Petrographic composition of coal within the Benue Trough,nigeria and a consideration of the paleodepositional setting

The petrographic composition of Cretaceous-age coals hosted in the Benue Trough,nigeria is presented and discussed in terms of the paleodepositional settings that infuenced the coal-bearing *** Benue Trough is a failed arm of the triple junction of an inland sedimentary basin that extends in a nE-SW direction from the Gulf of Guinea in the south,to the Chad Basin in the north.A total of twenty-nine(29)coal samples were obtained from nineteen coal localities in the Upper(UBT),middle(mBT),and Lower Benue Trough(LBT).The high average volatile matter yield,low average ash yield,high calorifc value(24.82 mJ/kg,on average),and low sulphur values indicate good quality coal *** organic matter is dominated by vitrinite,reported at an average of 59.3%by volume(mineral-matter free).Variation was noted in the inertinite content across three *** macerals were not commonly observed in the studied samples and were absent in the mBT *** facies studies decipher the paleoenvironmental conditions under which the vegetation *** commonly used are the gelifcation index(GI),tissue preservation index(TPI),ground water index(GWI and variations),vegetation index(VI),and wood index(WI).Comparing the array of coal facies models applied,the mBT samples difer from the UBT and LBT samples,concurring with the coal quality *** UBT and LBT coals formed in an upper deltaic to drier piedmont plane depositional environment,while the mBT coal formed in a lower deltaic marsh to wet forest swamp depositional *** samples indicate an ombrotrophic *** view of the modifed equations and the plots used,interpreting depositional environments from just a single model is not reliable.

Friction between two contacting surfaces is studied *** of the k n o w n friction theories is Amontons,law which states that the friction force is proportional to the normal ***,Amontons7 law has been found to be invalid for *** the present study,the validity of Amontons7 law for short-cut aramid fiber reinforced elastomers is *** types of fillers are used to reinforce the elastomers,namely highly dispersible silica and short-cut aramid ***-cut aramid fibers with two different surface treatments are used,namely non-reactive fibers with standard oily finish(SF-fibers)and fibers treated with an epoxy coating(EF-fibers).A pin-on-disc tribometer is used to investigate the frictional behavior of the composites in sliding contact with a granite counter *** results show that,after the run-in phase,Amontons,law is valid for those composites that are reinforced by short-cut aramid fibers(without reinforcing filler,i.e.,silica)if the contact pressure is below a threshold ***,once the contact pressure exceeds this threshold value,Amontons'law will be *** threshold contact pressure of the composites containing EF-fibers is higher than of the composites containing *** composites that are reinforced by silica and short-cut aramid fibers do not follow Amontons7 law.

The main purpose of the present paper is to explore hypersurface homogenous space time in Brans dicke theory of gravitation in terms of the dark energy source. To obtain solution of the field equation, we have taken into account the relation between φ and the average scale factor a. The volumetric expansions are considered to get deterministic solutions. Physical properties of the models are also discussed in detail.

We report a ring cavity passively harmonic mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser(TdFL)using a newly devel-oped single-wall carbon nanotube-based saturable *** TdFL generates the 25 th harmonic mode-locked stretched pulse train with a high repetition rate of 213mHz and a pulse duration of *** laser operates at 1901.6nm with an average power of 1.89mW,which corresponds to the pulse energy of 0.008nJ,at 1552nm pump power of *** peak-to-background ratio is measured to be 60dB,which indicates the stability of the laser.

Sensory quality of meat from eight different types of cattle in relation with their biochemical characteristics

The present study compared eight breeds of cattle differing in gender （heifers, buls and steers） to determine associations between muscle characteristics and meat sensory qualities of theLongissimus thoracis muscle. Animal types differed in al the muscle characteristics and sensory qualities. many correlations among muscle characteristics and among sensory qualities were consistent for most animal types. Isocitrate dehydrogenase （ICdH） activities alowed discrimination of muscles with respect to myosin heavy chain （myHC）-I proportions for al animal types. Lactate dehydrogenase （LdH） and phos-phofructokinase （PFK） activities were positively correlated for most animal types. Overal liking was correlated with beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour in al animal types and with global tenderness for al animal types except for Charolais cross breed steers. For al animal types except for Angus×Friesian heifers, beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour were negatively correlated. Overal liking was not correlated with juiciness. PFK, ICdH and citrate synthase （CS） activities were strongly associated with tenderness, beef lfavour and overal liking when average values for al animal types were used. However, associations between muscle characteristics and sensory qualities within animal types were weak and inconsistent.

