This paper addresses the modeling of fracture in quasi-brittle materials using a phase-field approach to the description of crack *** the computational mechanics community,several studies have treated the issue of modeling fracture using phase *** of these studies have used an approach that implies the lack of a damage *** herein explore an alternative model that includes a damage threshold and study how it compares with the most popular *** formulation is systematically explained within a rigorous variational ***,we present the corresponding three-dimensional finite element discretization that leads to a straightforward numerical *** simulations in two dimensions and three dimensions are then *** results show that while an elastic stage and a damage threshold are ensured by the present model,good agreement with the results reported in the literature can be obtained,where such features are generally absent.

In this contribution, a comparative study of metallic cobalt micro and nanoparticles obtained in solution by four different chemical routes is reported. Classic routes such as borohydride reduction in aqueous media and the so-called polyol methodology were used to obtain the cobalt nanostructures to be studied. Using CTAB as surfactant, cobalt hollow nanostructures were obtained. The use of strong reducing agents, like sodium borohydride, favors the formation of quasi-monodispersed nanoparticles of about 2 nm size but accompanied with impurities; for hydrazine(a mild reducer), nanoparticles of larger size are obtained which organize in spherical microagglomerates. Valuable information on the particles thermal stability and on nature of the species anchored at their surface was obtained from thermogravimetric curves. The samples to be studied were characterized from UV-vis, IR, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy images(scanning and transmission).

We have previously reported that sequential common artery sectioning (SCAS) in mice produces a reproducible pattern of mortality, extensive brain damage and a wide range of measurable neurobehavioral alterations that include motor incoordination and forelimb flexion. The present study describes a comprehensive method to assess motor functional outcome after brain ischemia produced by SCAS using swimming behavior. We found that after the second artery occlusion the time for completion of the swimming task significantly increased and the swimming pattern alterations observed in the ischemic mice showed no evidence of recovery (up to 96 h). We view the swimming performance strategy described here as a sensitive, simple and economic procedure to assess motor performance after brain ischemia.

Objective:To evaluate the cytotoxic activities of Premna odorata(***)leaves and bark,Artocarpus camansi(***)and gliricidia sepium against selected human cancer cell lines by using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT)***:The crude extracts of ***,*** and gliricidia sepium were subjected to liquid–liquid partitioning by using hexane and ethyl acetate to separate compounds based on their *** fractions were tested for their cytotoxic activity against human colon cancer cell line(HCT116),breast cancer cell line(MCF-7),lung adenocarcinoma cell line(A549)and Chinese hamster ovary cell line(AA8)by using MTT ***:Based on the standard values of toxicity set by the study of Suffness and Pezzuto,*** leaves and *** bark hexane fractions and *** leaves were all considered highly cytotoxic against the selected human cancer cell *** bark hexane extract exhibited the highest selectivity index for HCT116,MCF-7 and A549 cancer cell ***:The results obtained indicated that *** leaves and bark and *** leaves have excellent cytotoxic activity and warrant further studies to isolate novel compounds for chemotherapeutic use.

Introduction: Diabetes is a disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose due to disorders in insulin production, this disease is widely distributed throughout the world. Objective: to review and systematize the general information on diabetes, as well as the traditional treatments and the findings on kombucha as an alternative method. Method: the information retrieval technique or literature review was used on the topics of diabetes, allopathic methods, kombucha, preparation procedures, chemical and microbiological components and pharmacological effects of the drink. Results: Various sources of information were found that explain the definition of diabetes and its classification. it commonly presents in four ways depending on the signs, the common ones being type 1, associated with destruction of the β cells of the pancreas and mainly affects minors, and type 2, which is related to genetic and environmental problems and It affects people over 18 years of age, and less frequently gestational diabetes and MODY type. Traditional drugs such as sulfonylureas, glinides and biguanides, thiazolidinediones and α-glucosidase inhibitors are used to control this disease, or alternative therapies are used such as kombucha, a fermented beverage that has its origins in China and is spread worldwide by its beneficial effects in chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes, due to its chemical and microbiological content. Conclusion: The information establishes important data on kombucha as one of the complementary alternatives for the treatment of diabetes.

Effect of Kombucha and Its Non-Polar Components on Morphological Aspects of the Pancreas of Diabetic Rats with Streptozotocin

Objective: to evaluate the protective effect of kombucha and its components not polar, in pancreas of diabetic rats treated with streptozotocin. Material and methods: ninety-six male Wistar rats of 120 to 170 g of PC were used;four groups of 24 animals were formed: control (gC), control treatment (gCTx), kombucha treatment (gTxK) and treatment with non-polar components of kombucha (gTxCNP). Diabetes was induced in the last three groups with an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW. At the same time, treatment was started in the different groups;gC and gCTx groups were administered, orally, 1 ml of sterile saline solution;to the gTxK group 324 mg/kg of kombucha;and to gTxCNP 0.006 mg/kg of the non-polar components. For the histopathological study, pancreas samples were obtained on days 1, 7, 14 and 21 and fixed in formalin. They were processed with the histological technique, 5-micron-thick sections were made and stained with the hematoxylin-eosin technique. Finally, the number of islets of Langerhans per field observed with the 10x objective was quantified. The results were subjected to a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s test (p Results: Significant changes in the number of islets were observed in histological sections of the pancreas. The groups treated with streptozotocin showed a significant decrease in the number of islets 7 days after starting treatment;Likewise, their number was lower in the gCTx group compared to the gTxK and gTxCNP groups (p ≤ 0.05). At 14 and 21 days, the lowest number of islets was maintained, although only in the gCTx and gTxK groups (p ≤ 0.05). Streptozotocin is a drug that can be used in rats to induce an experimental model of diabetes with an effect that can last up to 21 days. Conclusions: This fermented beverage and its non-polar components can be a complementary treatment alternative for diabetes mellitus, since it prevents further damage to the β cells of the pancreas and the Islets of Langerh

The nanocellulose is a material that has gained much attention in the recent ***,the relevance of Brazil in this field was evaluated concerning the scientific publications in Web of ***,the Brazilian groups were mapped using a bibliometric procedure on these ***,more factors were analyzed from them *** were the sources to extract the nanocellulose in Brazil,the methods to do it,the characterizations to determine its dimensions and the funding agencies of these *** results identified 69 Brazilian ***,the bacterial cellulose was the most common *** the acid hydrolysis was the most used *** its turn,the size characterization was mostly by scanning electron *** last,the most important agencies were the CNPq,the CAPES and the *** these points,it was possible to suggest the opportunities to develop the nanocellulose research in Brazil.

Suicide is defined as the act of a person attempting to take their own life by causing *** is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by a multitude of factors,including psychosocial,cultural,and religious aspects,as well as genetic,biochemical,and environmental *** a biochemical perspective,it is crucial to consider the communication between the endocrine,immune,and nervous systems when studying the etiology of *** pathologies involve the bidirectional communication between the peripheral activity and the central nervous system by the action of molecules such as cytokines,hormones,and *** humoral signals,when present in optimal quantities,are responsible for maintaining physiological homeostasis,including mood *** elevates the cortisol and proinflammatory cytokines levels and alter neurotransmitters balance,thereby increasing the risk of developing a psychiatric disorder and subsequently the risk of suicidal *** review provides an integrative perspective about the neurochemical,immunological,and endocrinological disturbances associated with suicidal behavior,with a particular focus on those alterations that may serve as potential risk markers and/or indicators of the state preceding such a tragic act.
