Tai Chi for Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus:A Systematic Review

Objective： Tai chi has been recommended for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate evidence from controlled clinical trials testing the effectiveness of tai chi in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods： Systematic searches were conducted on 14 electronic databases without restrictions on either population characteristics or language of publication. The outcome measures considered for inclusion were changes in fasting blood glucose （FBG）, glycosylated haemoglobin A1c （HbA1c） and quality of life （QOL）. Results： Eight randomised clinical trials （RCTs） and two controlled clinical trials （CCTs） met all inclusion criteria. Three RCTs from 1 trial compared the effects of tai chi with sham exercise and failed to show effectiveness of tai chi on FBG, HbA1c, or QOL. The other 3 RCTs tested the effects of tai chi compared with other types of exercise on FBG. The meta-analysis failed to show an FBG-lowering effect of tai chi [n=118, weighted mean difference （WMD）： -0.14 mmol/L, 95% CI：-0.86 to 0.58,P=0.70]. Four studies （2 RCTs and 2 CCT） compared tai chi with no treatment or self-management programme and failed to report significant differences between the experimental and control groups except for QOL from 1 RCT and 1 CCT. Conclusion： The existing evidence does not suggest that tai chi is an effective therapy for type 2 diabetes. Currently, there are few high-quality trials on which to make definitive judgements.

An Efficient Organic Additive to Control the Crystallization Rate of Aliphatic Polyketone: A Non-isothermal Crystallization Kinetics Study

Three types of organic compounds--two carboxylic acids and an anhydride, were used as additives for polyketone （PK）. The effect of the additive structure and their feed ratios on the melting temperature, crystallization temperature, and crystallization rate of PK were studied. We found that the crystallization temperature could be reduced significantly by introducing a small quantity of organic additive, in particular, an anhydride. On addition of 1 phr of anhydride, the crystallization temperature was reduced by 10.7 ℃. Therefore, the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of aliphatic PKjanhydride blends with various feed ratios was investigated using DSC. The results were analyzed by various theoretical models, such as Avrami, Ozawa and combined Avrami-Ozawa models.

Enhanced electrical and optical properties of single- layered MoS2 by incorporation of aluminum

Electrical and optical enhancements of single-layer semiconducting materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides have recently been studied to achieve sensitive properties via external treatments, such as the formation of organic/ inorganic protecting layers on field-effect transistors （FETs）, thermal annealing, and nano-dot doping of sensors and detectors. Here, we propose a new analytical approach to electrical and optical enhancement through a passivation process using atomic layer deposition （ALD）, and demonstrate a synthesized MoS2 monolayer incorporated with A1 atoms in an A1203 passivation layer. The incorporated A1 atoms in the MoS2 monolayer are dearly observed by spherical aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy （Cs-STEM） and TEM-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results. We demonstrate that the chemically incorporated FETs exhibit highly enhanced mobilities of approximately 3.7 crn2-V-los-1, forty times greater than that of as-synthesized MoS2, with a three- fold improvement in the Dhotoluminescence properties.

High strength SiC whisker-reinforced Ti3SiC2 composites(SiCw/Ti3SiC2)with an improved thermal conductivity and mechanical properties were fabricated by spark plasma *** bending strength of 10 wt%SiCw/Ti3SiC2 was 635 MPa,which was approximately 50%higher than that of the monolithic Ti3SiC2(428 MPa).The Vickers hardness and thermal conductivity(k)also increased by 36%and 25%,respectively,from the monolithic Ti3SiC2 by the incorporation of 10 wt%*** remarkable improvement both in mechanical and thermal properties was attributed to the fine-grained uniform composite microstructure along with the effects of incorporated *** SiCw/Ti3SiC2 can be a feasible candidate for the in-core structural application in nuclear reactors due to the excellent mechanical and thermal properties.

EAFoC： Enterprise Architecture Framework Based on Commonality

The recent rapid development in information systems （ISs） has resulted in a critical need for integration and interoperability between heterogeneous ISs in various domains, using specific commonalities. However, stovepipe systems have been caused due to inconsistencies in planning IS architecture among stakeholders. So far, there has been no research on an enterprise architecture framework （EAF） that can satisfy with the coefficient factors of system architecture （SA） and enterprise architecture （EA）. This paper proposes a new EAF that can resolve the problems inherent in existing legacy EAFs and their features. EAFoC （Enterprise Architecture Framework based on Commonality） is based on commonality that can be satisfied as the coefficient factors in both SA and EA within a common information technology （IT） domain. Thus, it should be possible to integrate an established heterogeneous framework for each stakeholder＇s view. Consequently, the most important contribution of this paper is to establish the appropriate EAFoC for the development of consistent IS architecture, smooth communication among stakeholders, systematic integration management of diversified and complicated new IT technologies, interoperability among heterogeneous ISs, and reusability based on commonality with other platforms.

