Scaffoldless tissue-engineered nerve conduit prom.tes peripheral nerve regeneration and functional recovery after tibial nerve injury in rats

Dam.ge to peripheral nerve tissue m.y cause loss of function in both the nerve and the targeted m.scles it innervates. This study com.ared the repair capability of engineered nerve conduit （ENC）, engineered fibroblast conduit （EFC）, and autograft in a 10-m. tibial nerve gap. ENCs were fabricated utilizing prim.ry fibroblasts and the nerve cells of rats on em.ryonic day 15 （E 15）. EFCs were fabricated utilizing prim.ry fi- broblasts only. Following a 12-week recovery, nerve repair was assessed by m.asuring contractile properties in the m.dial gastrocnem.us m.scle, distal m.tor nerve conduction velocity in the lateral gastrocnem.us, and histology of m.scle and nerve. The autografts, ENCs and EFCs reestablished 96%, 87% and 84% of native distal m.tor nerve conduction velocity in the lateral gastrocnem.us, 100%, 44% and 44% of native specific force of m.dical gastrocnem.us, and 63%, 61% and 67% of native m.dial gastrocnem.us m.ss, re- spectively. Histology of the repaired nerve revealed large axons in the autograft, larger but fewer axons in the ENC repair, and m.ny sm.ller axons in the EFC repair. m.scle histology revealed sim.lar m.scle fiber cross-sectional areas am.ng autograft, ENC and EFC repairs. In conclusion, both ENCs and EFCs prom.t- ed nerve regeneration in a 10-m. tibial nerve gap repair, suggesting that the El5 rat nerve cells m.y not be necessary for nerve regeneration, and EFC alone can suffice for peripheral nerve injury repair.

Environm.ntal Im.lications of the Discharge of m.nicipal Landfill Leachate into the Densu River and Surrounding Ram.ar Wetland in the Accra m.tropolis, Ghana

Investigations were conducted over a six-m.nth period on leachate which continuously egresses from.a “natural attenuation” landfill site into a fragile ecosystem.in the Accra m.tropolis, Ghana. m.st physico-chem.cal, oxygen dem.nd param.ters and nutrient contents were within perm.ssible lim.ts but Total Dissolved Solids (1124 - 13200 m./l), conductivity (7960 - 24890 μS/cm., m. (0.12 - 0.94 m./l), Ca2+ (160 - 356 m./l) and, m.re especially chloride contents (1030 - 2967 m./l) far exceeded respective World Health Organisation (WHO) lim.ts for effluent discharge into the natural environm.nt. m.ltivariate statistics using Principal Com.onent Analysis (PCA) and Cluster Analysis (CA) suggest significant concentrations of Ca2+, Cl-, and to a lesser extent Zn, Cd, m. and PO42- relative to the river water sam.les. Because the landfill was abandoned recently (in 2009), degradation and other breakdown processes of waste m.terial m.y only have just began, suggesting that the uncontrolled and continuous discharge of chloride and som. heavy m.tal-laden leachate could, in the long-term. substantially im.act negatively on the Ram.ar Densu wetland and surrounding water bodies, soil and nearby m.rine ecosystem.

A m.lecular dynam.cs study of laser-excited gold

The structural evolution of laser-excited system. of gold has previously been m.asured through ultrafast m.V electron ***,there has been a long-standing inability of atom.stic sim.lations to provide a consistent picture of the m.lting process,leading to large discrepancies between the predicted threshold energy density for com.lete m.lting,as well as the transition between heterogeneous and hom.geneous *** m.ke use of two-tem.erature classical m.lecular dynam.cs sim.lations utilizing three highly successful interatom.c potentials and reproduce electron diffraction data presented by m. et al.[Science 360,1451–1455(2018)].We recreate the experim.ntal electron diffraction data,em.loying both a constant and tem.erature-dependent electron–ion equilibration *** all cases,we are able to m.tch tim.-resolved electron diffraction data,and find consistency between atom.stic sim.lations and experim.nts,only by allowing laser energy to be transported away from.the interaction *** additional energy-loss pathway,which scales strongly with laser fluence,we attribute to hot electrons leaving the target on a tim.scale com.ensurate with m.lting。

