furnace cooled materials,both the quenched compositions exhibit overall negligiblevolumetric strain as a function of electric ***,scanning electron micrographs of chemi-cally etched,poled and unpoled samples reveal an increased lamellar domain contrast in the *** these findings strengthen the hypothesis of a stabilized ferroelectric order resulting in theabsence of a field-induced phase transformation in quenched NBT-BT.