Reconstruction of Rabbit Corneal Layer Composed of Corneal Fibroblasts and Corneal Epithelium on the Lyophilized Amniotic Membrane

Many researchers have employed the cryopreserved amniotic membrane（CAM） and corneal epithelial cells in the treatment of a severely damaged burned cornea, with corneal epithelial cells cultured on an amniotic membrane （AM）. The lyophilized amniotic membrane（LAM） has a higher graft take and a longer shelf life; it is easier to store and safer because of gamma irradiation. Two Teflon rings（ Ahn＇s supporter） were made for culturing the cells on the LAM, and were then used to support the LAM. To reconstruct a corneal layer composed of corneal fibroblasts and epithelium, the corneal fibroblasts were first cultivated on the stromal side of LAM for five days, foUowed by epithelial cells culture on the epithelial side, by using the air-liquid interface culture. The reconstructed corneal layer composed of corneal fibroblasts and corneal epithelial cells has a much healthier basal layer of corneal epithelium than the reconstructed corneal epithelium, which was got by using only corneal epithelial cells, and resembles the epithelium of normal corneas, without the horny layer. Thus, the reconstruction of the corneal layer by using a LAM is considered to be a good in vitro model, not only for its application in toxicological test kits, but also for transplantation in patients with a severely damaged cornea.

Acceleration histories of each measurement location under normal traffic are recorded for 30 minutes at *** recor- ded histories are divided into individual vibrations and are combined into two groups aceording to the level of vibration;one by heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses and the other by light vehicles such as passenger *** processing of the two groups of signals shows that,for the middle and long-span bridges,the difference can be hardly detected,but,for the short span bridges whose mass is relatively small,the measured natural frequencies can change up to 5.4%.

Involvement of lymphocytes in dextran sulfate sodium-induced experimental colitis

AIM： To investigate the roles of lymphocytes in the development of dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis. METHODS： Using various doses of dextran sulfate sodium （DSS）, we induced colitis in wild-type B6 control and Rag-1 knockout （H-2b haplotype） mice, and evaluated the colitis in terms of symptomatic and histologic parameters, such as weight loss, survival, severity of diarrhea, shortage of colon length and histological changes. Symptomatic parameters were checked daily and histological changes were scored. RESULTS： Although development of colitis in Rag-1 knockout mice treated with high dose （5%） of DSS was comparable to that in B6 control mice, colitis progression was much more tolerable in Rag-1 knockout mice compared to than in B6 mice treated with low dose （1.5%） DSS. Symptomatic parameters as well as histopathologic changes were improved in Rag-1 knockout mice. CONCLUSION： These results indicate that the presence of lymphoo/tes contributes to colitis progression at low dose of DSS stimulation. Lymphoo/tes may play roles as an aggravating factor in DSS-induced colitis.

Background Acupotomy,a more invasive procedure than acupuncture,involves the use of a thicker needle with an integrated knife at the tip,necessitating safety *** aimed to define relevant adverse events(AEs)and create a standardized form of the ACUPOtomy-related AEs CHECKlist(ACUPOCHECK).Methods Before conducting the Delphi process,a systematic review and pilot prospective study were conducted to gather information on previously reported *** these data,pilot versions of the ACUPOCHECK and Delphi questionnaires were *** Delphi questionnaire involved selecting types of AE for inclusion,establishing separate criteria for acupotomy-related AEs,and achieving a consensus on AE *** Korean doctors with experience in acupotomy or AE research were recruited to participate in each Delphi *** was considered to have been reached if the critical value for the content validity ratio met or exceeded *** The final ACUPOCHECK was developed using four rounds of the Delphi method and one face-to-face consensus *** included 12 local AEs(pain,hemorrhage,bruise,hematoma,edema,pruritus,rash,infection,nerve damage,dysesthesia,movement impairment,and pneumothorax)and 14 systemic AEs(disease aggravation,needle fatigue,sleepiness,procedural nausea,procedural vomiting,procedural headache,procedural dizziness,sweating,procedural shock,syncope,dyspnea,procedural pain,sleep disorder,and postprocedural infection).Separate criteria were established for pain,hemorrhage and bruising:pain was defined as pain that occurrs during daily activities and persists for longer than 72 h,hemorrhage as bleeding that continues for≥3 min despite pressure application,and bruising as having a bruise with a diameter of≥3 ***-ended descriptions were allowed for AEs not covered by the checklist,and severity and causality were assessed using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events and modified World Health Organization-Uppsala Monitoring C

Rapid re-emergence of YMDD mutation of hepatitis B virus with hepatic decompensation after lamivudine retreatment

Lamivudine has a high rate of antiviral resistance. Sequential treatment of anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) is commonly used for lamivudine resistance. We report 4 cases of patients with rapid redetection of HBV mutants during the lamivudine retreatment. The four patients received lamivudine as an initial treatment of HBV and adefovir and lamivudine as a rescue therapy consecutively. HBV-DNA level, YMDD mutations and adefovir -resistant mutations (RFMP) were tested every 3 mo during the sequential treatment. All the patients showed YMDD mutations during the initial lamivudine therapy. After adefovir therapy for lamivudine resistance, they showed viral breakthrough. Adefovir was switched to lamivudine, however, it did not induce viral suppression at all, rather increased HBV-DNA with rapid reemergence of the YMDD mutations. All the patients had ALT flares, and hepatic decompensation occurred in two patients. After switching to adefovir combined with entecavir or lamivudine for a rescue therapy, the patients had reduction in HBV-DNA and ALT improvement. These cases demonstrated that lamivudine retreatment of patients with preexposed lamivudine resistance leads to rapid reemergence of YMDD mutation with significant viral rebounds and subsequent hepatic decompensation. Sequential administration of lamivudine in patients with a prior history of YMDD mutation should be abandoned.
