Comparison of magnetic properties of DNA-cetyltrimethyl ammonium complex with those of natural DNA

We prepared the DNA-cetyltrimethyl ammonium complex, as well as the same complex intercalated with stable organic free radicals, and studied their magnetic properties by electron magnetic resonance (EMR) spectroscopy and by measuring the magnetization on a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). The UV-vis and CD spectra of DNA-quaternary alkyl ammonium complex (DNA--Q+) in organic solvent clearly demonstrated that it retained the double helical B-form conformation. The interhelical spacing of double strand DNA (dsDNA) increased when the counter ions (Na+) of phosphate groups of the natural DNA were replaced with the long alkyl quaternary ammonium groups. The inter-helical distance of DNA-cetyltrimethyl ammonium (CTMA) was 39.1  as confirmed by X-ray diffractometry. In general, the magnetization of the DNA-CTMA complex solid was found to be significantly lower than that of natural DNA. Moreover, intercalation of the complex with stable organic free radicals did not improve magnetization, which again was in marked contrast to natural DNA. EMR spectroscopic behavior of the complex in the solid state also was quite different from that of natural DNA: The unique broad EMR signal of natural DNA in the low field region with g-value greater than 10 disappeared in the DNA-CTMA complex.

Magnesium citrate with a single dose of sodium phosphate for colonoscopy bowel preparation

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of magnesium citrate and a single dose of oral sodium phosphate(45 mL) solution for morning colonoscopy bowel preparation. METHODS:A total of 159 patients were randomly assigned to receive two split doses of 90 mg of sodium phosphate(GroupⅠ,n=79) or magnesium citrate(250 mL,the day before the procedure) followed by 45 mL of sodium phosphate(the day of procedure,GroupⅡ,n= 80) .The quality of bowel cleansing and the acceptability of each regimen were compared,including the satisfaction,taste,willing to repeat and adverse effects of each regimen. RESULTS:The quality of bowel cleansing of GroupⅡ was as good as that of GroupⅠ(An Aronchick scale score of good or excellent:70.9%vs 81.0%,respectively,P=0.34;the Ottawa system score:4.4±2.6 vs 3.8 ±3.0,respectively,P=0.76) .There was no statisticallysignificant difference between both groups with regard to acceptability,including the satisfaction,taste and willingness to repeat the regimen.A significantly greater number of older patients(over 65 years old) in Group Ⅱgraded the overall satisfaction as satisfactory(48.1% vs 78.1%,respectively;GroupⅠvs GroupⅡ,P=0.01) . There were no significant adverse reactions. CONCLUSION:Magnesium citrate and a single dose of sodium phosphate was as effective and tolerable as the conventional sodium phosphate regimen and is a satisfactory option.

Integration of the nuclease protection assay with sandwich hybridization (NPA-SH) for sensitive detection of Heterocapsa triquetra

Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms that function as primary producers in aquatic ecosystems. Some species of microalgae undergo rapid growth and cause harmful blooms in marine ecosystems. Heterocapsa triquetra is one of the most common bloom-forming species in estuarine and coastal waters worldwide. Although this species does not produce toxins, unlike some other Heterocapsa species, the high density of its blooms can cause significant ecological damage. We developed a H. triquetra species-specific nuclease protection assay sandwich hybridization（NPA-SH） probe that targets the large subunit of ribosomal RNA（LSU r RNA）. We tested probe specificity and sensitivity with five other dinoflagellates that also cause red tides. Our assay detected *** at a concentration of 1.5×10^4 cells/m L, more sensitive than required for a red-tide guidance warning by the Korea Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2015（3.0×10^4 cells/m L）. We also used the NPA-SH assay to monitor H. triquetra in the Tongyeong region of the southern sea area of Korea during 2014. This method could detect *** cells within 3 h. Our assay is useful for monitoring H. triquetra under field conditions.