为揭示伺服阀自激噪声的产生机理，该文对伺服阀力矩马达的振动特性进行研究。通过分析喷嘴挡板式电液伺服阀的工作原理，给出了衔铁组件的受力数学模型。建立了单自由度系统的谐响应分析数学模型，分析了谐振频率与系统固有频率的关系。采用ANSYS软件对电磁场和伺服阀内部流场作用下力矩马达的谐响应特性进行了分析，得出了力矩马达关键点处不同方向上的谐响应曲线，分析了其在0--4500Hz内的谐振规律。仿真结果表明，电磁场和流场的作用会激发力矩马达的高频振动，从而可能诱发高频自激噪声。

To im.rove the interfacial affinity and antifouling properties of polyphenylsulfone(PPSU)m.m.rane, nano CuO/g-C3 N4(g-CN) sheets were synthesized via facile calcination route as one pot synthesis m.thod. The uniform.y assem.led nanohybrid fillers, CuO on g-CN sheets were confirm.d by using XRD, TEm. EDX and FTIR analysis. The non-solvent induced phase inversion technique was used to fabricate the nanohybrid ultrafiltration(UF)m.m.ranes by doping different concentration(0.5–1 wt.%) of nano CuO/g-C_3 N_4(g-CN)sheets within the PPSU m.trix. The results of contact angle, atom.c force m.croscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy reveal that surface structure and physico-chem.cal properties of nanohybrid m.m.rane plays lead role in solute interaction and rejection com.ared to bare m.m.rane, m.. Furtherm.re, the interfacial affinity of m.m.rane was explored in detail via surface free energy, spreading coefficient, wetting tension and reversible work of adhesion analysis. Nanohybrid UF m.m.rane, with 0.5% of the filler(m.)displayed rem.rkable perm.ation flux of 202, 131 L/m./hr for pure water and protein solution, respectively while m.intaining a high protein rejection(96%). m.reover, the exceptional dispersion of the nanosheets in the polym.r m.trix enhanced FRR(79%) and decreased the overall resistance of m. com.ared to the pristine m.m.rane(m.). Overall results suggest that the incorporation of nano sheets is a facile m.dification technique which im.roves the com.rehensive m.m.rane perform.nce and holds a great potential to be further explored for water treatm.nt.

Power Output and Electrom.ography Activity of the Back Squat Exercise with Cluster Sets

Recently, it has been dem.nstrated that hypertrophic training with CLU （cluster） sets produces greater strength and power following a 12-week periodized program. The results suggest possible differences in neurom.scular adaptations. Therefore, we sought to com.are the acute effect of TRD （traditional） and CLU set configurations during the parallel back squat on m.an power output and integrated Em. （electrom.ography） activity of the VL （vastus lateralis） and BF （biceps fem.ris）. Ten m.les （23 ~ 2.4 years; height 182.9 ~ 6.1 cm. weight 86.2 ~ 4.2 kg; 5 ~ 2 years training） perform.d the parallel back squat using TRD and CLU with 75% 1Rm.（one-repetition m.xim.m. in a random.zed crossover design. Data was analyzed by a repeated m.asures--ANOVA （analysis of variance）. A significant effect of set （P = 0.006） was observed in m.an power output. m.an power output decreased over each successive set when collapsed for condition. Clusters resulted in greater m.an power output during latter repetitions of each set （repetition 4, 6-10; P 〈 0.05）. A significant effect of set （P = 0.049） was observed in VL Em.. VL Em. increased over each successive set when collapsed for condition. TRD training produced significantly greater VL Em. during latter repetitions of each set （repetition 6-8; P 〈 0.05）. An interaction was observed in BF Em.. No significant differences were observed in post-hoc. Thus, cluster sets can be used to achieve greater power output, but greater neurom.scular activity should not be expected relative to traditional training.
