Natural contamination of human hands with enteric parasites in Indian Subcontinent

AIM: To investigate the prevalence of enteric parasite contamination on hands and the potential role naturally contaminated hands may have in their transmission. METHODS: Prior to initiating the survey, the protocol was reviewed and approved by respective Institutional Review Boards of each survey site(Dhaka, Bangladesh and Kolkata, India). Both stool and corresponding hand wash samples collected, were analyzed for the presence of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts employing conventional microscopy coupled with permanent staining techniques. Additionally molecular approachessuch as polymerase chain reaction(PCR) of enteric parasites recovered from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples, were also used to further confirm their identity. RESULTS: A total of 972 stool samples were collected from both sites surveyed(300 volunteers from Kolkata, India and 672 from Dhaka, Bangladesh). Parasitic analysis revealed, 113(38%) from Kolkata, India and 267(40%) of stool samples from Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. When the corresponding hand wash samples were analyzed, 43(14%) stool-positive volunteers in Kolkata, India and 47(7%) in Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. Ascaris lumbricoides(A. lumbricoides) ova and Giardia lamblia(G. lamblia) cysts predominated in hands wash samples from both sites surveyed(from India, A. lumbricoides ova, 53%; G. lamblia cysts 31% and from Bangladesh, A. lumbricoides ova, 47%; G. lamblia cysts 19%). Genotypic analysis of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts obtained from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples taken from the same person were found to be identical. CONCLUSION: These results suggest a possible role of hands contaminated with enteric parasites' ova/(oo)cysts in the transmission of these parasites highlighting another role of hand hygiene/proper hand washing in reducing the disease burden in low socioeconomic communities.

Salsola imbricata *** acetic acid-induced inflammatory bowel disease by modulating dysregulated antioxidant enzyme system and cytokine signaling pathways in mice

Objective:To explore the protective effect of the crude extract of Salsola imbricata against acetic acid-induced inflammatory bowel disease in mice and its mechanism of ***:Ethanolic crude extract of Salsola imbricata was characterized by *** imbricata extract at different doses was administered and ulcerative colitis was induced by 200μL,7.5%acetic acid and macroscopic parameters were evaluated to assess the homeostatic condition of intestinal mucosa along with hematological and biochemical *** levels of malondialdehyde,glutathione peroxidase 1,superoxide dismutase,and catalase were determined in colon *** cytokines including interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)were quantified by *** extent of tissue damage was assessed by histological ***:Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of phytochemicals including quercetin,gallic acid,syringic acid,benzoic acid and chlorogenic acid in the crude *** crude extract of Salsola imbricata(300 and 500 mg/kg)markedly decreased malondialdehyde and nitric oxide(P<0.01)and increased antioxidant activities of glutathione peroxidase 1(P<0.001)and superoxide dismutase(P<0.001).Moreover,it decreased the levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-αsignificantly(P<0.001)and reduced the damage to the colon mucosa,promoting tissue healing and ***:Salsola imbricata extract restores the colonic epithelial layers by maintaining mucosal homeostasis and cell integrity by modulating antioxidant defense system and inflammatory cytokine signaling in ulcerative colitis mice.

VIBRATION OPTIMIZATION OF A PASSIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM VIA GENETIC ALGORITHM

In this paper,we have formulated mathematical models to optimize the bouncing transmissibility of the sprung mass of the half car system with passengers’seat suspensions considering different road *** corresponding problem has been solved with the help of advanced real coded Genetic Algorithm(GA).The nonlinearity of suspension spring and damper,which are the most important characteristics of the suspension,has been taken into account in order to validate the model to real *** nonlinear cubic polynomial has been used to describe the spring characteristic and a quadratic polynomial has been used to describe the damper *** coefficients of each polynomial represent the design parameters of the suspension system and are to be *** find these parameters we have formulated a nonlinear optimization problem in which the bouncing transmissibility of the sprung mass at the center of mass has been minimized with respect to technological constraints and the constraints which satisfy the performance as per ISO 2631 *** advanced real coded GA has been used to solve this problem in time domain and the results obtained have been compared to those obtained using the existing design *** objective function and the constraints have been evaluated by simulating the vehicle model over two roads with multiple bumps at uniform velocity.