High-throughput compositional mapping of triple-cation tin-lead perovskites for high-efficiency solar cells

Mixed tin-ead perovskites suffer from structural instability and rapid tin oxidation;thus,the investigation of their optimal composition ranges is important to address these inherent *** critical role of triple cations in mixed Sn–Pb iodides is studied by performing a wide range of compositional screenings over mechanochemically synthesized bulk and solution-processed thin films.A ternary phase map of FA(Sn_(0.6)Pb_(0.4))I_(3),MA(Sn_(0.6)Pb_(0.4))I_(3),and Cs(Sn_(0.6)Pb_(0.4))I_(3)is formed,and a promising composition window of(FA_(0.6-x)MA_(0.4)Cs_(x))Sn_(0.6)Pb_(0.4)I_(3)(0≤x≤0.1)is demonstrated through phase,photoluminescence,and stability *** cell performance and chemical stability across the targeted compositional space are investigated,and FA_(0.55)MA_(0.4)Cs_(0.05)Sn_(0.6)Pb_(0.4)I_(3)with strain-relaxed lattices,reduced defect densities,and improved oxidation stability is *** inverted perovskite solar cells with the optimal composition demonstrate a power conversion efficiency of over 22%with an open-circuit voltage of 0.867 V,which corresponds to voltage loss of 0.363 V,promising for the development of narrow-bandgap perovskite solar cells.

“One stone,two birds”solvent system to fabricate microcrystalline cellulose–Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)nanocomposite film as a flexible dielectric and thermally conductive material

A strategy for fabricating microcrystalline cellulose–Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)(MCC–MXene)nanocomposite films with high relative permittivity,high thermal conductivity,and excellent mechanical properties was *** MCC–MXene nanocomposite film was fabricated by casting a solution containing N,N-dimethylacetamide/lithium chloride(DMAc/LiCl)-soluble MCC and DMAcdispersible MXene nanosheets,followed by humidity control *** MXene nanosheets greatly enhanced the permittivity of the nanocomposite films owing to interfacial ***,the nanocomposite film with 20 wt.%MXene content achieved a desirable permittivity of 71.4 at 102 Hz(a 770%improvement against that of neat cellulose),while the dielectric loss only increased by 1.8 times(from 0.39 to 0.70).The obtained nanocomposite films with 20 wt.%and 30 wt.%MXene exhibited remarkable in-plane thermal conductivities of 8.523 and 9.668 W∙m^(−1)∙K^(−1),respectively,owing to the uniform dispersion and selfalignment of the MXene layered ***,the uniformly dispersed MXene nanosheets in the MCC network with interfacial interaction(hydrogen bonding)and mechanical entanglement endowed the nanocomposite films with excellent mechanical properties and ***,the thermal stability,water resistance,and antibacterial properties of the nanocomposite films were effectively improved with the introduction of ***,using DMAc/LiCl as the solvent system not only improves the compatibility between MCC and MXene but also avoids the problem of easy oxidation of MXene in aqueous *** the high stability of the MCC–MXene solution and enhanced properties of the MCC–MXene films,the proposed strategy manifests great potential for fabricating natural biomass-based dielectric materials.

Sorption enhanced catalytic CF4 hydrolysis with a three-stage catalyst-adsorbent reactor

In this study, we developed a three-stage catalyst-adsorbent reactor for the catalytic hydrolysis of CF4. Each stage is composed of a catalyst bed followed by an adsorbent bed using Ca（OH）2 to remove HF. The three stages are connected in series to enhance the hydrolysis of CF4 and eliminate a scrubber to dissolve HF in water at the same time. With a 10 wt-% Ce/AlaO3 catalyst prepared by the incipient wetness method using boehmite and a granular calcium hydroxide as an adsorbent, the CF4 conversion in our proposed reactor was 7%-23% higher than that in a conventional single-bed catalytic reactor in the temperature range of 923-1023 K. In addition, experimental and numerical simulation （Aspen HYSYS） results showed a reasonable trend of increased CF4 conversion with the adsorbent added and these results can be used as a useful design guideline for our newly proposed multistage reactor system.