Phytochrome A （phyA） is the dominant photoreceptor of far-red light sensing in Arabidopsis thaliana, phyA accumulates at high levels in the cytoplasm of etiolated seedlings, and light-induced phyA signaling is mediated by a com- plex regulatory network. This includes light- and FHY1/FHL protein-dependent translocation of native phyA into the nucleus in vivo. It has also been shown that a short n-terminal fragment of phyA （PHYA406） is sufficient to phenocopy this highly regulated cellular process in vitro. To test the biological activity of this n-terminal fragment of phyA in planta, we produced transgenic phyA-201 plants expressing the PHYA406-YFP （YELLOW FLUORESCEnT PROTEIn）-dd, PHYA406- YFP-dd-nLS （nuclear localization signal）, and PHYA406-YFP-dd-nES （nuclear export signal） fusion proteins. Here, we report that PHYA406-YFP-dd is imported into the nucleus and this process is partially light-dependent whereas PHYA406-YFP-dd-nLS and PHYA406-YFP-dd-nES display the expected constitutive localization patterns. Our results show that these truncated phyA proteins are light-stable, they trigger a constitutive photomorphogenic-like response when localized in the nuclei, and neither of them induces proper phyA signaling. We demonstrate that in vitro and in vivo PHYA406 Pfr and Pr bind COP1, a general repressor of photomorphogenesis, and co-localize with it in nuclear bodies. Thus, we conclude that, in planta, the truncated PHYA406 proteins inactivate COP1 in the nuclei in a light-independent fashion.

near-infrared studies of nova V5584 Sgr in the pre-maximum and early decline phase

We present near-infrared spectroscopic and photometric observations of nova V5584 Sgr taken during the first 12 d following its discovery on Oct. 26.439 UT2009. The evolution of the spectra is shown from the initial P Cygni phase to an emission line phase. The prominent carbon lines seen in the JHK spectra closely match those observed in an Fe II class nova outburst. The spectra show first-overtone CO bands in emission between 2.29-2.40 μm. By examining WISE and other publicly available data, we show that the nova underwent a pronounced dust formation phase between February- April 2010.

Volume negative ion production relies on a magnetic filter(mF),where the plasma downstream of the mF is characterized by a strip-like pattern that consists of a bright and dense plasma *** this work,we study,in a radio-frequency plasma source,the effects of operating pressure on this *** investigation,conducted using a Langmuir probe,shows that the plasma uniformity might be controlled through the gas ***,the operating pressure determines on which hemi-cylinder(side of magnetic field lines)the strip *** side inversion of the high-density plasma hemi-cylinder is due to an inversion of an ambipolar electric field that changes the E?×?B drift direction.

We report the detection of aγ-ray bubble spanning at least 100deg2 in ultra-high energy(UHE)up to a few PeV in the direction of the star-forming region Cygnus X,implying the presence super PeVatron(s)accelerating protons to at least 10 PeV.A log-parabola form with the photon indexΓ(E)=(2.71±0.02)+(0.11±0.02)×log10(E/10 TeV)is found fitting the gamma-ray energy spectrum of the bubble *** sources,“hot spots”correlated with very massive molecular clouds,and a quasi-spherical amorphousγ-ray emitter with a sharp central brightening are observed in the *** the core of~0.5°,spatially associating with a region containing massive OB association(Cygnus OB2)and a microquasar(Cygnus X-3),as well as previously reported multi-TeV sources,an enhanced concentration of UHEγ-rays is observed with 2 photons at energies above 1 *** general feature of the bubble,the morphology,and the energy spectrum,are reasonably reproduced by the assumption of a particle accelerator in the core,continuously injecting protons into the ambient medium.