The continuous monitoring of the machine is beneficial in improving its process reliability through reflected power function *** is substantial for identifying and removing errors at the early stages of production that ultimately benefit the firms in cost-saving and quality *** current study introduces control charts that help the manufacturing concerns to keep the production process in *** presents an exponentially weighted moving average and extended exponentially weighted moving average and then compared their *** percentiles estimator and the modified maximum likelihood estimator are used to constructing the control *** findings suggest that an extended exponentially weighted moving average control chart based on the percentiles estimator performs better than exponentially weightedmoving average control charts based on the percentiles estimator and modified maximum likelihood ***,these results will help the firms in the early detection of errors that enhance the process reliability of the telecommunications and financing industry.

Financial frictions and the cash flow – external financing sensitivity: evidence from a panel of Pakistani firms

This paper uses a large panel of Pakistani non-financial firms over the period 2000-2013 to examine the role of financial constraints in establishing the relationship between cash flow and external *** results reveal that there exists a negative and significant relationship between external financing and cash *** finding of the substitutionary relation between internal funds availability and external financing has been viewed as evidence supporting the pecking order theory of capital ***,we show that this negative relationship is weak in case of financially constrained *** also analyze how credit multiplier affects external financing decisions of financially constrained and unconstrained *** results show that for financially unconstrained firms,the negative sensitively of external financing increases with asset ***,for financially constrained firms,the negative sensitivity of external financing to cash flow either decreases or turns positive as the tangibility of assets *** finding implies that financially constrained firms benefit more from investing in tangible assets because such assets not only help relax financial constraints but also having a potential to be a direct source of funds in periods of negative cash flow shocks.

Control Charts for the Shape Parameter of Power Function Distribution under Different Classical Estimators

In practice,the control charts for monitoring of process mean are based on the normality *** the performance of the control charts is seriously affected if the process of quality characteristics departs from *** such situations,we have modified the already existing control charts such as Shewhart control chart,exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA)control chart and hybrid exponentially weighted moving average(HEWMA)control chart by assuming that the distribution of underlying process follows Power function distribution(PFD).By considering the situation that the parameters of PFD are unknown,we estimate them by using three classical estimation methods,i.e.,percentile estimator(P.E),maximum likelihood estimator(MLE)and modified maximum likelihood estimator(MMLE).We construct Shewhart,EWMA and HEWMA control charts based on P.E,MLE and *** have compared all these control charts using Monte Carlo simulation studies and concluded that HEWMA control chart under MLE is more sensitive to detect an early shift in the shape parameter when the distribution of the underlying process follows power function distribution.

Smart home devices are vulnerable to a variety of *** matter gets more complicated when a number of devices collaborate to launch a colluding attack(e.g.,Distributed-Denial-of-Service(DDoS))in a network(e.g.,Smart home).To handle these attacks,most studies have hitherto proposed authentication protocols that cannot necessarily be implemented in devices,especially during Device-to-Device(D2D)*** into the potential of Ethereum blockchain and smart contracts,this work proposes a lightweight authentication mechanism that enables safe D2D interactions in a smart *** Ethereum blockchain enables the implementation of a decentralized prototype as well as a peer-to-peer distributed ledger *** work also uses a single server queuing system model and the authentication mechanism to curtail DDoS attacks by controlling the number of service requests in the *** simulation was conducted twenty times,each with varying number of devices chosen at random(ranging from 1 to 30).Each requester device sends an arbitrary request with a unique resource requirement at a *** is done to measure the system's consistency across a variety of device *** experimental results show that the proposed protocol not only prevents colluding attacks,but also outperforms the benchmark protocols in terms of computational cost,message processing,and response times.

Cascade-exciton model analysis of mass dependence of pion-induced fission

The cascade-exciton model has been used to observe the dependence of pion induced fission cross sections on the mass of the target. The analysis has been performed at energies 80 MeV, 100 MeV and 150 MeV for both the positive and negative pions. It has been shown that a single value of the ratio af/an can satisfactorily reproduce the experimental findings when compared with the available experimental data in the literature. The general trend of the fission cross sections with mass （fissility parameter） is seen to be low and slowly changing for the lighter nuclei, and it will steeply rise for the heavy nuclei.