Classification of hepatobiliary scintigraphy patterns in segmented gallbladder according to anatomical discordance

BACKGROUND Hepatobiliary scintigraphy(HBS)is a useful diagnostic imaging technique that uses radiotracers to evaluate the function of the gallbladder(GB)and biliary *** segmented GB,some HBS images reveal a discordant GB boundary as compared to anatomical *** To evaluate the characteristics of HBS in segmented GB and determine the clinical relevance according to HBS *** A total of 268 patients with chronic cholecystitis,gallstones,or biliary colic symptoms who underwent HBS between 2011 and 2020 were *** GB was defined as segmental luminal narrowing of the GB body on computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance(MR)images,and HBS was examined 1 mo before or after CT or *** GB was classified into 3 types based on the filling and emptying patterns of the proximal and distal segments according to the characteristics of HBS images,and GB ejection fraction(GBEF)was identified:Type 1 was defined as a normal filling and emptying pattern;Type 2 was defined as an emptying defect on the distal segment;and Type 3 was defined as a filling defect in the distal *** Segmented GB accounted for 63 cases(23.5%),including 36 patients(57.1%)with Type 1,18 patients(28.6%)with Type 2,and 9 patients(14.3%)with Type 3 emptying ***,approximately 43%of HBS images showed a discordant pattern as compared to anatomical imaging of segmented *** there were no significant differences in clinical symptoms,rate of cholecystectomy,or pathological findings based on the type,most gallstones occurred in the distal *** GBEF was 62.50%±24.79%for Type 1,75.89%±17.21%for Type 2,and 88.56%±7.20%for Type *** 1 showed no difference in reported GBEF compared to the non-segmented GB group(62.50%±24.79%vs 67.40%±21.78%).In contrast,the reported GBEF was higher in Types 2 and 3 with defective emptying and filling when compared to Type 1(80.11%±15.70%vs 62.57%±24.79%;P=0.001).CONCLUSION In segmented GB,discordance i

Hybrid vs sequential therapy for eradication of Helicobacter pylori in Taiwan: a prospective randomized trial

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of sequential vs hybrid therapy in patients with Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) ***: From March 2013 to May 2014,one hundred and seventy-five H. pylori infected patients who had not been treated for H. pylori before wererandomized to receive either sequential therapy(rabeprazole 20 mg and amoxicillin 1 g twice daily for 5 d,followed by rabeprazole 20 mg,clarithromycin 500 mg and metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for 5 d) or hybrid therapy(rabeprazole 20 mg and amoxicillin 1 g for 7 d,followed by rabeprazole 20 mg,amoxicillin 1 g,clarithromycin 500 mg and metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for 7 d). H. pylori status was confirmed by positive results of both rapid urease test and histology examination or a positive result of culture. Eradication efficacy was assessed by follow-up endoscopy with rapid urease test and histological examination 8 wk after the end of anti-H. pylori therapy,or 13C-urea breath test at least 4 wk after completion of treatment. The primary outcome was H. pylori eradication by intension-to-treat(ITT) and per-protocol(PP) ***: One hundred and sixty-seven patients(83 patients in the sequential group and 84 patients in the hybrid group) completed the study. The compliance rates were 97.6% and 97.7% for the two groups,respectively. The eradication rate was 78.2% for the sequential group and 92% for the hybrid group by ITT analysis(P = 0.01). The eradication rate was 81.9% for the sequential group and 96.4% for the hybrid group by PP analysis(P = 0.01). Univariate analysis for the clinical and bacterial factors did not identify any risk factors associated with treatment failure. Severe adverse events were observed in 2.3% of patients in the sequential group and 2.4% of those in the hybrid ***: Due to a grade A(> 95%) success rate for H. pylori eradication by PP analysis,similar compliance and adverse events,hybrid therapy seems to be an appropriate eradication regimen in Taiwan.
